Feeling baby kick without being pregnant?!

So, I'm 24 & have a 2 year old son. I'm not pregnant. I do not have any symptoms of pregnancy or any gastrointestinal problems.

In the past few weeks, I have started having a feeling in my stomach like a baby is kicking (like around the mid-way mark when you first start to feel the baby). I have Googled this and everything I find about it says the person feels it only near their belly button. Mine is everywhere, near my ribs, very VERY low in my pelvis, on the left side, on the right side... anywhere you felt your baby kick while pregnant, I feel this.

It's not a "phantom pregnancy" where I "want" to be pregnant so my body thinks I'm pregnant & shows signs.

I've taken several HPT's and all are negative. I'm out of town until the end of July so I can't go to my doctor about it till then.

Anyway, my question is this,,, does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone know what it is?

And I do not think it is gas, because it just started in the past few weeks AND I'm not gassy. I'm just trying to find ideas on what it could be or talk to others who have this problem until I can get to the doctor.

I have the same issue and I know that I am not pregnant without a doubt seeing as how i havent done anything since I found out I was pregnant and he, my son, is now 1 year old. I think its kinda like a muscle memory thing. Im not real sure but I dont think you have anything to worry about.

I was so freaked out the first time I felt this. Now I'm pretty sure it's my stomach moving because it seems to happen most when I'm hungry or after I've eaten.

Yep I had the same and thought I was preg, but I did pee sticks and nothing. I have a condition called PCOS and when I explained this feeling to my Dr, he told me it was cyst on my ovaries rupturing or "popping"... He said it could also be just nerves going off down there .... Nothing to worry about. But i do suggest you go see your doctor ASAP

i havent read much of the responses so im not too sure if someone has posted this but i would suggest an ultrasound because maybe they can tell either that u r or what else would be wrong... since i live in canada im not sure as to what your hospital billing is and whatnot but i think maybe that might help :)

I felt that for the two years after I had my son (until I got prego again and now it's real. lol). Phantom kicks. =)

I had a really good pregnancy with my daughter. She is 3 years old now. I have had these "phantom" pregnancy syptoms as well. I am also not interested in being pregnant at the moment either. I just chalk it up to maybe my body misses being pregnant, and this is its way that it lets me remember it. I never knew what it was like to have labor pains before I had my daughter, and boy do I know now. Occasionally, I get gas pains that remind me of when I was in labor, and I do NOT miss those. You are not the only one who has gone through this. Hope that helps!

I had my last child in feb 2010 and I have felt that too. Did you have a c section with your child? I think that mine is just my nerves getting feeling back or little twitches in my tummy. I think that is my only explanation for it but I do miss that sensation of the kids in your tummy when you talk to them and they kick it is like they are responding hahahah

Did you have a c-section? I did and sometimes I feel a "kicking" feeling but I believe it is just the nerves and muscles finally repairing...

I have the feeling of a babies hand sweeping across my stomach or just movement randomly and I had my daughter four years ago. It is pretty crazy and when I tell people, they just laugh at me. It happens very randomly, but I've never seen a doctor about it, nor have I ever told my ob. Unlike you, I do have serious stomach issues, but even after my 5 1/2 hour stomach surgery two months ago, I still had the feeling of baby movement one random time. So I know it wasn't related to my stomach issues. I guess it's just a trick our bodies play on us to toy with our heads. ;)

I noticed that after my daughter was born that it sometimes felt as thought i could feel "her" move even though she was already born. Beings that you have just recently had a child your stomach muscles are not as tight as before so you can actually feel gas bubbles pop in your stomach and it does actually feel like fetal movement!!! It freaked me out until i learned what was really going on with my body!!!!

i know that it sounds weird but it might just be your insides getting back to normal...I have talked to the dr cause this was happening to me and he told me that this was the cause of the "kicks" but thats just my experience hope you find out what's going on soon!

I miss the feeling of having my now 6 months old son wiggle and kick. Evey now then I have phantom movement. I think mine is just me missing that special little link between us. Its just in my head...lol. Maybe yours is psychological too or maybe not.

