I had 2 epidurals and one spinal..............the first epidural didnt hurt, when ur in pain u barely notice the pain of the needle....only thing is u feel like electricity go through ur right arm and leg....but u dont feel it really......I had 2 because the first fell out so they had to do it all over again.......once my 2nd wore off (I was in labor 27 hours) they came to put more medicine in and it messed up and went all into my right leg....so i felt everything except my right leg......after that I had to get a C-section due to the baby's heart rate dropping so I got the Spinal...and I didnt even feel that....all u feel is ur whole body get warm and u go numb from ur neck down to ur feet.....hope that helps!

My daughter is 1 year. I had an epidural and it was good. It worked for the first hour or so and then my daughter was pushing against a nerve and I could feel every contraction (but just in one spot on my left side). It was painful to get the epidural but was more relief than anything (for the time it worked). Although it faded out in one spot, I can tell you that it still worked below the waist. I didn't feel anything pushing her out and afterwards was a breeze. I defiantly recommend to get an epidural. I have had no back problems.

My daughter is almost 10 months and I still get a pain in my back where I had mine done. But you know what I would do it all over again!

Oh boy. I had an epidural with my daughter who is now 5 months old, and I am constantly feeling like my back is going to break in two. My mom had an epidural when she had me, and her back is still messed up to this day. When mine was administered, it hurt SO bad. My mom had said hers didn't hurt that bad, it was just a lot of pressure, but they did mine wrong, so I was in tears for mine. The catheter was in way too far, and it kept wearing off. It actually wore off during my emercency c-section, so I felt part of the surgery. So...personally, I don't recommend epidurals. I would maybe go with a local anesthetic.

i went natural with my first, but with my second i took the epidural. it didn't hurt when they gave it to me, but about 4 minutes later my blood pressure dropped to 45/10 and i was unconsious until they flushed it out of my system. ever since i have had horrible back pain. i'm now pregnant with my third child and my doctor said because of the complications i had he refuses to give me a epidural because of the drop in blood pressure. epidurals can really help you or they have severe side effects. it's something you really need to think about and do research on before you decide.

GET AN EPIDURAL!!! I've never heard of anyone having back problems afterward. It doesn't hurt, considering the contractions you will be feeling by the time you get one is WAY worse. I felt a tingling sensation when it went in, but aaaaahhhh the relief. I was in labor for 32 hours before receiving mine, and it was a huge blessing! Having a baby is more painful than most types of surgeries if you were able to not have anesthesia... so why go through pain if you have the option not to? I'll never understand people who don't get pain relief if they have access to it. You aren't "tough" just because you felt the pain... just crazy, and needing to prove something to people. Sorry, I've obviously had people make me feel bad about having pain relief with my first child... and I'm not going to hesitate to get another epidural once my next child comes in October.

I got an epidural with my first baby and it was like Magic! Now im due any day and plan on the same thing as far as back problems none here but that dont mean it cant i dont want to discourage you but everyones diffrent so good luck and if you dont like pain take it lol

I had an epidural and would do it again! I have not had any back problems. As far as the hurting I would rather do the epidural again than have them draw blood from me, it was a breeze!!!

I have had an epidural and the truth is that its the best thing it doesnt hurt when they r doing it u may feel like a lil pinch but nothing really big and i havent had any back problems cause of it and its been 3 months since i had my lil guy. i would have to agree wit tiffany drake it is a good thing to have so u wont hurt him lol

I haven't had any "back problems", but i do feel where the epidural was, that area does hurt sometimes. Other then that, i liked having it, for me it wore off at the very end right before i had to push, so i guess you could say that's not the "best" way to have an epidural.

Ya the only person allowed to give an epidural is the anesthesiologist. No one else should be giving them. I just got totally screwed with the dumb lady that did mine.. 13 times, come on there's no reason for that. I still loved my epidural even though i had those issues.. when I had my 1st son either they stopped the epidural or it wore off.. holy crap! lol.. worst pain ever!! so the epidural makes giving birth a very pleasant experience. If you can be comfortable during and after giving birth I think its better so you can bond with your baby too, I was way to tired after my 1st son to do anything, I just wanted to sleep. lol

oh and btw, it only took one try to get the epidural because they have a specialist some down...the nurse does NOT administer them!

