i had Mirena inserted about 6 weeks after having my daughter in 2007. I've had no issues with the mirena its self but my OBGYN said that because it stopped me from getting my period it was the reason i started having ovarian cysts. which are very painful, but i dont get them often.

I'm Using It Now. I've Had It For About 2 years And I LOVE IT! I Had No Problems With Putting It In.. Some People Get Dizzy Or Its Uncomfortable At First But it all depends on your body. I Highly Recommended To All My Friends And They Love It As Well

I used it. It was really painful day one, especially the first few hours and having it put in. It was great for a few weeks, then I felt the wires scratching me. I set an appointment to get them cut, but before I get it done I got horrible cramping and extreme pain, and the wires sliced straight through my skin and were sticking out of my flesh. The doctor told me it was completely natural...I would like to disagree. The pain immediately ceased when it came out. I would do it again, but only if I found a gyno that I felt was more qualified.

SO, I got one 6 weeks postpartum and loved it! However, a month later as the hormones kicked in I LOST half my breast milk! It as terribly scary and I had to take it out. Within 2 weeks I was back to normal. They said it doesn't effect breast milk but I was one of the few it did, so just beware.

I have had it a little longer than 2 years now. The first 6 months I got really bad cramps. But now I forget I even have it.

i had one and hated it, it gives u nothing but pain and mucks up ur periods too it dosent hurt having it in or out but i must admit they are good for not getting you pregnant, i had mine out last july and have been trying for a baby since and have got no where which i think has somthing to do with the coil too, but some people like it and some dont me personally i will not be getting another one in the near future again,

I also had one, it was uncomfortable to put in, easy yes but it was uncomfortable. I had constant cramps and spotting for the 4 months I had it in, and I was instructed on how to remove it myself. My partner could feel it during sex, but I believe that was because the 'string' was left too long. My sister also had one and after a aoupe years she had hers removed too, her constant spotting was annoying her and she was having trouble with rashes from wearing pantyliners all the time :) I know it works for so many though so if you wish to try it, give it ago but be warned there is a minimal risk of rupturing the uterus when it is inserted if it isnt inserted correctly. Your doctor will discuss this with you when you talk to him about it.

I had one in and like most everyone who has replied to you, I also had the pain of it being put in, but I think my pain was because I have a weird cervix and the doctor had trouble finding the opening to my cervix, but that's beside the point. It has been wonderful having it in, i had no problems whatsoever, my periods have been very light and then that's even if I got a period, which was very rarely. My husband couldn't feel it either during sex. They last for 5 years and the best part is it is a same day procedure and you don't have to have an operation to have it put in. Also you can have it removed whenever you want it out, like myself. I have had mine removed recently as my husband and I have decided to expand our family of 5, and that was just a matter of making a doctors appointment and he removed it right there in his surgery. I really hope this information helps and good luck with what you decide.

I had one and would not suggest it to anyone!!!! It hurts to get it in, I bleed a lot when they put it in and for a few weeks after. I had crapms for a long time and then it twisted making the crampning even worse! And to get it out all they did was yank on the strings attached untill it came out. So I would pass on that one and try something else. Just save yourself the pain!

i have the paraguard iud its alot like it the only difference is, is that it has no hormones in it i went with this one because my body does not do well with anybirth control that has any amount of hormone in it. It seems the only side effect is that if you cramped before it can make the cramps worse.before i had my first child my cramps were unbearable after i had her they went away so i was a little worried that they would come back although they have come back they are barely noticable i don't even have to take tylenol or anything anymore .

I have not had any complications with it as of yet and i've had it for about a year now! Good luck with ur decision hope I helped if u have more questions for me just message me!

The Mirena IUD is wonderful...it takes away the stress of birth control, allowing you to enjoy your love life. It also lightens and adventually stops you period. I've had mine for two years...no complaints...I've had a couple of cyst, but I use to get them before I got the IUD. I would definately use it if you you know for sure that you do not want any more kids in the next 5 yrs. good luck.

