Hi, at what age did you take baby off formula and how did you go about it? Just looking for ages when mothers took baby off the formula and switched to cows milk. Any suggestions how to do this? When did you take your baby off formula? My girl is 13 months, and not sure on when it is appropriate.

I took both of my boys off of formula at 8 1/2 months. I started out with 1/3 milk and the other 2/3 formula till they were completly switched. It took 3 wks then they were switched over. The only reason why I did it so early is that they were going threw 5 more cans a month of formula. It got to be exspensive when I was buy that many cans each month from the time they were 5 months old. My boys were big eaters and the doctor always said they were doing good at every visit.

I took my 9 month old off of formula, at his 9 month doctor visit his doctor took a blood test to see if his protein or iron was high to be takin off and it was, but I mixed some cereal with the milk and he loves it. My son weights 21 lbs. Also make sure you give her any types of meat everyday that will help too, good luck let me know how it goes

Hi, i think its supposed to be at around 12 months that they should start having full fat cows milk. to start with, my son wouldnt drink it, he was a big fan of his formula! so, i started giving him mixed bottles, substituting a couple of ounces of formula for cows milk, gradually increasing the ratio of cows milk to formula until you can give them all cows milk and she shouldnt even really notice if you do it like that. hope this helps :)

I took my son and my daughter off of formula at a year. once they hit that 12 month mark, I started to alternate between regular cows milk and formula, but 2 weeks after the first birthday, they were off of the formula. My youngest daughter is now 7 months and I'm going to do the same thing.

You are supposed to take them off formula at 12 months old, I started giving her Whole milk in bootles at 12 months while still giving her formula and around 13months old she was completely off the formula and eating real food and drinking milk and juice. If you are worried about nutrients and things of that nature I suggest talking to your doctor about putting our baby on liquid vitamin drops, thats what I did.

When my girl was 13months we took her off formula and started with fat free milk, for about 6 months then. After 6 months we then took low fat for another 6 months. There after we switch over to full cream milk, and she has been drinking full cream ever since. Now she only drinks milk at night with nesquik. In the day she drinks juice. Hope it helps.

When my two year old turned one is when I started to switch her to cows milk. She had a sensitive stomach so I ended up switching her to rice milk instead. I say your little girl is most likely ready to go off the formula. If the cows milk is too strong...there are many alternatives =)

I took my daughter off formula after she was a year old and I simple made the change and that was it, she took it very well (better than expected)
I ask maternal health nurse and she suggested waterning the formula and make the change little by little but I think it is better to do it in one go... good luck

Age 12 months is when you can take your baby off formula! Wean baby slowly start with one bottle of milk a day for a couple days and then add another milk bottle and keep going until it's straight milk, you also might want to wean from bottle at same time but I waited until about 18 months to wean from bottle to sippy cup.

I took my daughter off formula at 1 year. i put her an whole milk. at firsty i tried to put it in her bottle but she wouldn;t drink it like that. so i put it in sippy cup and she drank it like it was formula. it was at that time that i took the bottle from her altogether. you can try to mix hafl formula and half cows milk. it works for some. my daughter didn't like it at all.

They usually say 12 months. My son is almost 11 months and I started weaning him off the formula already. Your supposed to use whole milk at first. I do half formula and half milk.

you can switch them over at about 12 months or so, but make sure its homogenized, cause they need the extra fat.

you can actually take them off at about 11 months, you can start out by mixing milk in the formula and not so much water until you think that she is used to the cows milk, but make sure that it is vitamin d milk until she is two...

My boys were all different, but with my last we slowly took him off formula at 11 months. We started by mixing 4 oz of formula with 4 oz. of whole milk. Then 2 oz formula with 6 oz. of whole milk. Then by 12 months he was on whole milk with no formula.

