It depends. You can't think your child is going to teach themselves. You have to be consistant with it. Reading to him everyday, helps develope a child motor and communication skills. I read to my daughter and say words to her everyday. Regardless, saying 10,000 words to your child a day will help them verbally. You can find baby books that help kids speak at Ross for less or Barnes and Nobles...waaay cheaper too! Don't waste your time and money, especially if you are not as consistant as the program requires.

received the free trial last week.. there are so many dvd's and books that i don't think my 2 yr old will sit through it day by day as they recommend. i put in the first dvd and he looked away in 5 min. i guess if you play it religiously everyday like it was school, your kid will learn. but i returned it.. i don't think my child needs pressure to learn at his age. i'm confident he'll learn naturally.

I absolutely agree!  I think that people forget that some of the smartest people in this world didn't have things like this program.  I will admit that the commercials make it look interesting but really your kids will learn to read when they are ready to read.  The problem is parents and their "me time"... They want too much of it.  Yes, it's healthy for a parent to take a LITTLE time for themselves but it is also a part of being a parent.  You sacrifice the time that you have for yourself alone... instead you spend the time doing things to aid in the growth of your child.  Like reading to them. IMO.

I bought it when it was 14.99 so i dnt knw how much it is nowbut it really works!! You just have to show your kids the video every day and they say it works better if you show it 2 times a day and i think the sooner you get it the better. my son is 18 months and he already says alot of little words and he loves the books every day i read the books at leats 10 times to him and he was doing the movement 1st like arms up and nose and eyes but i say its worth the investment but only if you are going to do it everyday,

I would just stick to reading to your child and using flash cards. I dont think learning from the TV is as effective as human to human interaction. Plus it makes it more fun for your child to spend time with you instead of the TV.

I think it depends on the child, but it couldn't hurt to give it a try at least. Try finding it on the internet through ebay, cheapcycle or even freecycle first. I purchased the set with high hopes and have noticed that my daughter has learned a few things from the videos from understanding vocabulary to choreography of the songs they incorporate to keep their interest. I started the videos when she was four months old and have made them part of our daily routine since. She is now just over a year and still enjoys watching them and reading the books. She is still a little too young for the flash cards, however, but we'll be working on those soon! Because there is at least a month of viewing time with each volume I have started cycling the volume sets through our relatives so that we can all try the program with our kids without having to all spend that couple hundred dollars on a chance. All in all, I would much rather her watch these dvds than something like "SpongeBob" even if they don't work.

I know a woman that does it with her son and he is learning alot. I would love to get it for my son. If you are serious about selling it send me a message. If the price is right I would love to buy it from you.

I was going to get it until I asked my Mum to check it out I trust her judgement and shes quite knowledgable She found somewhere that it can cause autism Your baby starts to learn so much and its gets used to filling there mind with so much information that there brain is constantly seeking information to fill the void I may not have explained it to well But it sounded like it was possible to me I was not about to take that chance with my son

I know that this is trying to be helpful, but I think it is important to note that Autism is not something that can be caused by any DVD.  It is a spectrum disorder that can be congenital (during birth) or aquired by way of infection or certain serious illnesses.  It is not possible to get Autism by learning at a quickened pace.  The worst that could happen is that your child will become a "know it all" and will get beaten up on the playground.   Then they will make millions of dollars working for Google after graduating early.

On the other hand, there is ABSOLUTELY NO SCIENTIFIC PROOF that ANY DVD or video or CD or whatever can make your kid smarter.  Even the "Mozart Effect" was only measured in adults and disappeared after 10-15 minutes.

This isn't to say these products are *bad* for you, though.  If it soothes the baby (or the parent for that matter) it is worth the money.  It will not cause any harm.

If you can handle the language, check out Penn & Teller's Bullshit, season 1 episode 5. It talks about how because we want the best for our children, people can easily sell us stuff that may not work at all. This was one of the products they specifically named as being bullshit. Take everything with a grain of salt, though. Something that may not work for *most* children, could work for yours. And it certainly won't do any damage.

I tought my son myself! My son is going to be 4 and does it all and I taught him! Why put your kids infront of the tv when you can just teach them and teach them to sound it out! I think learning from a parent and other kids is the best way until they are school aged.

I know two people who have used it, and one of them has a 10.5 old son-just a month older than mine. He is saying words, and if you ask him to point out a word, he can do it. As soon as I saw the program, I wanted to try it out, but it's just too expensive! I still believe in "Parents as Teachers" but if this is a way for your child to be more interested, use it! My 9.5 month old son LOVES Little Einstens. It's the only time he will sit still! We watch it together, and I sing the songs and to all the "pat clap's" with him. I don't just use it as a babysitter...

I believe in "Your Baby Can Read" 100% my son has been watching the series at least once a day since 4 months old. I just put him in his swing and turn it on when I needed some "me time" and it's great. Like a babysitter and I know he's learning. He can identify over 65 words on there now at 14 months. If you follow the instructions on there and consistant I think it can benefit any child. Also my son watched little to no other TV besides this.