I am also 24 with an almost 2 year old daughter (her birthday is next month) and I get the SAME sensations from time to time. They are not associated with gas, or any other gastrointestinal issues. I think it may just be muscle spasms from time to time, or my tummy digesting food because I AM NOT pregnant. I've never really payed much attention to it though, and just assumed that since I am a new mom (with an almost 2 year old) that it is just my body adjusting to getting back to normal. I held on to a lot of my pregnancy weight until my daughter was about 18 months old, and have just recently noticed that my body is getting back to pre-pregnancy ways. It definitely has taken a while for my body to adjust to no longer being pregnant, and I am almost certain that these "baby kick" feelings are somehow associated with that transition.

I am 23-years-old also with a 2-year-old son. I have these feelings also, that feel exactly like his original kicks. Sometimes if I put my hand on my belly I can feel the movement! But I know I am not pregnant absolutely as I am single and have not *ahem* for nearly a year. I put them down to gas moving around in my tummy that feels similar to kicks and because I have been pregnant I remember those feelings and think of them as 'kicks'. I can't possible think it is anything else!

I've had the same kind of sensations but they must be just muscle spasms... i think its from my body going back to normal... i am 100% sure i'm not pregnant tho because you have to have sex to get pregnant, and i haven't since before my son was born...

I feel exactly like I did when I was preganant with my son, but I dont think that 3 preggo tests would be wrong, lol, I thought that I was going crazy until I just read all these posts, it makes me feel better knowing that there are so many other women out there that go through this too!

Hi i have felt this more then once but it is the muscles in my stomach they tend to jump every now and then. I have went to the doctor and this is what he has told me that sometimes the muscles jump in my stomach sometimes and it is nothing to worry about. But you can check with a doctor if you still feel concerned.

I feel this very often, or at least i used to. a month or so ago I felt a kicking feeling in the usual places and my son is also 2. I cannot be pregnant because of my birth control and that is the only peculiar thing that is going on with me. I thought I was the only one who felt this, I don't know what this could be, I do have GI problems and there is a difference in the feel.

This is very strange.... because I have been having this exact issue for almost a year now. At first I thought I was pregnant also. I had taken several home pregnancy tests and went to the doctor and they took a pregnancy test, with both urine and blood. Both were negative. They suggested it may be an ulcer, took some tests and that was that. So I am not entirely sure myself what is going on. I have the kicking feeling and when I tried to explain it to the doctor that it doesn't hurt it feels like fetal movement she looked dumbfounded. So I am not sure what it is, but I am going through similar symptoms! I'm glad I'm not alone on this!

I feel this way too very often!! I never felt it before I was pregnant, I really think it's because we are so sensitive to our internal movements (the baby kickin) when we are preggo. More so than we were before, so after pregnancy things like normal digestive movements and muscle spasms catch our attention a bit more. I worry every time and take a pregnancy test every two months, even though I'm on BC!

It could be abdominal spasms like muscle spasms or you could be pregnant. Urine tests can have false positives so go to your hcp and get a blood test to check out for sure. Most likely it is abdominal spasms I got those when I wasn't pregnant!

I have this problem also..... The way my doc explained it is that it's a combination of muscle spasms and ibs( irritable bowl syndrome..... Where air is in the intestines..... I don't know if this applies to you ..... But I went through tons of testing before it came back with that diagnosis.

My son is 2.5 years old now and I have moments like this also The wierd thing for me was my son was born at 26 weeks so 14 weeks early He was born on a Saturday and the Sunday before he was born was the first time I felt him I got to feel him the next six days and then He must have decided that wasnt enough lol Ill be laying in bed or sitting somewhere (its usually happens when Im not running around so just standing, sitting or laying) and get these lil "kicks" The first time I felt it I was actually in bed just waking up I freaked!! I literally was just waking up and Im still not much of a morning person but I now for sure There is no way I was pregnant so I was so confused it started right around the time my son turned 1 I had an emergency c section and I still have a part of my abdomin that I cant feel anything so Ive decided that its muscle spasms I still have tingles from the Csection Having a csection really has made my abdomin a lot different I litterally cant feel about 5 inchs and then I get this pins and needle sensation and it will hurt really bad My mom told me once you have a kid your body goes to S**T well I think shes right Ive have to have my gallbladder removed I get sinus infections I never ever had one until right around my 1st bday Lol I love my son just not my body now Lol I agree with getting to a docs office ASAP and dont drink or eat or doing anything that could harm a baby until you know for sure. Good Luck