I have had the Mirena IUD for almost 5 years mine comes out in May. I think it works great. after so long it will slow your period down then later on you wont have one at all like i said had mine for almost 5 years an i havent had anymore babies yet. if you decide you want another baby before 5 years are up you can get it taken out . It works great cant say enough about it

Yes, i'm currently using one now.. I've got 2 children. wanted my tubes tied after 2nd child but doc didn't recommend it b/c of my age and said this is a very effective BC. I spotted a lil after it was inserted which took about 20 minutes total. I think there's two kinds ? one with hormones and one with out... B4 i got the IUD my cycles were way wierd like once every 4 months..wierd i know.. so my OBGYN advised that i use the one with a low hormone and said that a lot of ppl stop having cycles. i asked if that was healthy b/c it sounded wierd.. she told me that if your uterus ISN"T thicking ( so it can shed) then it's safe to not have a cycle.... So i've got mine for 5 years.. I LOVE it. ..it's percentage of affectiveness is as good as having your tubes tied..... hope this helped.... GOOD LUCK!!

I had my first one put in on 2004, I had no problems whatsoever, so when it needed to be replaced after the 5 yrs I was fine. after a couple of months (about4) it came out, (my uterus felt it was a foreign object and ejected it, and since I got the first one put in at 6 wks after giving birth my uterus was not it's normal shape yet so it did not eject it), I have another one in again and am thinking of taking it out to get tubal ligation, I just don't wanna deal with the periods. I wouldn't even know what to buy anymore!

I had the mirena and I hated it. Had it for almost 3 years it made my life hell. My husband and I almost split up more then once cause I was always so moody. It took my period away most months but once in a while I'd spot for 2-3 days and be done! I always had pain in my abdomine and this real heavy feeling! I have had it out now for 4 months and it has been nice to be back to my normal self. My husband and I have gotten along alot better! It isn't for everyone but for those of you that it does work for I'm glad!

I had mine put in yesterday. Very uncomfortable for the first few hours. I bled quite a bit but its tapered off now. Cant feel it and haven't had a chance to test it out. My sister had one after her first child and had to have it removed because it became embedded. I say try it. If you don't like it or have problems call the doc. Many women experience different symptoms. Don't trust that because 1 women experienced a problem, you will have the same. Every woman is different just like every baby is different.

I have had the Mirena for going on two years now. I tried other kinds of birth control like the pill, and patch, but didnt seem to be has effective like the mirena is in my opinion. I would recommend looking at the mirena website. I dont have a problem with it. It was a little uncomfortable putting it in, but since then I havent had any problems.

Its not good at all! Its evil. Your husband will feel it, and I kept bleeding for a year in a half....non stop! my doc kept saying it was normal, that I will stop in a few months.HA! a whole damn YEAR AND A HALF! Then when we finally moved, I got a new doc and sure enough, that was the source of EVERYTHING!!!!!
the bleeding, the pain, the odor, the weight gain, the mood swings.. I honestly don't recommend it to anyone. plus if you smoke, or anyone around u smokes, you are at a higher risk of getting a stroke.
And, my friend had it inserted a few months after I did, and guess what, she got pregnant... hmm, imagine that.

Some people love it that I have talked to that have it, so I got it when I went in for my 6 week check-up..It was painful to get and then I bled for 6 weeks after that to. My period was very eratic after that..I would have it for weeks on end and then not have it for two months..I have taken so many pregnancy tests because I'm unsure. Plus my fiance can feel it during sex, which my dr. has told me that it's impossible...I'm not happy with it, but it is getting better with lighter periods almost a year later.

I have had mine for almost four years. I had some light bleeding for the first few months and now have no periods at all. I love it a lot. It does not interfere with anything at all. However, my sister got hers about three years ago and is still bleeding a LOT from it. She has suffer cramps and her monthly cycle is all screwed up. So it is not for everyone and everyone can have many different results.

I don't believe it's for everyone though. So far I really like the benefits.

Hey Maria,

I am 26 and I had my son at 21. I received the IUD and it works great! I still get a regular period and I don't have to worry about taking a pill or using a condom. This is my 5th and final year with it. I have to get it removed in July and I am debting about what contraceptive to use. I really wanna get another one but my husband and I are planning to have other kids soon. I say try it see if it works for you and if it doesn't you can get it taken out as quickly as you got it put in.

Just had to go to the er about three days ago because it was falling out. Sad thing is the hospital refused to remove it because a student checked it and said he didnt see it coming out. So now I have a hospital bill for nothing and paid 125 to get it removed two days later. Just not worth it.
