My son is 4 almost 5 months and I use a little bit of Gerber apple juice in his cereal from time to time because he gets constipated.

I started giving my daughter juice when she was about 3 1/2 months. It was mostly water, but she would get really constipated because she's on iron supplements. I use Gerber apple and pear. Pear is the easiest on their little tummies, but apple will make them go potty sooner. If really desperate for a potty use prune juice. Make sure you use distilled water too!

Your baby doesn't need juice. If you REALLY want to give juice then that's up to you. But my son is a year and has still never had a drop. Check out this thread I just made...

I discuss juice briefly in it.

Current recommendations by ALL leading medical authorities state that babies should have nothing but breastmilk (or if absolutely necessary, artificial baby milk) until 6 months of age. But babies do NOT need juice at all. It's much better to give 2 oz of fruit than 2 oz of juice, because the fruit has more nutrients, fiber, and less sugar per ounce than the juice does. For thirst, breastfeed or give water.

If you feel you must give juice for some reason, choose organic 100% juice with no added sugar. Apple and pear are mild and easily digested. Give no more than 1-2 oz per day and dilute 1:1 with purified water. For a baby under 6 months, if you go against medical recommendations and give water, it must be boiled.

Just because doctors differ in their advice doesn't mean that all recommendations are equal. Many doctors do not read and research to remain up-to-date on the latest information.

there is nothing wrong with apple juice as long as the child isnt sick. I have been to many doctors, pediatritoins and specialist becauce my some has many allergies and I always ask this and they all say the same thing. Apple is good unless they are sick. It increases diareah which leads to dehidration!

I def. think water is a good start, and apple juice has less sugar than pear juice (not by much though) but its not gonna hurt your baby to have juice =) just dont over do it everyday, I gave my daughter some @ 4 months she would drink 2oz juice 2oz water she loves her juice we are going to start the cup soon she is 6 months, we'll see =)

It's ok, but the parents choice. We give our son juice when he's sick and can't have milk. We choose not to give him much any other time as we want him to like watter and his Pedi told us that if we don't give him juice now he'll grow to like watter and also make healthy choices. There's also a lot of suger in most juice that our son doesn't need.

We also don't drink much juice so it's just easier for us not go give our son any.

I think at least by 6 months. I started with both my kids quite early. Delute the juise with water starting like 90% water and 10% juice and raising it each week or so. I always give my kids minute maid and sunrype. Use juices that say made with real juice, doont use the beverage juices because they have no real juice in them. Also try not to give apple juice if the child is sick with diarea. It makes it worse. It can also cause diarea if the child has the flu.

juice has a higher sugar level than coke cola it is ok but needs to be watered down about 25% juice and 75% water. it came lead to gum disease and rotten teeth if given too often good luck

our dr advised us to give our baby juice when he was about 4ish months, that was because he was constipated but they said as long as you mix a little water with it they should be fine! weve used apple prune juice for constipation and gerber apple juice works good as well! every dr is different on their advice but i think as a mom you really gotta do it yourself and see whats best! :)
