Hey everyone! Just wondering when a baby's eyes start changing colors? My son was born with dark blue eyes & now at 6 months they still seem the same. I have greenish/hazelish eyes & my husband has light brown eyes. :)

I have heard a babies eye color can change all the way up to 2 years old. My son is One and when he was born his eyes were like a dark dark grey marble color, its hard to explain they werent really a specific color. They looked more hazel then anything and my husband has hazel eyes so I thought thats what they would be. Now at one years old they are like a light brown, but sometimes they look a little like hazel, I know hazel can change depending on what your wearing but I dont know cuz his mostly look light brown. My eyes are really dark brown, so i think his eyes are just still changing and so i think he got stuck with my boring brown eyes. But he is still cue as ever. Oh but i hear if your baby is born with brown eyes they usually dont change I think its blue that can change as they grow and hazel type colors. I hope my answer was helpful :)

I researched this after my little one was born and found that the range for your child's eyes to change is from 6months to 2 years and that some people's eyes will change during puberty as well. It's also light dependent so the more sun your child gets the faster their eyes will change.

My son's eye's were blue when he was born but got lighter and went grey like mine after a couple of weeks. I was gutted at 6 months when they started to go brown like his dad's and they've stayed brown, he's now 2 years and 7 months old. I'm hoping my daughter's eye's will stay the same colour as mine but have been told by the health visitor that brown is the most dominant colour so expect she'll change around 6 months too. She'll be 12 weeks on monday.

My son is 3 and his eyes change daily. lol. They were a lot darker blue when he was born but now they are more green I guess sort of an aqua color but almost depends on mood with him. lol.
My daughter is almost 2 and has the same biggest brightest blue eyes I've ever seen... and honestly I hope they don't change. Both hubby and I have blue eyes but his mother and all 4 of his siblings have brown so I think that where my sons sort of greenish came in. My whole side of the family has blue eyes so I think my daughters will stay.
I think our eyes continue to change forever... and I'm not sure what professionals say but I don't think my eyes are as vibrant as they were when I was a kid... that could just be tiredness from having my own kids. lol

I was born with blue/grey eyes that turned brown but then when I was in high school my eyes lightened up to a hazel with green flakes. My son was born with blue/grey and now at 5 1/2 months they look grey but seem to change to a blue or brown depending on what he's wearing. His daddy has blue eyes with flakes of green but my grandmother has grey so maybe they'll stay grey.

My son was born with blue/gray eyes, he was 2 years old before they changes to hazel green and he doesn't have mine or his fathers eye color he his grandmothers eye color. My daughter was born with gray eyes and at about 6 months they changed to brown. So it varies in each child some eyes wont change at all. and just because you and your husband have different color eyes don't always mean your child with have one of you two's eye color. he could wind up have the same eye color as a grandparent or from another relative even could be a late, late relative. I hope this helps Take care!!

My son's eyes started that same dark blue (as do most babies) and at 3 months they started lightening and at 6 months now, they are about the same exact color as his daddys eyes which is a light blue.

That is never for sure that they will change but my daugther born with light blue eyes , 2 weeks after birth they turned dark grey, a month old they were dark green until she turned about 7 months and they become light brown like mines. So You have a big chance that they either will not change or one day you wake up and his eyes will be greenish/hazelish just like yours .

Don't ever believe anyone if they say whatever color the childs eyes are by 6 months or a year is the color they'll be for the rest of their lives! My daughter had gorgeous blue eyes up until she was 14 months old and then they changed to Hazel. She is now 2 1/2 and they are now changing to a honey brown (same color as her fathers).

I have dark brown eyes and my husband's are Green except around his pupils is brown. I think that's hazel? All three of our boys have beautiful bright blue eyes! My 9 month old daughter is following the two toned daddy and has blue w/ light brown almost a gold color. I've never seen her color before. Both of our (my husband and I) dads have blue eyes. Mom's have brown. So this is a very interesting Question. I hope her eyes will stay this color. Blue-ish Gold. Unique!

Hi Sarah,

My first born had blue eyes at birth which remained until around 8months before they started turning a light brown, so about a year before they completely changed. My little girl however was born with deep blue eyes which havent changed at all, she is now two....am still waiting to see how my 6month olds progress, as they are a charcoal at mo. I think they say it can take up to two years in some cases. These are just my experiences and i guess every baby is dif, hope this helps tho. x

I think that by around 9 months or a year old whatever their eye color is at that time is what it should stay - according to my pedeatrician. My daughters were born with blue eyes, and at 14 months old still have the same blue eyes.

