I was a week overdue, so i had an ultrasound a couple times that week. the doctor told me that i was retaining a lot of water and that is why i looked so big. he said my son would be about 7lbs or less! WRONG!!! my son was born april 19, 2008 weighing 10 lbs 1oz. what a surprise that was.

The last week before my due date I was told that my baby girl would be a "big baby". The doctor estimated an 8 lb baby. Two weeks after my due date I was scheduled for an induction. My lil girl was 2 weeks overdue and still only weighed 7lbs 2oz. If she would have been on time...she would have been a "small baby". It's just an estimation.

I had an U/S 2 days before I had him they said 10lb 7oz he was born at 9lb 3oz... so about a pound off.. the ultrasound totally scared me, but it talked me into having an epidural, It paid off since they had to litterally jump on my stomach to twist him a little so he would get unstuck.

At my last appointment before I went into labor, they estimated my sons weight as 5 pounds. They said that he could be a pound more or a pound less. Well, he was born two weeks early (i had to be induced) at 6 pounds two ounces.

I was prego's with twins, and they estimated my daughter at 5lbs, and my son at almost 6lbs, My daughter came out 3lbs 10 oz, and my son was 5 12. I was really upset with it being so innacurate, because she was sooo tiny. She was considered full term though thank goodness. Just really small.

When I got my ultrasound down on my sons due date they said he was going to be born over 10 lbs and he was a wopping 9lbs 3oz so it's a bit off, but it's not all about sonogram it is about the technician too.

About 2 weeks before my daughter was born, they estimate her weight to be 6lbs. 4oz. and estimated her birth weight to be around 7lbs. 4oz. When she was born she weighed 6lbs. 4 oz. The ultrasound can give you an educated guess, but it all depends on when you last ate and how big the baby's bladder is . . . . GOOD LUCK!

I too went to a midwife and had the same problem. They estimated the baby was about 8 pounds, 1 day before my water broke...she was 9'1 and I too had to have a c-section after 25 hours of labor plus they had me push 5 more hours until a doctor said my pelvis was narrow and a c-section should would have been scheduled if I had seen a doctor. oh well...pretty baby worth all the pain! ;)

I was told that my son was going to be 9-10 lbs and he was 8lb 1.8oz. So I guess that's not TOO far off, I mean I've heard crazier estimates. I don't think they can really tell you exactly anyway.

I had my last ultrasound 2 days before my due date because the dr. thought that she was breech. (she was frank breech and I had to have a c-section). We asked him what he thought her weight was, and the figured that she was about 6.5 pounds. 2 days later when Disney was born, we found that she was 7 lbs 10.5 oz.

3days before we had our daughter they told us she would be lucky if she was more than 6lbs. I told my hubbie they were wrong and she would be well OVER 7lbs. Riley was 7lbs 11oz. Those measurements can be off usually by up to 3lbs but they get in the area.

I knew I was going to have a big baby, but my Dr. kept telling me my abd. was measuring normal. I had an u/s in the office at 40wks. and she estimated her at 10lbs. she was shocked! She sent me for another more specialized u/s at a high risk OB that same day and they estimated her at 9lbs. 13oz. I had her by scheduled c-section 5 days later because I was not even close to going into labor and she weighed 9lbs. 14oz. Pretty accurate in this case!

My friend is an ultra sound tech and he said they can olny estimate the weight within a pound and a half. Coiuld be a pound a half heavier or lighter. It's very hard for them to tell later in pregnancy because they get an estimate using measurments, which is hard to do when the baby is bigger and more squished in there. With my first they told me a 9lb baby and she was only 7lbs 3oz. With my second they told me a 9 lb and he was 9lbs 9oz. It's really just a guesstamate!

I had my last ultrasound 5 days before I had my twins (I was about 33 wks along), twin A was estimated to be 5 lbs. 3 ozs and twin B was estimated to be 4lbs. 11 ozs. When they were born twin A was 5lbs. 6 ozs. and twin B was 4lbs. 15.5oz....so I would say it was pretty accurate. However, I a co-worker of mine had an ultrasound 2 days before her delivery and was told her baby was weighing close to 10 lbs, but he was 7lbs flat.....

I only had a birth weight given on my 3rd child and boy were they off by a mile and a half. They also felt my belly 2 hours before delivery and gave the same estimate. They said 7lbs 3 oz., The doctor was delivering the baby and only had his head out and told me "I retract that statement hes closer to 9lbs" sure enough 8lbs 8.5oz.

The doctor had me get an emergency ultrasound 4 days before my son was born bc he thought my son wouldn't even be 5 lbs on his due date which would have been 17 days after the ultrasound. My son was born 13 days before his due date (4 days after the ultrasound) and he was 6 lbs 4 oz. So they were pretty far off with him. I am pregnant with my second child now, so we will see how this one goes.

Both of my children weren't accurate on their prediction of birth weight. My daughter was predicted to be very long and about 7-8 pounds. When she was born, she was only 18 inches and 6 pounds. My son was predicted to be 8 to 9 pounds and when he came, he was 21 1/2 inches and 7 pounds 5 ounces. I think it just depends on your doctor and how good they are.

My sons birth weight was 10lb, he got stuck and after 47 hour labour i had a section. When i was pregnant with my daughter i asked for a sizing scan because if it was another biggun i would not even tyr for a natural birth but if she was average i would give it a go. My consultant refused me a scan because he said its like lookin at an x ray in a goldfish bowl, its gets distorted and is too hard to be accurate! anyway i ended up with another section and a 9lb 4 bundle x

My doctor induced my labor early because they said my son weighed less than 5 pounds, and was not growing (Intrauterine Growth Restriction). He was born 7 pounds and perfectly healthy. The day before my daughter was born they told me she would be close to 8, and she was 6lb 14oz. Accuracy really depends on the position of the baby and how you're carrying it.

I had an Ultrasound when I was in labour and was told my Daughter would be 8.2 pound and she was born 7 pound. So its not an exact science.
