My daughter is 5 mths and shes recently become mobile. wants nothing to do with her jumper bouncer nothing, just wants to be on the floor to crawl. My son had a walker but like you i had rugs so he didnt really move in it which was fine for me he just liked the toys on the tray. Walkers can be very dangerous if you have stairs. When i was an infant i fell down the stairs in my walker. I know times have changed since 83 but walkers are still very dangerous. There is however an exersaucer at my daughters daycare and she likes that. THats what i would recommend instead of a walker. HTH.

I used a walker on my son when he turned almost 7 months. I could not find one that worked on carpet. I have all hardwood in my house luckily, I just removed all our area rugs. Hes now crawling and almost walking and he is a little over 9 months old. He really doesn't need a walker any more. I might suggest a jumper, my son used that to and he loved it. Before you know it, your baby will be crawling and have more mobility and you wont need any of that stuff anymore.

If you have stairs don't get a walker. Our son had a 911 accident at a friends house who was watching him for me and they forgot to put the gate up at the top of the stairs. The medics told me they see head injuries all the time from babies and curious toddlers going down stairs in them. I hope I didn't upset you, but I wish I would have know how dangerous it could be before my baby was hurt with one. I would also have to recommend an exersaucer, I used them with all my kids.

I've read that walkers do more harm than good in terms of baby's mobility.  They can actually delay crawling and creeping, which are very important for developing physically and mentally.  I'd check out the concerns before deciding whether or not to buy one at all.

What about an exersaucer? http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?...

It's the same idea as a walker (to help strengthen baby's legs) but it's stationary so you don't have to worry about her running into anything and getting hurt AND it can be used on carpet or hard floors.
