it starts from the begining. He's still really young so he's nmot going to be placing his napkin on his lap and chewing with his mouth closed but you can start by making sure he knows throwing food or playing with food is not acceptable and encouraging him when he does things so nicely. As he gets older you just encourage more manners. My oldest is 6 and we are now teaching him to elbows on the table and only using utensils not fingers and even helping clear the table at times.

Your baby is learning from you all the time...you can offer baby utensils anytime in the high chair...babies eat with fingers and when offered by you at this age...good manners, means what to you? babies throw food, spit food, etc and this is all normal and shouldn't be chastised...just don't laugh when they spit as it will encourage more and not be their fault...make a big deal out of what they do that you approve of and want to see more of and ignore more what you don't like...if your baby is learning words you can use please and thank you and teach but don't expect it...your child will learn what you model ...all the best

Table manners are a bit hard with a child. Using a spoon or fork usually doesn't come around till 18 months. I would start introducing "Please" and "Thank you" We have been using it but my son still doesn't say and I don't expect him to since he is only 18 months and hasn't started to talk yet.

My son is almost a year and he (sometimes) says "please" before he gets food. He says "eeeeeasssseeee".

If you start early, he'll catch on. Obviously, if he's only 10 months old he isn't going to get it right away. The best thing you can do right now is practice good manners yourself, in front of him, so that he can see you do it. My son is 19 months old and when I get him milk or juice he always says "Tan oo"-- which means Thank you, lol. And if I ask him if he wants something, he says "Yeh pee"--which is Yes please. When he was younger, anytime I handed him something I would say "Say thank you mommy" and stuff like that. As far as burping and stuff, he's 10 months old....don't expect him to know how to control that stuff yet. If he's yelling or banging things on the table, give him something that will distract him. If we go out to eat, we always bring a small toy, or usually a book, with us so that he has something to do. We get compliments all of the time on how great he is.
