How can I get my baby to sleep through the night?

Something important to remember (which is hard to with all of these miraculous stories of one-month-olds sleeping all night) is that sleeping all night is not just a skill, but it's a product of brain maturation. An infant's brain is mature enough to sleep all night until they are about a year old. It's the same part of the brain that controls emotional outbursts (aka-- tantrums, crying, uncontrollable laughter, etc.). It doesn't mean that you can't still try to teach them the skills for sleeping and help them along, but don't frustrate yourself if your baby isn't like all of these other moms' babies.

Hi I got my baby to sleep through the night by 3 months old. I read a book called the baby wise and also the baby whisperer it was amazing!! it was hard at first but as long as they get enough calories in the day, the gist of how i did it was he goes to bed at 7:30pm i give him a dream feed between 10pm and 11 pm ( no later) and he sleeps tell 6am. Now it sounds easy but it toke about 3 days of consistancy. You have to ignore them because they get in the habit of waking up at night. Just like a body clock. Now of course its a heart breaker to listen to them cry and i did some crying my self but on the second night he slept right tell 5:30 and the 3rd day was no problem. he didn't cry at all when it was bed time. And when he did wake up he didnt cry of anything he just lays there and talks to him self tell i come in. I really recommend those books and if you want to get your baby on a good day routine go to page 34 in the baby whisper. I hope this helps you..:)

I hope this helps you , It helped me. My daughter is now 19 months and is still sleepin all through the night by doing this. I put a radio in her room and bought a white noise and nature crickets cd , and would play it at night every night non stop . I was relizing that when I was putting her to bed I would always begin rocking her in the living room with the tv on, and once I put her to bed in her room she would instantly wake up, Then I reliezed it was quite in her room and she had gotten use to noise while she was sleeping. So me and my Husband started that Idea and knock on wood have had no problems. It also helps you fall asleep in you are like me and have the baby monitor right next to your ear while you are sleeping, instead of listening to static I was drifted off the sleep by the sound of rain and crickets.

how old is your baby? all babies are different... My son didnt steadily sleep through the night until he was a little over a year old. He had his spurts where he would before then, but not much. I am a firm believer that a child should never be left to cry and that a baby will sleep through the night when they are ready.

We used the controlled crying method, which i swear by. We give Bayden a bottle at about 6:30pm then bed at 7pm and let him put himself to sleep. He sleeps straight through the night until about 8:30pm with no breaks. We started that when he was 6 months but he was sleeping through the night at about 3 months, waking up a couple times.

It is really hard for the first few nights but very much worth it in the end.

www.babysleephelp.

I bought an e-book for 5 bucks there.

My babies slept through the night before 2 months of age. They both sleep through the night 12 hours and my 2 yr old still takes 1 (3 hour) nap while my 7 month old takes 3 naps (varied amounts of time usually 1 hour, 2 hours, 2 hours each). I tell everyone about that book! It is INCREDIBLE! It is written by a friend of mine who has 4 kids of her own that she used it with.

I also enjoyed the happiest baby on the block. It is great for learning how to soothe your baby, I just watched the VHS from the library!

How old is your baby? First of all, make sure you are putting your baby down for the night within the 6pm hour, it's when the baby's brain tells them it's time to sleep. Secondly, make sure they are napping well during the day. If you have your baby down around 6pm they should sleep straight through until about 6am, depending on how old they are...if the baby is very new (less than 3 months) they may need to eat at least once at night.

My first son slept through the night from day 1! My 2nd not so much. I asked my Mom she said Give him CEREAL! lol, So in his last bottle for the night I would put Gerber Rice Cereal in his bottle it made it thicker and more filling by 2 weeks he was sleeping from 11pm till 7am!

My daughter started sleeping thru the night at 7 weeks with this trick.. She had reflux and my doc recommended switching to soy formula and adding a tiny bit of rice cereal to her formula or breast milk whichever one you are using. It thickens the milk and fills their bellies and she has been sleeping great ever since. Good luck!!

I had my daughter on a very good eating schedule and she would sleep completely through night at 2 months old. From the time we brought her home we feed her every 9:30 until about 6 or 7 in the morning. She is now 19 months and still no problems. Good luck

my baby started to sleep at night when she was 3 weeks old . . .try diming the lights & less play so that he/she knows it time to go to sleep. OR yu can give your baby a bath with the johnson & johnson bedtime bath & after that apply the lotion it sooths them so they can sleep through the night!!

my daughter didn't wanna sleep through the night until we started feeding her about 30 minutes before she would go to sleep...nothing big but a snack. She started sleeping through the night @ 3 months we would put baby cereal in with her formula {the doc told us to do it} and now she's gonna be 1 year on May 19th and we give her a lil snack.

You need to read two books: "The Happiest Baby on the Block" by Harvey Karp and "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" (I can't remember the author's name). They helped me tremendously!

My son has been sleeping through the night since he was about 2 months old. Everynight I rub him down in the Johnson and Johnson's lavendar bedtime lotion and then give him a bottle and he it out!! If he's really fussy at nightime, then he gets a bath with the bedtime wash and then rub down with the lotion and then a bottle and he sleeps perfectly. He goes to be around 10pm and wakes up around 10am. Can't complain about that. The lotion had worked well for me and I wouldn't change a thing in my routine. Hope this helps.

Even though I did not have a problem of my daughter sleeping through the night. There was those times when she would get up in the middle of the night, then I tried giving her a rice bottle and it has worked ever since then. So now everynight I give her a rice bottle and she only gets up about 2AM and sleeps until 9AM. I put her to bed between 9 PM and 10 PM.

Try to keep them up as much as possible during the day. I know it's so so easy to want to sleep all day when their staying up all night but if you can tough it out for a few days he/she should get their days and nights back in order. Good luck mamma!!

My daughter was sleeping through the night by about 1month old. A tip I read before I had her was during the day time hours keep her say in the living room where the TV/Radio is on-an area where there are things going on that is very well lit. Basicly a place that would be hard for YOU to sleep if not totally wore out. Then at night put the babe in their room, mostly dark with NO noise. They soon will reset their own clock. On the other hand if you are not totally ready to let go of that mommy baby time (even though you just think I want to sleep-but spend time w/my baby) the baby wont be ready. On the really bad side of things....mostly it's just each kid is different and has very little to do with the amount of cal. intake. Some kids will wake up during the night till they are 4 years old!!!! And that is normal for them. Good luck girl!!!
