How is she doing now, Jessica?
Stacey, having a small baby is not a reason to need formula (unless there were feeding issues that you didn't mention). We left the hospital (at 5 days old) w/ neither of my girls weighing 5 pounds. They didn't get on the growth chart for weight til 6 months and height at 9 months, but they grew and thrived just fine on breastmilk alone.

My daughter was 2 weeks early and she weighed 5.8 when she was born which is around 2kg, at the start i was breast feeding her but because she was so small i also had to also formular feed her so we knew exactly how much she was getting, so then after a little while it just became easier to bottle feed her so after about 3 weeks i stopped the breast completely and just formular fed her and it was the best thing i ever done coz she just started stacking the weight on, It did take about 4-5 months but she got there.
She is now 3 years old and is the size and weight of a 5 year old weighing 21kg
So there is nothing bad with ur lil one being so small she will put on the weight it just may take a few months but as she gradually increases the amount of formular she has she will start putting the weight on just be patient lol... :)

hey all, ended up being put in hosp with her, as we took her for a weigh in, like suggested and she'd lost almost 2 kgs :( they have said she has a growth disorder and more testing is being done, to find out if its some technical syndrome :/ but thanks so much for helping :)

Hi Jessica.
Congrats on the birth of your bubba. Personally I wouldn't be too concerned. My eldest was born at 38 weeks 1 day weighing 6pound 3 ounces and wore 5 zeros for 8 weeks. My second son was born preemie at 35 weeks and was 5 pound 5 ounces and he wore 5 zeros for 10 weeks. My daughter was born at 40 weeks 5 days weighing 7 pound 1 ounce and wore 5 zeros for 4 weeks. As long as the health care nurse is happy with her slow but steady weight gain it's ok. 6 to 8 wet nappies a day is also something to look at too. As for feeding bubs knows exactly how much bubs needs and when she needs it. I really wouldn't be listening to anyone else's opinions. Use you gut instinct and bubs will work with you. It's still early days don't be too worried about clothing size etc just enjoy it and keep it in the back of your mind... Hope that helps darl....

Get your baby measured and weighed by the doctor, pediatrician, child health nurse or midwife. Whoever you see to see if bub is doing okay. If bub throws up when feeding then have you tried stopping and burping her every 25 mils or so to see if it is gas that is making her throw up. If it is reflux then go and see thew doctor and speak to them. Keep feeding bub even if she throws up, don't stop feeding her just in case. Good luck.

WOW, I'm confused lol. Anyway all babies grow ifferently and as long as she is healthy & meeting her milestones I wouldnt be to concerned. My girls are both VERY small. My oldest is 4 1/2 and still wears clothes ment for her 2 yr old sister. If she is spiting up and you are bottle feeding then try a formula that is softer on the tummy. My oldest couldnt handle Simalac and had to be on Enfamil because the powder was finer and not as cakie. Trust your Mommy gut you are her only voice so if you feel something is truely wrong talk to her dr and tell them how you feel! Good luck!

It's only been 3 weeks. I'll be honest, my daughter only gained VERY small amounts in her first 6 weeks. She was just a tiny baby. 190 grams is heaps. It is normal in the first week for them to lost weight, and then it takes time for them to gain it back. As long as she is gaining weight, she is fine. Are you getting her weighed at the doctor or the local health centre?

Jessica, have you had her weighed and measured since she was born? It's a much more accurate way to determine if she is gaining weight or not.

In australia we have sizing which goes from size 00000 to 0 for babies so it works out 00000 is premmie 0000 is newborn 000 is 0-3 months 00 is 3-6 months 0 is 6-9/12 months then from 12 months its size 1 for 1yr ols size 2 for 2yr old etc. So when you child is 2 they should be is size 2 my daughter is just really little

As long as she is having 8 wet nappies a day and is taking her bottles she will be doing ok. She was born small so it could be a while before she moves to the next size. If it makes you feel any better my daughter is two and still wears some 0 clothes, some kids are just built little!!! If you are concerned go to child health nurse and have her weighed its free and they can answer any questions you have

Ok so that makes her about 7.25 pounds...which isn't bad either depending on her birth weight.

I asume you are talking about kilo's when you say 5's which means she weighs atleast 11 pounds which is not under weight for a 3 week old.
