We just got an outbreak of fleas in our home. We have no pets (other than goldfish). I want to bomb, but am concerned about how safe it will be with my 5 month old daughter. But then again, i don't want her covered in bug bites!! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Aren't I an animal? My mom just moved in. She had a bunch of indoor and outdoor animals where she was living before. When she moved furniture/clothing/bedding/rugs/etc in the fleas moved in with her. She has been here for a few weeks and they just seem to be getting worse.

Sorry I just realized you don't have pets. How did you get the outbreak???

If you don't have pets and animals never come into your house, fleas NEED to thrive on animals and cannot survive without them. they would eventually die! Even the eggs would eventually hatch then die,, it may take a while but they will die on their own . As long as there are no animals coming into your house.

i am actually a pet groomer and these days you don't need to use sprays etc. Ask your vet about a product called Advantage, it's a topical solution that you put on your pets once a month,It will get rid of the fleas on your pets and in the house but all pets have to be on it and do it at least for a couple of months! This will definately get rid of ALL the fleas.

We have 2 dogs and had fleas in summer last year when i was pregnant with my son ( i also had a then one year old) We ended up having to bomb the house several times before we got rid of them. We would set them off, go out for a couple of hours and then return and open all the windows and doors and it would be fine within an hour or so. Thankfully they havent returned since, but we did also have to spot treat our rug with a spray that we would put on once my daughter had gone to bed at night Hope this helps and Good Luck!

It doesn't matter if you have pets or not. In our last place, the people who lived there before us had cats and the neighbors had cats and we didn't. Our apartment was infested. We didn't use a bomb since we had gas heat and you're not supposed to use them with open flame...so our landlord didn't want to do that really. But we got a carpet powder for fleas and we carpeted the downstairs living room and our sons room and he slept in our room. Vaccumed the next morning before anyone walked on it. Before we left for the day we powdered our room. We also bought this stuff called Home Defense-used for all sorts of bugs-and we sprayed all the floors that weren't carpeted. Once it was dried it was safe. So we usually sprayed when we were going somewhere and then when we came back it was safe. Then we just mopped. We also sprayed the outside of the house. Good luck because fleas are a pain to get rid of.

if you have carpet and your little one ISN"T crawling around on the floor you can try one part borax mixed with salt. sprinkle on your rug and leave on all night then vacuum in the morning. borax can be toxic to children so only use on carpets that she won't be crawling on for a few months. a great non- toxic method that also works is to get some sort of small light and put it in the middle of the room on the floor, then take a bowl of water with dawn dishsoap in and put that next to the light on the floor. turn off all other lights in the room. do this when you go to bed. the fleas are attracted to the light and and the soap. and in the morning take the bowl and dump it. and i can't stress enough VACUUM, VACUUM VACUUM!!!!! that is the best way to ensure you get all the fleas that were smart enough not to fall into your traps. fleas are a lot like head lice...so you need to vacuum carpets and furniture daily . and wash any bedding in HOT water and dry in the dryer. i had a bad flea problem last summer with my cat. they are all gone now. hope this helps:)

We had an outbreak back in the summer, at the time we had 4 cats. It doesn't make any difference that you don't have animals in the house, we were told by the vet that flea eggs can live years in floorboards and in cracks. We used the bombs, we set them off just before we went out, then when we got back opened a window in that room, then an hour later it was ok to use that room again. We also used spray that killed fleas and their eggs, sprayed everywhere again before we went out, but the living room was done before bed. I hope this has helped you get rid of your unwanted critters.Good luck, let me know how you get on.Kerry.x
