It was different with both of my kids ... I breastfed my daughter for three months but she started eating infant oatmeal at two months ... just a little in the mornings and then at night and she was sleeping all night as soon as she started eating it ... my son did not breastfeed at all and started eating oatmeal at about three months ... it just depends on your baby ... you'll know when to start and if their tummy's can handle it.

I started both of my boys on cereal at about 6 months! It really helped with reflux issues they were having.

one of my twin boys has gotten it in his bottle every meal since he was 2 months old (because of reflux). my other son has been eating it since about 5 1/2 months.

My daughter is 5 weeks old, and she's getting cereal in with her bottle... This was per doctor's orders, of course, but she's getting 1 tsp of cereal per ounce of formula... I should add, that this is due to her Acid Reflux issues. It's thicker now, so she can hold it down better.

I started doing cereal once a day with my son when he was 4 months. Moved up to twice a day two weeks later, and three times a day two weeks after that. (THat's what my doctor told me to do!)

I started at six months, both my babies showed a lot of interest in food earlier but i have been told about and read about a link between the increase in food allergies when children start eating solids too young. I have also heard of a link between starting solids early and childhood obesity as well. On the other hand I have known of babies with reflux and lactose issues that have been helped by stating solids earlier so I guess its about what works for each individual family. Both my childeren slept for longer at night after they started, they also became a little constipated, i think i made the cereal too thick so i started adding a little prune juice to it and that helped alot.

Mine was drinking WAY to much milk and decided to start him at five months, only in the morning, then gave him sum cereal in the evening as well after a week. He started sleeping much better and is generally much happier.