I read to him a little each day before bed and I can tell he has a genuine interest in books. Don't get me wrong I don't think anyone should leave it up to tv to teach their child. But it was very convenient for a full time plus working mother ilike me with not enough time as I'd like to sit there and work with him with the flash cards and all that myself. The United States is far behind some other countries in school ciriculum I heard because they start teaching their children at a younger age.

Its just another tool parents can use to treat there kids like show ponies... our brains develop they way they do for a reason we learn to read when we do for a reason.. dont push stuff like this on your child, when it comes to the humna brain you never know whats good or whats bad. You dont have to make your kid smarter than the average baby either, even if they are people rarely care.. do it the old fashioned way, letters abcs and read with them as they grow and youll inspire them to love reading. There never too young to listen to the abc song or to have someone read them a book.

I think it's a scam. If you are that worried about your child reading early then make flash cards with the words and the picture. You can print pics from the internet. Buy the first year book and sit and read with your child. Why put them in front of a T.V. and waste money on something that can be done cheap by yourself?

Honestly, if your child isn't talking, I'd get him in to see a speak therapists instead of buying a DVD. I think it's incredibly sad that so many parents are buying into this rediculous product. Let your kids be kids. Let them go outside and get dirty developing their minds through play and imagination. Too many people are worried about bragging rights instead of just letting kids be kids in the short span of time that they are allowed to be....

I LUV IT!!!!! My son is almost 10mo & we've been using it since he was about 5mo. You can defiantly tell the difference between him and other children that has not had the "MY BABY CAN READ". It has really taught him to Luv books & to read He gets so excited to do the flash cards. He knows which way hold the book & to read the word from left to rite!!!!! He' s not fully talking yet but he makes the sounds of the words!! I absolutely recommend it 150%...( Are u teaching ur child 2 languages if so it typically takes bi-lingual children longer to start talking not because anything’s wrong but they have to decipher for them selves the difference between the 2 languages)

My daughter has the "Your Baby Can Read" program- her grandmother gave it to her. She loves it. She watches the DVDs and has some other books that she likes to "read". You definitely have to be persistent with it. And it's not for every child. If your child doesn't like TV or like to sit still, then you may want to try some alternative methods. My daughter just turned 2 on Nov 8th but she's always been a very focused child. She pays attention to EVERYTHING, so for her, it's beneficial. Her grandmom had originally brought it for her youngest son 4, but he doesn't like to sit still! Reading to your children is always best- plus it's an incredible bonding opportunity.

I have it and have been using the product since my daughter was 6 months old (that's when they suggest you introduce it) and I love it. My daughter reads and really likes the dvd's, books and flash cards. She has picked up a ton of info, reading and recognizing the alphabet and such, but you have to be consistent and work with them all the time, it's not something they can watch by themselves and just know. Plus you can't have them watch too much tv when they are watching this because the tv is more entertaining. Good luck.

It is a CON !

In fact they cannot legally say it is an educational tool anymore and are now offerring cash refunds on all DVD's sold to people under the guise of it being an educational tool .

Just read to your children daily , stop trying to enforce early learning as a teacher the most important early learning a child can do is play in fact play is vital to early learning please do not rob your children of this by forcing extra " work " on them when it really isnt needed , as long as reading is a part of your daily lives your children will benifit at ther own pace like they are supposed to.

I cant believe no one has heard they were almost sued for millions before they offered the cash back on their scam .

I agree with Iysha to some level, but I think that if a parent uses the product and is still interacting with them and helping them to read and everything, that it would work a lot better than if they were just watching the tv portion of it... my niece has it (she is 2 1/2) and she has watched it a couple times, but other than that she doesn't really like it... my brother and sis-in-law read to her all the time, and she always asks people to read to her and she actually can read a few words, but i don't think it has much to do with the program... i think that it costs way too much money, but it could possibly work in conjunction with the parents portion of it too!!!

I think it is a sham that preys on parents' insecurities about their children not learning to read before the "other kids." I know of one parent who said her daughter can read the words on the screen and with the songs, but other than that, she can't read worth shit. I blame the parents....thinking that they can let the tv do all the work in making their children literate. Poor things don't get taught by their parents. Children look up to their parents...parents are the ones that should get their children interested in books. That is the first step, Introducing books and story time. Why someone would rather that their children learn by watching something on tv than actually interracting with them is beyond me.

I borrowed the CD set from a friend...my daughter wouldn't have any of it. She wouldn't pay attention at all. Granted she is only 10.5months old, but in the program ads they give you the impression that it will work on young babies as well. I'm glad I didn't invest in it.

I heard from some people that it works really well, and from others that it's just garbage. There's no way our son would have ever had it work for him as he won't even sit for more than a second and screams anytime we try to read to him.

Personally I would just stick to reading to your child, you don't need a computer or TV to teach your child how to read. I believe baby einstines (or something like that) guarantee that there product would make there children smarter, now there's a huge law suit about how it didn't work at all.
