How can I avoid my 4 and a half year old daughter from getting thrush all the time?

My daughter keeps getting thrush. We've taken her to the doctors a few times but as she's only 4 and a half all they can give her is the cream. It usually flares up at night and she screams with pain - it's a nightmare! Is there anything we can do or not do to prevent her from getting it re-occurring?

You're talking about a yeast-infection kinda deal right? My daughter has the same issue from time to time. The first thing we did was took her to the doctors....they gave us some cream.... but it didn't seem to really help at times. So from talking with the doctor and other moms, I came up with several suggestions that may help... 1-limit her sugar intake, 2- switch to showers instead of bathes, or limit the soap in the water if showers are not an option, 3- switching to frangrence free laundry detergant and soaps and lotions, 4- no panties at bedtime when wearing jammie pants or jammie shorts, 5- getting the kleenex or cottenel flushable wipes for her to use to help "clean" herself when wipping after using the toliet.

Hope this helps.

Have you asked your doctor about probiotics? Like those in yogurt. They suggest that women take probiotics or eat plain yogurt when on antibiotics to prevent yeast infections. Do they occur when she's sick? Maybe it's from low immunity during an illness? My daughter got it once when she was younger, but she's in a diaper and that holds moisture to the skin which can cause it. Not sure what would cause it to reoccur.
