Having To Take A Child With To Labor And Delivery??

We are trying to get pregnant now, but I have the same worry. We also do not have any family near by. We are thinking of having an on call nanny, I was checking online and the prices are pretty expensive, but considering that is one time thing, we don't have any other alternative but this. The neighbors offered to take care of DD when I am delivering, but I feel bad to knock on their door on the middle of the night, plus DD is all over the place nowadays.

I'm sure a lot of people have to go through this. Hospitals should offer some kind of service, because it is really just for that 20 hours of delivery.

If u could get to know ur neighbor better it would be a big help. Btw, have u asked the hospital whether they provide childcare? Tell them ur situation (with a little tear if possible) hopefully they'll come up with something. :D

I've worked at a few different daycare centers that do drop in care. Just go in and explain to them that you'd like to have somewhere where she will be cared for when you have to go to the hospital to give labor. Then all you have to do is give them a copy of her immunizations. Then that way when the time comes to go to the Hospital you just call them and drop her off. Then let them know who will be picking her up. Make it fun for her tell her that shes gonna go have fun with some friends and at the end of the day Grandma and Grandpa or Aunt and Uncle or who ever will come and get her to have some more fun with them. I have seen nurses at hospitals watch older children while the mom is giving birth. Prior to that most of the time the child is happy drawing or watching tv in the room with mom.

Why not have her pack a hospital bag too. One full of toys that she can easily play with if the need should arise.

I was in your exact situation a few months ago. Ultimately I went into labor during the day and we had to take our almost 2 year old son to L&D with us. The hospital was very accomodating to us and eventually family members were able to watch him for us. But until that point, my husband spent a lot of his time chasing our son around while the nurses took care of me. It worked out in the end and I'm sure it will for you too.

ask your hospital's policies on bringing her with you, see if they have some sort of setup for that situation. the one hospital near me has a no kids under 16 policy, so you want to make sure they can accomadate you. I would try to line up a neighbor or sitter who can be available on short notice, just to watch the little one until a family member can arrive to pick her up.

Since you already have a child, chances are that you will notice the signs of labor a lot quicker than you did the first time. If you happen to go into labor in the middle of the night, your husband can call off work in the morning... if you go into labor in the middle of the day, you can call him and have him come home which shouldn't take him long in this situation. Either way, it's not likely that the new baby will pop out with no warning. You'll have plently of time to call your husband to come home or even the relative that lives 2 hours away.

You might have to do what you have to do. i worried about that often with mine. it somehow always worked out. We always found someone to watch them and no one had to call off or anything. I don't know what else to tell you. It will work out somehow. Even if you do end up having to take her in with you for a while.