[deleted account]

My daughter was born with really dark blue eyes, and now at almost 6 months they are a baby blue colour. My eyes are blue and my husbands are blue/grey.

I was born with blue, then they chanced to green around 2-3 yrs old. and then when I hit puberty they went back to blue. Now they still change...if I am crying they are an aqua colour, if it is cold they have more blue, and if it is really hot they are kind of blue/green. I guess some peoples eyes never change. I also know with me, certain clothes will change the colour, If I wear yellows or whites my eyes look more blue/green but if I wear black or pink or blue, my eyes look really blue.

My daughter is two and hers JUST turned hazel, it seems like the hazel ones take longer to actual stay a color. I have brown eyes and mine changed early and stayed. My husband's are hazel and almost green. Kiersten's eyes were dark blue then they were greyish for about a year, then they started to look more hazel here recently.

I thought my son's eyes would turn brown because his father has dark brown eyes. But he still has my big blues at 2 and a half years. So maybe your baby's eyes won't change.

According to my pediatrician, if the baby's eye color hasn't changed by the time they turn three months old, then chances are they won't change to a different color. Although it is rare, but in some cases they can change after that as well.

According to studies, it can take up to a full year for eye color to fully develop - however, I've seen children whose eyes change even later on in life. For me, I had blue eyes for about 18 months according to my mother then they began to change and now they are a brownish hazel color. My daughter had bright blue eyes as a baby and they are still blue now, but not as bright. she is 2 1/2

they normally stop changing between 6 months and 1 year. they can however change after that. i have 6 children, they all have brown eyes except for 1, and he has blue. my youngest turns 2 in one month and he eyes are still getting lighter even though they are still brown right now. hoping they change to blue.

My son was about 4 month when his eyes started to get lighter and lighter and now they are bright blue, he's almost 6 months now. We had a 50/50 chance too of having blue or brown eyed boys because mine are brown and my husband's are baby blue, but I get it just depends on the genes we carry from our parents. My mom has blue eyes and both his parents had blue eyes so i guess the blue was more dominant in our case, lol.

My baby girl has light grey eyes right now and my oldest had sky blue eyes as a baby until this past year when they are a weird shade of blue and she will be 3. I have heard 3 is when they eyes become there true color.

I dont remember exact dates but caucasion babies are always born with dark blue eyes that start to change the first few weeks. They will continue changing subtly until around a year.

Most babies are born with blue, but that can change. Blue is recessive and is a lack of any pigment. If they are born with brown, thats what they will be. Eye colour can take up to 9-12 months to set, but at 6 months, its usually a good indication of what they will be.

My daughter was born with big black eyes. It was kind of like children of the corn or something. But then they went greyish a few months later. Now they are hazel. Sometimes more blue-green and sometimes more dark brown. Odd though, since I have very blue eyes and my Dh has very light brown, almost yellow eyes. I thought for sure she would have been born with blue eyes.

I had a doctor tell me that all babies eyes will stop changing color by 1 year. I know this isn't true -- my brothers eyes (as well as my own) were blue until we were about 4, when they turned green. And my daughter and his have both done the same thing -- blue eyes turned green right around 4. So I guess they can change until they don't.

My daughters pediatrician says around 10-12 months. I have brown eyes & my husband has hazel eyes but my daughters eyes were bright blue when she was born.Months passed & they changed from blue to grean & even grey. Now shes 12 months old & her eyes are green. When i took her for her 12 month check up her doctor told me that her eyes are going to stay that color. I didnt understand how she would have green eyes but because my mother's side & my husband's mother's side has light eyes the pediatrician said that we both carry the gene & it skipped us & went to our baby girl. Lucky girl, I wish my eyes were green!

At almost 16 months my son's eyes are still changing. I don't think theres a time limit on it, but you should have a pretty good idea of what they're going to like at anywhere from 9-12 months. His eyes went from that dark dark blue to blue/green with brown around the pupil. The only change since about a year has been the brown part changing to a lighter shade, the blue and green have stayed the same.