My oldest was 8 months when my nephew decided to help me out by giving her cow's milk and after that she would not take formula which was really good since she could only tolerate enfamil which is expensive, and I checked with her dr and he said if shes handling it fine then dont make such a big deal about it

my son LOVES regular cows milk. recommendations from most dr's is going to be to wait until they are a year old. my son would get occasional whole vitamin d milk with dinner starting around 9-10 months old. if you do want to keep her on formula look for one appropriate for a 12-24 month old (like similac grow and go?) they dont need everything added to an infant formula when they hit a year. and when they are 2 years dr's recommend switching kids to 2% to reduce unnecessary fat from their diet. my son LOVES LOVES LOVES strawberry and chocolate milk, so i give it to him mix 1/2 and 1/2 with whole milk! try that!

my son is 21months and still on formula cow and gate 1yr plus!! ive tried him on cows milk but he just isnt interested. as soon as he is eating properly throughout the day then i will take it off him. he only has 3 bottles a day, first thing in the morning, 1 before his lunchtime nap and 1 before bed. but he isnt eating meals yet so so keeping him on formula is peace of mind for me so i know he is still getting everything he needs. but u will know when your daughter is ready. my daughter was still drinking formula at 2 then when i confiscated her bottles and replaced them with a beaker she took to cows milk then! as she associated her formula with her bottle. mothers instinct will let u know what is best.

They "say" not before their 1st B-Day & all infant formula are for babies up to 12 months & then they have toddler formula. I gave my now 13 month old her first taste of milk on her birthday & she loved it. She still had almost a full can of formula left so I gave her about half & half until it was gone, which was about a week. Your girl is ready for cows milk or if you're afraid she won't get enough nutrients try toddler formula. I tried to give my girl the Enfamil Next Step & she refused to drink it no matter how hungry she was. Hope this helped.

I took my daughter off formula at a year old and switched to cows milk and the transition was just fine. Then when i took her compleatly off the bottle she was around 13 months and it was right after i got out of the hospital from having my 2nd child. I told her she needed to stop taking her brothers bottles and she kept doing it so one day i just let her try and drink out of the bottle and it was formula because she had been drinking cows milk for a while she didnt like the formula at all and wouldnt touch another bottle after that. I think that was a pretty easy way but not all kids are the same way.

once my daughter turned 1 she started drinking regular milk. thats also when we took her off the bottle and pacifier. we had it easy tho cause took it very well. most babies have a hard transitioning. but i gave her cups during the day and bottles at night for 2 weeks and slowly took her off the formula that way.

12 months is the recommended age to stop formula. I mixed milk and formula together and gradually reduced how much formula i used until it was all milk. It didn't take long at all. All three of mine were off the bottle and formula either just before or just after their first birthdays.

I stopped the formula at 1 year. Since I was already giving him semi solid food, I just dropped it all together. I was giving him little tastes of the regular milk, but then he'd prefer that to formula. So I just stopped it. If you are worried about his vitamins, my doctor recommended PolyVisol with Iron. You should ask your babys doctor about that vitamin. Since I'm sure all doctors give different advise

I started taking my daughter off formula at 10 months. I did it slow over a 2 months period. I started by giving her 6-8 oz of formula mixed with 2 oz off milk for about 2 weeks then I went to 4-6 oz of formula mixed with 4 oz of milk for 1 month by this time she was almost old enough to be just on milk so I gave her 2 oz of formula mixed with 6 oz of milk until she was 1 then I just gave her milk. My daughter was really good at eating soilds so my doctor said that starting her at 10 months was fine as long as she was still getting some formula. At 13 months your daughter is diffenitly old enough to be on milk

Our pediatrician also had us start switching to Whole Cow's Milk at 12 months. We slowly switched her over, mixing first 3/4 formula with 1/4 whole milk and gradually working our way towards whole milk over the next week. Its not going to hurt them to give them just Cow's milk to begin with, but it can cause tummy aches and constipation, having such a sudden change in diet.

We took my oldest off the formula at 12 months. The pediatrician told is to do so then. Any younger, they still need the extra stuff in formula/breastmilk. She told us not to dispose of what we had left, but slowly mix it in with the milk. 3/4, to 1/2, on down til it is all milk and no formula left.

i switched my kids at a year old. they did fine. if your child takes the sippy cup i would just put the milk in that. if he/she is used to it being warm then you could warm it up a bit. sometimes my kids wouldn't want to drink the milk, so i would add a little bit of chocolate or strawberry syrup to it. just enough to make it have a little bit of flavor. they liked that real well!
