Look at your mom. Does she have them? Cances are that if she does, so will you. Rubbing things on the outer layer of your skin will no nothing to prevent stretch marks because they are the result of the inmost layer of skin tearing due to poor elasticity. Stretch marks come from the inside out. The BEST way to "prevent" them is to drink A LOT of water and spend some time gently massaging your belly a few times a day.

I thought i was home free of getting any of them, i had none whatsoever till 2 weeks before i had my daughter then some appeared out of no where! i did use Bio-Oil everyday, but apparently it didn't work so well...but i only got about 5 little ones, and they're low down on my tummy, but compared to what they looked like before they were really bright, i've been using Bio-Oil still all the time, and they have faded a considerable amount, and its been 7 months since i had her, you can barely see them, but that may have something to do with the fact it was just summer, and i think a bit of a tan blended them in so they didn't stand out so much too. Stretchmarks are in your genes, if your mom got them chances are so will you. but i thought i was lucky, till they sneaked up on me right at the end!! lol

Unfortunately there is nothing you can really do to prevent them as if you are going to get them, you are going to get them. I didn't get mine until i hit 30 weeks and they are only on the lower half of my tummy. They started off bright red but have now started to fade. I just used cocoa butter which seemed to help to some extent. But unfortunately there isn't a whole lot you can do. Some women are really lucky and don't get any at all. I wasn't one of those lucky women! LOL =)

walmart sells this vitiman E OIL its pure oil, and works very well.. Make sure u put it on every morning and evening the more u put it on the more u stomach becomes more like elastic that will stretch without OVERSTRETCHING. its made by cocoa butter I believe. u can find it in the baby section or the lotion section it works great

I put on cocoa butter religiously. My stomach was always slimey, My doctor laughed at me because i had so much lotion on, but it worked good. I gained 50lbs, which is ALOT for one 7lb baby. And i am very petite, 5'1 110. I didn't get ANY stretch marks during or afterwards. It worked wonders. But if your stomach is itchy, do not scratch it, put lotion on. Its stretching is why it'll itch and my doctor said if you scratch it you are more likely to get stretchmarks! Good luck!

Olive Oil is also good for strech marks, I didn't have any when I was pregnant but I noticed some faint marks on my stomach once my son was born, you can't really help getting them unfortunately but just moisuturise to reduce them.

I did everything in the book not to get them. my body is now a road map lol. Basically
if you're mom had them then i'm afraid your destined to get them too. my mom has them really bad. I gained a lot of weight though which probly had a lot to do with it. But just look at them as something precious your body was able to do for you to have your beautiful baby.

one thing that will help but may not be possible is try not to gain weight to rapidly that is one of the reasons you get stretch marks. I got them on the sides of my hips and to be honest they have faded so chances are yours will too. Granted that was 6 months after he was born. However they haven't gone away but are definitely less noticeable and keep moisturized that will help too but if members of your family have them you will be more prone to getting them. good luck

Unfortunately stretch marks can't be avoided...it's all up to your body, skin and genetics is what I'm told. I feel obligated to do something tho just in case it does help. I've been using Vitamin E oil and Cocoa Butter from the start and I have gained a little more that I should have but I just barely started to get stretch marks and I'm due in a few weeks. I am also having a big baby which makes me bigger and there's nothing I can do about that. So I would try some of the suggestions knowing they may not work and if they do....sweet!

i used anything that had collegen elastine in it. it is brilliant. it makes your body stretch (like an elastic band) and retract without any marks. i never had one stretch mark and would put it down to this cream and excercise.

They also say what causes Strech marks is gaining too much weight in one period. So gain weight gradually and not too much. I was 96pounds when I got prego and gained 55pounds while pregnant and now I'm 100 pounds and have no strech marks.

I agree with an earlier post - if you're gonna get them, there is really not much you can do. I'm one of the lucky ones and have 3 small marks after two kids. I don't drink tea or coffee so I drink lots of squash/water. That helps I think. Good luck. x

I put the stretch mark coca butter on my tummy after every shower! But if you eat right, fruits veggies and not alot of junk..you wont gain more weight than you need to, that helps. I never had any while I was pregnant, but after I had my son I had some on my hips. So I think stretch marks are inevididable, the only thing you can do is control how "bad" they are.

[deleted account]

I hate to say it, because I felt the exact same way, but no matter what you do, stretch marks are like cellulite.... it's genetic. If mom has them, you most likely will too. I used everything to not get stretch marks. I didn't get them until about 2 weeks before my daughter was born, then one by one they showed up. They were pink, then after about a month they faded into being virtually invisible. Good luck!

Drink lots of orange juice and apply cologen and vitamin e lotions daily. if your skin is itchy avoid scrating it.. just lather up on lotion. Also try to gain steady weight.. if you gain alot at once your more likely to get them. people think just vitamin e lotion and coco butter will work.. but our skins elasticity is made up of cologen so applying cologen will increase the elasticity. Ive had two kids and my second baby I gained 40lbs I have no stretch marks.. but some people will get them and some wont.. anyway..this is what I did and I hope it helps you!! best of luck!

I dont suggest this.

Contrary to what 99% of the posters said: You cant do ANYTHING to prevent stretchmarks.