I absolutely loved my epidural. It is like God's gift to childbirth. I dont think i even felt it when they placed it. By that time i was in so much pain anyway but they numb u up good before they give it. I would have done it earlier had i known how totally awsome it was. I dont have any back problems

I had no complications with mine and I had an epidural AND a spinal when I delivered my twin girls...I LOVED it actually hehe :) It really didnt hurt--it was like a pinch when they administer the needle. They give you medication before the actual epidural so that it numbs it. And they let your support person hold your shoulders and support you :)

i had no problems with my epidural. I was having strong contractions so I don't even remember it hurting at all. Then again if soneone would have offered to smash my head in with a frying pan, I probably would have signed off on that too!

i have 3 kids and i have had the epidural all three times, the first two babies was so easy with the epidural, no problems at all afterwards or anything, it was the best thing ever!!! for my 3rd baby (he was born last sept.) i had asked for it after a few hours of labor and so they gave it to me. let me tell you, i am not exaggerating at all on this either, the stupid lady gave me the epidural 13 times no joke!! she couldn't find the right spot, i had no idea she was giving me it so many times. put it this way the nurses had tears in their eyes it was that bad. i had to ask if there was another dr who could do it because she didn't know what she was doing. finally she got it in (after all that freaking pain she put me through) and it finally went in the right spot. it worked great once it was in and i had my son with hardly any pain at all. (i had pressure not pain, which is normal) afterwards the nurses tried to get me to walk, and i couldn't. i could feel my legs a little but i could not walk. it was 8 hrs before i could walk and everyone was freaked out, nurses included. my back hurt so badly after because my back had been poked 13 times and she hit nerves and i don't even know what else, lol. but its been a yr now and i still have back pain where she poked me, i think for me.. it was the best thing to have the epidural, but if i ever get pregnant again i think i would rather go natural than have another epidural. just make sure your anesthesiologist is experienced and knows what they are doing, i have never heard of anyone really having any problems with it, they are awesome!!! but after what that lady did to me i don't ever want another one. don't let me scare you into thinking they are bad, because they aren't, just make sure they know what they are doing.

Why do you think you really want an epidural, the pain may not be that bad, i really think you ought to wait until your actually in labour before u make such a bit desision!!

But its up to you, and i am by no means againt them as i have had 2 due to c-sections.

Mine were amazing didnt feel any pain when it was administered just utter relief from a 37 hour labour.

I have had a slight pain in my back since, just a dull ache where it was injected, prob due to running round after the kids more than anything

Well I have a 17 month old and I have had the Epidural and honestly mine wore off...I felt everything..even the thing they call the Ring of fire..That's the head crowning..If I could do it all over knowing how it feels I wouldn't even bother getting it! But It didn't hurt getting it..they do them during a contraction...I was 6 cm when I got mine...and that was after 3 days of labor I was enduced...hope this helps you. I had an epidural and it didnt hurt cuz I previously had some meds, I was in so much pain that I was just screaming for one. I have no back problems and they had to leave it in till the anesthesiology could take it out and it just felt weird having all the tape on my back after everything. But the weird thing was before the epidural I was only dilated 2cm then once I had it I was fully dilated. So its not as bad as it sounds but you have to keep still or it might not work. Good Luck!

I had one with my son who is now 6 1/2 and it was a blessing from God :) I've never had any back problems or any problems from it. I will be having it again this time. I wouldn't go any other way.

I've had two C sections and had to have them both times, one an epidural and the other a spinal. I haven't had back problems at all.

I have back problems now from epidural!!!!!!!!!! It doesn't hurt that bad the iv hurts more i think

I had an epidural with both of my kids. They didnt hurt bad at all for me, but everyone tolerates pain differently. I will tell you one thing though that I was never warned about; The epidural doesnt always work 100%. Most of the time it does ... but not always. With my second child it barely worked at all and I felt most of the delivery. Also with my first it worked TOO well... I couldnt move the lower half of my body for like 6 hours after I delevered. I have never had any problems since! Im not sure but I think it is pretty rare to have back problems after the epidural. God bless!

i had one with my son but it didnt work they had to poke me 8 times before they even got it and on top of that i got screwed any way cuz it didnt work so went through it for nuttin just feels like a quick pinch. now my back really hasnt been the same after that but i was poked 8 times in the back by it but my sister got it and her back is fine she has no problems.

well when i had my son i got an epidural i didn't feel it cause i had a contraction and honestly i think my contactions were worse than any poke by a neddle lol. my sister had back labor though and the epidural didn't help her

ok honestly, i have had major back problems before i was pregnant every few months i was pulling a muscle. i did get an epidural, this was 8 months ago, when my daughter was born. and i havent had any back problems since. i guess it sort of depends on the person. as for the pain it wasnt bad at all. i used to watch all the baby delivery shows, and i was terrified to get it. but it didnt hurt as much as i thought. as for it working, i didnt feel a thing at all while giving birth, i barely felt any pressure at all. i guess i was a lucky one.

hi i had anepidual wen i had my son it didn't hurt at all actually it ws a God send.lol as 4 back problems i never hav any untill last yr went to the doctors and they told me it cud b due to the epidual and my sons 5 nw but 4 the 1st 4 years no problems wat so ever, but rember every1s different wat works 4 1 may nt wrk 4 sum1 else, but gud luck and congratulations.