I get these too ... sometimes it actually feels like something is moving around in there (I guess that IS gas?? BUT, I usually don't end up having gas later on, so really weird!) I am also NOT pregnant. I was pretty worried about that, but have been having them for 5-6 months with several normal periods and several negative pregnancy tests. My son is just about three now, so we're at a similar stage after pregnancy. Nice to know I'm not the only one! Probably is just muscle spasms, but sure is odd! I usually get them once I'm in bed relaxing (which oddly enough was when I used to get kicked by my son) ... Anyway, have been to the doctor for PAP and regular check-ups during my symptoms (never thought to bring them up though - not a huge concern for me) and nothing was abnormal. Of course, that's just me. You know your body best, so don't be afraid to talk to a doc.

How strange! I mean, I'll admit that soon after the birth of my baby, I felt phantom kicks, but I chalked it up to my body and mind still expecting to feel it. As for your situation.... I don't even know where to begin. Perhaps you are having some sort of muscle spasms? For what reason? I'd be very interested in what your doctor has to say about it. Very strange. Good luck with all of that though! I'm sure you're okay. :)

My husband laughed at me when I said I felt "kicks". I grabbed his hand and put it over my csection scar and he felt it. HAHA he jerked his hand back like he'd been burnt. He loves kids but our 2nd baby was only 6 months old. I am not pregnant. He kept talking about wanting another one. He stopped for about 3 months.

I get them too, like small muscle spams or twitches that feel like a baby kicking. I have Firbromyalgia so I get lots of little spasms everywhere. I have had 3 kids (2 boys are mine, & a surrogate to a little girl) I had a emergency c-section with her june 05 & had had an appendectomy in April 94 (age 13) the 2 incisions were very close together where I have no feeling in between the two incision on about 2 inches of my lower abs. I figured the spasms are just caused from the muscles or nerves in the area that had been affected during all 3 pregnancy. they could be nothing but if you are actually worried about it and the seem odd it couldn't hurt to have it checked out.

Well, Mandi, is strange to hear such but i may strong suggest u see the Gynaecologist as fast as possible. I once had such and with pregnancy symptoms all together but i did not bother much because it was just for a short while and later everything stopped. But if yours persists, then go for check-up. Hope this will help. Good luck.

Ive actually felt alot of things like that, strange movement in my side, or a bump on my bladder, and when I spoke to my doctor she told me it was the food in my intestines, and gas, even though like you, im not gassy, its just gas bubbles inside you that are causing the movement, and you've probably always had them, but you never noticed them until now, because now you know what it feels like to have a baby kicking you. My Dr told me, that bc ur body now knows how it feels, that anything that is similar in motion will make you think baby movement, just like they tell you when you get pregnant that the feeling of the baby moving, will feel like gas bubbles. Hope this helped a little bit. Even though you might not think its gas.... it really could be, and ur mind is just connecting it to the baby...

I've had these since my twins were born 15 months ago - it's gotta be phantom pregnancy symptoms, I figure, because we've gone through an adoption and IVF with donor sperm, and I'm definitely not pregnant (infertility and negative HPT's help), so that's gotta be it.

After I had my first child I had these same "kick" feelings and it was the weirdst feeling ever, it started when my son was only a few weeks old and kept on going right through until he was 2 years old and I got pregnant again with number two, my second baby is now 7 weeks old and i have not felt them again and I am kind of hoping that they won't come back again this time well not until baby number 3 is on the way. I would still talk to your doctor when you get back home and maybe book in for an ultrasound just to make sure nothing is going on there.

Its normal, I talked to the dr. about it a few yrs, back after having my 2nd and he said it can be nerves or gas. lol I was freaking out for a while too bc I knew I wasn't pregnant, but I've been fine and he claimes it's normal so I wouldn't be too concerned unless you have other symptoms occuring along w/ it. ;)