Lotions and oils only soften the skin and alleviate itching that can come with strecthing skin. And drain your wallet.

If there TRULY was a way to not get them, no one would have them.

They're hereditary as well as just random.

Usually thinner women will get none or very few. This is because their skin isnt already stretched over layers of fat. So the more overweight you are pre-preg the more likely you'll end up with them.

In the end: YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO PREVENT STRETCHMARKS.

When I was pregnant with my first baby I did nothing and I ended up with HUGE ugly bright dark red stretch marks all over my tummy. After I had him and when I got pregnant again I started using baby oil all over my stomach after I washed but before I got out of the shower. It did wonders!! All my stretch marks turned white and almost disapeared. Try drinking plenty of water too so that your skin keeps up with its elasticity as well as rubbing your tummy down with cocoa butter. That should help! Goodluck!

Unfortunatly you can't really prevent pregnancy stretch marks, they're hereditary...if your mom had them, your chances to get them are pretty high. Try to watch your diet and not gain an excessive amount of wieght. Some stretch marks can also come from gaining too much wieght too fast. You can use a palmers lotion or vitamin lotion to help keep the stretch marks a lighter color.

I use Palmers Tummy Butter and Palmers Stretch Mark Massage cream. I have gotten stretch marks on my boobs (I went from a b cup to a d cup by 15 weeks) and on my butt :(. I have used both products twice a day since I found out I was pregnant. Sorry to say, there's nothing you can do to prevent them, but I think that mine coud have been lots worse if I hadn't been moisturising, hydrating and excersizing. The stretch marks I do have are already fading and are very tiny. I am 7 months tomorrow and I don't have a single stretch mark (yet :/) that wouldn't be covered by a bikini. I was really worried about getting stretch marks, too. I also am young and I wanna be a hot mama lol, but I have found that as you get bigger, and gain weight, you also will start to feel the baby moving and responding to you. It gave me the reassurance that what was happening and going to happen to my body was all to support the tiny life growing inside of me! And I really don't care anymore about all that stuff, all I care about is keeping my baby growing good and healthily! Keep ypur chin up and good luck!

There is no proven method that works for everyone, but I was also very afraid of stretch marks and did everything I could to prevent them... and I don't have any. So here are my ideas:

1. Drink LOTS of water... it helps keep your skin nourished and moist, which helps with elasticity.
2. Rub any kind of moisturizing cream all over your belly every day, especially when you get out of the shower as this locks in moisture. People say cocoa butter or vitamin E, or whichever, but I just used regular Vaseline moisturizer.
3. If you don't exercise, at least stay active. Walk whenever you can, and take the stairs if its only a few flights. (I used to live on the 3rd floor of my apartment and took the stairs every day, and I didn't have a car so I had to walk everywhere.)
4. Eat healthy. You are technically not eating for two... you're eating for like one and a half, if that. Don't use pregnancy as an excuse to mow down on everything in sight, or else you're going to have a hell of a time losing it all.

Hey rachl, I did everything I could not to get stretch marks but I got them and I was covered. I think if you are going to get them you will and theres not much you can do about it. My mum has them bad and so does her mum so it must run in the family. They do go down very quickly and I am left with silver marks now. I am not embarresed because I see them as my war wounds and I wouldn't change them now because I have two beautiful children who mean more to me than anything. They are defnitely worth it!
Rub in lots of cream and try to keep the area hydrated, drink lots of water and hope for the best. I bet you won't even care after anyway:) Good luck with the birth:)

Hey Rachel....... I'm 25 and have had 2 kids now.... out of it I have gotten my body almost back to what it was before having kids.....I was 50kgs before and i'm now 58kgs... However i'm happy with my body! I have 3 small strech marks on my stomach which r not even noticeable and I got them in the last few weeks of the pregnancy with my 2nd. All I used was coca butter and baby oil.......... If you have a partner get him to rub it mostly on your breast, stomach, back hips and thighs.... it is a great way to bond with baby or if you feel up to it....it can also be a bit of a turn on for both u and him! All the best...My main piece of advise is don't stress too much over your body... enjoy the beauty of what's happening inside!

Like a lot of people are saying you will either get them or you wont. But to reduce your chances to get them drink plenty of water so you can hydrate your skin from the inside out and improve elasticity. And when you apply lotions do it as soon as you get out of the shower so your pores are open and the lotions have more of a chance of getting to more than just the top layer of your skin ( the top layer of your skin is dead so putting lotion on dead skin doesn't help) I am expecting and a lil nervous about stretch marks but this is the most helpful info that I have found.

There are some women who dont get them but majority of women do. But they do fade away into your skin color after awhile. I have 4 kids and you cant tell I have any but my oldest is 12years old now.

I say embrace the stretch marks if you end up with them...it is unavoidable because even with all of the oils and creams slathered on to your body, they won't prevent stretch marks, they will merely make them less visible on your body. Just because you have stretch marks doesn't mean your body is done for...consider them battle scars and wear them proudly!

[deleted account]

Sadly, stetch marks don't go away! You can use the cocoa butter and other products to help ligten them but they are perm unless there is some surgical procedure, LOL. Good Luck
