I am using enfamil lipil to feed my daughter. when at the hospital they told me that it was only good for one hour after it was opened..(they were giving us the pre-mixed stuff) But now i am using the powder and was wondering if it keeps longer than one hour. Do you really have to throw it out after one hour? it seems like such a waste.

they say the bottle is no longer good after an hour because of the bacteria in our mouths. so after baby rinks from the bottle they're saliva is on it and the bacteria could grow and make baby sick.

Deena-Ya I forgot about putting in warm water. I was thinking of the microwave. Thanks for clearing that up.

AnneMarie was correct, the reason you need to toss it after one hour if the baby's drank from it is because of the bacteria.

ya after you have warmed the bottle for her, you have to use it within an hour. It goes bad pretty fast for some reason. I have smelled the left overs in a bottle past an hour, doesn't smell very good at all.

If it is kept out of the fridge it goes sour within 1 hour (sometimes sooner) but if you keep it in the fridge it lasts 24.

It's because the bacteria in the saliva grow rapidly in the formula and after an hour there are too many and could cause stomach upset.

It should tell you right on the can? If my memory serves me correctly, it should be good up to 24 hours if kept refrigerated! Once you've heated and used I wouldn't keep it much more than an hour...

I heat my sons up.. I put water in a measuring cup, heat that up and put the bottle in it.. I give it a few minutes check it and if its WARM I give it to him.. Always check the formula inside to make sure its not extremly hot before giving it.

One thing about refrigerating formula is that the container says you're not supposed to heat up the formula because it can heat unevenly and burn your baby. I haven't done that before and I don't know how often that really happens, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

You only have to throw it out if she has already drank from the bottle because they say the formula is contaminated. I always mix about 25 oz in a container and keep it refrigerated and pour the amount i need throughout the day. My son eats 5oz every 3 hrs so that last me about 12hrs.

Totally normal.. My little man would sometimes drink 4 oz and be satisfied and other times he wanted more. So I would have to hurry and go mix another 2 oz bottle.. You can pre-mix formula for the day and refridgerate it up to 24 hours! I don't know the EXACT reason on why the bottle is no longer good after an hour.. but they word it almost like it's contaminated. I think it has something to do with them drinking and there saliva goes back into it and what not. Ruins the nutrients in it possibly.

She is only a month old and most of the time she takes four but when that doesn't satisfy her i make her another two ouces. is that normal? If i pre mix it do i need to put it in the refridgerator to keep it good? Why does it have to be used within an hour after she drinks out of the bottle? This is my first child i had her a month ago so im kinda not sure what im supposed to be doing hope that don't make me sound bad

you can make a bottle and keep for 24 hours.. but once she drinks out of the bottle you have to use w/in an hour. How many ounces does she normally drink? Just mix a bottle for that amount she drinks :) hope this helps!
