Has anyone skipped baby food and gone straight to table food?

My daughter who is 7 months old, does not eat baby food. We have tried it and she just doesn't like it. When ever we eat she is really interested in what we are eating. She will try to grab our fork/spoon and screams if we wouldn't give her any. She opens her mouth when ever we are eating. I would like to try some soft table food, but am not sure if she will be able to handle chewing it. Anyone else skip baby food and have any sucess with table food at this age?

ours will straight up grab food from you. when i was giving her a bottle i was trying to drink a milkshake and she tried grabbing that, shes grabbed my pizza, shes grabbed pop tarts, she tries stealing drinks, whatever you have she wants. but she found out potatoe salad was gross lol. like kimberly said, as long as its swallowable its ok. they told us when they start showing interest in food you eat it usually mean they are ready to try some. just watch and make sure they dont get sick and if not its all good.

My daughter did not eat baby food. I would just give her soft stuff....mashed potatoes or mash up green beans (sounds nasty), mashed up carrots. Just soft foods at first.

None of my kids ate baby food..they couldnt stand it. So they went to table food when they started eating solids. If you're worried about the chewing, you can also buy a mini food processor :). That's what we did..whatever we were having they would have it just in a different form and they loved it. when they started getting teeth and were able to chew we stopped processing it and just cut it into tiny pieces they could handle safely. Now they're 1,2 and 4 and they eat everything. I still cut up the little ones food bc he has a bad habit of just shoving everything in his mouth at once, but he loves it :)

Mom daughter never liked baby food either. I just mashed up what we were eating now she eats every thing and is healthy. I don't blame her for not liking baby food it is gross.

Thanks girls. She is still nursing, but I am going to try to give her some mashed up bananas this morning. My son had no problem with baby food, so I was a little suprised she wouldn't take it. Sheree you are right...I tried some to show her it was ok to eat and it tasted horrible! Again thanks for all the advice, much appericated!

i agree with katherine, i was always told by my plunket nurse/health visitors you dont have to give them baby food in a jar . any veg boiled till soft and pureed or mashed is fine the same with most fruit just make sure the type of food is age appropriate and you will be fine. i would give my little boy farex baby cereal for breakfast and puree my own apples or peach or banana for his lunch and boil up veg till it was nice and soft for his tea and let him feed himself, the veg was so soft it would turn to mush in his hands and he had a great time getting messy and learned about the taste and texture of different foods :) hope this helps

Also make sure that you keep giving her formula as well untill she is 1. She will still need the nutrition from the formula.

At 7 months there's no prob with starting table food. My son started table food at 6 months. Just make sure that you stick with foods that don't take much chewing untill she gets used to it, and don't introduce to many foods at once. You want to introduce only a food or two at a time, so if she has a reaction to anything you know exactly what caused it, also her tummy will need time to adjust to the new food. Start with things like mashed potatoes, and apple sauce, things that aren't going to require a lot of chewing. And to get her used to chewing I would also get some of the baby crackers that can disolve, when you know she is capable of chewing some you can start broadening the range of foods.

Are you talking about baby food being the jar stuff? If yes then I completely skipped it. I think it tastes vile and i wouldnt eat it so i certainly wasnt going to feed it to my daughter, she never ate a single jar of baby food. I started her on fruit and vegetables and mashed them with a fork, or put them on her child spoon and she feeds herself. Within a month she was feeding herself everything and eating everything we ate, including meats.

I never fed my daughter baby food. I just made chopped up regular food really small or put it in the food processor. She liked that a lot. She in not a picky eater at all now. She is 15 months old and eats everything you give her. I never add any salt or seasonings to her food. My docotor told me they start chewing at 9 months so everything before that needs to be swallowable sizes. I really think it helped her not to be so picky.

they say that a baby can skip the baby food. if they are interested in table food as long as they can swallow it and its liquidy and they dont get sick its ok. ours is 5 months and we give her table food like mashed potatoes and stuff she can swallow sometimes. but we just now got her to eat baby food as well. so now she eats that if im eating something she can have i will sometimes share with her

My daughter is the same age as yours and she doensn't want baby food either or cereals. She loves real food. I feed her bananas, potatoes, mashed pasta, pretty much anything we are having just mashed. (Except of course the dangerous allergy things Eggs, nuts, etc) Though she has eaten bits of toast and things. She won't touch baby cereal but she eats cream of wheat. Another thing I found she likes is Toddler food. By baby food but with tiny pasta and meatballs. She doesn'tmind that. Good Luck to you!

You can look up Baby Led Weaning. It's actually skipping purees and going straight to solids. You just have to be careful what spices and salts -- none preferably. I am planning on doing it, but don't have experience with it yet. I have heard that babies who are introduced to foods this way are much better eaters.

My youngest never even went to baby food. Just finely chopped everything we had on our plates for her. If your daughter is 7 months old she will do just fine with regular food just start with easy things and watch for food allergies. Also you should encourage her to try to feed herself give her her own spoon.

My daughter had baby food. But her first food besides formula was regular table food mashed carrots, mashed potatoes, small bites of a pickle. She already had 4 teeth and wanted what we had.
