Flu Vaccine?

I don't feel like the flu vaccine is neccessary it really doesn't protect against all strains of the flu. My sister in law and I were pregnant at the same time this last winter. I never got the flu vaccine and never got sick my entire pregnancy or after. My sister in law got the flu vaccine and she got the flu while pregnant and again right after the baby was born. Her son also got the vaccine and also got the flu.

We haven't done flu shots in 4 years with our children, and I don't ever recall getting one growing up. I wouldn't even if I was pregnant. I'm more concerned with eating a healthy diet and boosting our immune systems.

The shot for swine flu will be available in a few months but you should get the regular flu shots out of the way because if you get the regular flu it is a lot easier to catch the swine flu. My step daughter gets sick so easy and whatever she has is shared with me and my husband. For the first time in my life I am planning on getting the flu shots.
7% of swine flu fatalities are of pregnant moms.

the regular vaccine wont help for the swince flu, so if thats the reason theres no point.



Weve never bothered with the flu vaccine.



My eldest son cant even have certain vaccines anyways since he has an egg allergy. most dangers with the flu arent even from the flu but secondary issues that come up. I think the best way would be to strengthen the immune system to aid the body in fighting off any infections and any secondary as well.



Im pregnant and am not even going to consider taking the vaccine. Though I make sure to have certain vitamins and minerals to help my immune system and I keep healthy.



One thing to be careful of is what is added to the vaccines, you may want to look up thimerosal and adjuvants. The vaccine for the swine flu will probably be more than one shot as well so even trace amounts of these things add up.

you should really consider getting both flu shots, along with your daughter. The flu has a high mortality rate for pregnant women. We have never seen this type of swine flu before so we have no immunity to it. It is recommended by the CDC that all pregnant women get it. Your daughter should get it as well so that she does not expose you or the baby, once it is here, to the flu. Your daughter is old enough for the nasal mist if she doesn't like shots. Not sure if they will have the H1N1 in a nasal mist or not. But for the regular vaccine it is great.

Because your immune system is suppressed (so is not to reject the baby), it's much easier to get things like the flu. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and I'm getting a vaccine. It's just because I do tend to get sick during flu season and don't want to risk my baby's life. But the decision is completely your own. You have to weigh the risks and benefits of getting the vaccine or not. Talk to your doctor. They know what is going on and can help inform you of both risks and benefits for you and your daughter.

Small children and pregnant women are in the high risk category for the swine flu this year. If I were you, I'd talk to you doctor about it. From what I understand, the H1N1 vaccine will not be available until December, so you'll be further along in your pregnancy then and may want to consider it not only as a pregnant woman, but as the caretake for a small child as well. I think people don't think of the flu as being particularly dangerous, but with this thing making it's way around the globe for the second or third time, it can grow into being something particularly damaging. The Spanish flu pandemic in 1918-19 was more deadly in it's second wave than in the first, and it was a subtype of the H1N1 virus that is causing this flu now...that scares the crap out of me! It's something I think you really need to consider. I, personally, will be getting one for my daugher. Here's a link to some more info about it:

Just remember, the regular flu shot will not have H1N1 in it, so it'll have to be a separate vaccination...just inform yourself and do what you think is best, that's about all you can do!
