How do i get my son to burp? He's three weeks old and i have a hell of a time getting him to burp!!! Its really hard to get him to burp, i sit and pat him on the back for what seems like forever and nothing...and then he gets all fussy and cranky because he gets tummy aches and ends up spitting up...any suggestions?

my girls never burped for me I always handed them off to my husband and I still have no idea how he got them to burp! sorry I'm not help! I heard that laying them across your knees and then slowly bouncing your knees (one and a time) dose the trick.

when my step son was about 3 months old we had the same problem..i found that rubbing up his back very gently always worked and it worked fast! we tried laying him on his stomach and everything else, that only made him mad! so rubbing his back is what worked best for us! hope this helped :)

I would sit my son on my lap and slowly tilt him from sided to side and front to back. It was really relaxing for him and it seems to work the air bubbles out. He had reflux so there was always spit-up with him. With my daughter I would rub her back and that seemed to work really well for her.

What I use to do is stack up some pillows and prop myself on them so I was on an incline.

Then place my son on my chest, on his belly. Then I would slowly rub his back in an upward motion. I think the pressure and incline helped the gas move up and out. Also it helped when he was really grumpy and wiggly when I was trying to burp him so I wasn't struggling to get a handle on him. It also tied in his "Tummy time", some bonding moments, and I felt alot less stressed about burping him because I was comfy too.

p.s) I would always place a burping pad on my chest incase of spit-up.