Definitely get it.... I had it when I had my son 7 months ago and it helped ease the pain. Did it hurt? I don't remember because they give it to you as you're having a contraction so even if it hurt it was not worse than labor pains :) I don't have any back problems whatsoever.

I had the epidural and when they gave it to me it didn't hurt because they numb your back...i did have some back problems after i was home but not too bad i just got my husband to gently rub the spot where they had put it in and after that i have no problems....it was a big relief to have the epidural

I had an epidural..but i was getting it while i was having a contraction..and i didn't feel A THING! it was suuuch a relief once i got it!!! I haven't had any back problems from that.

Honestly, the epidural did hurt at first when he put it in. I just held onto my hubby's arm when they put in in. Somehow being able to firmly grasp hold of him made it easier to keep my cool. I was so greatful after it was in though. The rest of the time I was able to relax and keep my cool. I kept my stength up and didn't exhaust myself over the contractions. Honestly, I hated getting the IV more than the epidural... Just my opinion... Good luck...

I had one and my other half was more bothered than me by then as i was drugged up on pethadine and i hardly felt a thing just like someone was scratching my bone and im the biggest whimp ever!!!!!!

Hey I've had 2 cesereans and had epidurals for both of them, I am now pregnant with our third and the same has been planned this time. I haven't experienced back pain since so It hasn't affected me at all. I'm hoping that this time will be the same. When I had the epidural I was already getting contractions so I was on gas and air so I didn't really feel it actually going in very much, I just felt a bit of pressure. considering I could still feel the contractions on gas and air but didn't really feel the epidural I think thats a general sign that the epidural isn't as bad as the contractions lol. I would recommend it though, I was so relieved to have it! hope this is of some use x

I had it done three times.. and each time I had it done .. the pain of the epidural was nothing compaired to the pain of contractions..trust me.lol

although the first two times I had it done I never had any problems afterwards but this last time I have some back aches where the epidural was put in.. It only hurts when I move a certin way, its been 5 mos since I had my son and it still bugs me....

I've had one epidural with my 1st and only child. I just gave birth 3 months ago, and my back is fine. You hear horror stories from other woman about the epidural (at least I did!), so I was a little scared. BUT its soo not worth being scared about. They give you the epidural during a contraction, so you don't even feel it. If anything, you feel a little tingeling sensation, it feels kinda cool. And trust me, when those contractions start kicking in, you'll be begging for an epidural. So my best advice to you is, get the epidural and don't sweat it... it's so worth it. It makes labor 10 times easier/painless.

For me I didn't want an epidural. I had my baby natural. No meds at all. I was in labor 7 hours total pushing and everything. I slept through my labor. If you can deal with pain, then you can deal with contractions. Everyone pain isn't the same. I had been hurting for a whole month. But maybe you will be lucky and be dilated at least to 5 when you get to the hospital like me. This was my first child. Of course i was fearous about having to have a c-section.

If you have the chance to get a epidural get one. I went about 6 hours with back to back contractions tryin to be superwoman. Once I got it I was smiling from ear to ear I was at 4 cen than in hour went to 9cen Im so glad I did it. I had my son feb 20 and have not had any back pain from it at all.

my first baby i remember getting the epideral but i dont remember feeling it happen. I was fine after i had my son. second my daughter i was in a lot of pain from contractions and i do remember them doing the epideral matter of fact i pulled away from it. and actually ended up with a spinal headache that lasted 24 days. They say that it can go away on its own with lots of caffine and laying flat. i did that for a week then went back for what is called a blood patch. its like an epideral but instead of med they put your own blood in the space to fill the tare. that is suppose to fix it but it didnt work for me. so i took pain meds for a week or week and half. then it finally went away on mothers day thank you jesus. my bad does bother me more this time but thats bc i had the equivalant of two epiderals. i hate needles but i hate pain more so i had the epiderals. not sure what i will do next time. as long as everything goes fine which it normally does...they i dont think its a big deal. just to add i think that spinal headache happens to every 1 on 100 ...the odds just happen to be against me this time around.the blood patch works either 80 or 90 percent of the time...yets again the odds were agaisnt me. I wouldnt say that i have back problems it just get sore if i carry my baby around to much or if i bend the wrong way. i think its just tender and will go away but my daughter is 5 months so i dont know. I am still not sure if i regret having the epideral. I do regret that i pretty much missed out on the first month of my daughters life bc a spinal headache sux it is like nothing i have ever felt. I truely wanted to die. I was very cranky and moody bc i was in so much pain i just couldnt deal with anything. but like i said this hardly ever happens but you wanted to know about the pain :)

The epidural was a relief and I didn't feel anything afterwards. It was great! I didn't have any complications from the epidural. I was able to walk (with help) and move my legs. I don't have back problems, at least not from the epidural :) I have also been prone to migraines all my life and I was worried I would get one afterwards because it's a possible side effect as well, but luckily I didn't. I think it's all in the timing and how good your anethesiologist is.
