i have a 4 mth old n everybody told me when u breastfeed ur stomach goes back quicker. dont listen. i have all that flab at the bottom of my stomach i lost most of my weight but not thanks to nursing. the only thing i gotta outta of nursing was the bonding time between me n my baby! im still in the process of losing my weight plus some. i think walking with the stroller, playing airplane with her, and singing and dancing just so she'll crack a smile is what helped drop of lot of lbs. now ima try to get back into my old work out routine.. pilates with Denise Austin. if it works girl,,, we can do it together.!!!!

I have heard when it comes to flattening your belly you need to work your deepest muscles first then work your way up to your superficial muscles. If you do sit ups then its just working your top muscles and once you get them tight then there is no way of getting your deeper muscles to tighten up as well. Your transverse abdominis is your deepest muscle and is the muscle you need to work on first. I would suggest going to a trainer at a gym and have them give you the right excersises. I went to massage school and I learned a little bit about this stuff. I never continued after I was done and that was 3 years ago so I'm a little rusty with all the knowledy lol. But what I've been doing is getting a workout ball or any ball and laying down on my back with the ball between my legs and lifting it up a few inches off the ground and holding it for a bit and then repeat. I just started trying that along with getting active at the gym. Hopefully this helped ya out :)

Luckily mine melted off with in 3 months and I wasn't breastfeeding. However lots of Cardio!! Warm up for 10 - 15 mins do a quick stretch and try to do your work out while your heart rate is still high!! Also watch what you eat Pop and Sodium causes lots of bloating that can seem like belly fat (eating after you exersize is best because your still burning calories!). Processed foods can cause it too. Fish Oils and Almonds are good to reduce belly fats too! The quickest way is obviously a tummy tuck but exersize and watching what you eat is the only way it will go away on it's own!!

I just want to say that I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week, for an hour each time. (Not as long as I'd like, but I don't have a lot of time for that lol) I am not fat, but no matter how hard I try, I still have the little flubbery pouch! No abs here.

To the person above me... I went shopping when my son was 2 weeks old and the girl was like "You had him 2 weeks ago?!" and looked at her stomach then mine and scowled and walked away. Hahaha, people are funny.

With my first child i nursed and i lost all the weight in 4 days. I was told at a local store that i was a bitch for looking that good with a week old child and then she walked away...harsh! Anyways, he just turned 2 in September and i just had my second child this July and i'm still fighting to lose those last 3-5lbs and tone up again. Yes i can fit in to most of my old clothes but my confidence has gone waaaay down. I go to the gym 3 nights a week since she was 4 weeks old and i also did a bootcamp on top of that every saturday for a month and nothing. I can honestly say i don't eat right so i know that is a big thing with me. I watch 4 other kids besides my 2 during the day so i just snack on small things while i can so i know that also doen'st help but it's so hard to have time for eating a meal besides supper with my family. I tried the 30 day shred by jillian michaels but after a week i started my bootcamp and stopped doing it. In the week i did it i lost 3lbs so i'm thinking of going back to that. It is VERY intense!! I struggled for the first 4-5 days but then it was a piece of cake...mmm cake....until i got to the second stage then it was hard! Give it a try ladies. It works muscles i never knew i had and it's only 20 minutes a day:) oh i also started taking apple cider vinager pills 2 days ago with every meal. It helped before my prom to lose 5lbs so i'm giving it a shot again...i'm now 24yrs old today:)

The only suggestion that I have is when you are thinking about it tighten it. So if you are at the computer, in the car, were ever. Tighten you belly muscles, dont suck in your stomach just tighten them. I lost over 75 pounds doing this. I not only did my belly but when I was in bed or were I felt comfortable I would tighten every single muscle in my body. Now this is not an over night thing I worked on it for about 3-4 weeks before I seen results myself and it makes you feel so great you will continue. Just remember to do it as often as possible even if it is only for 30-60 seconds at a time. I hope this helps

Curious - what was your caloric intake/dietary plan and did you do ANY other exercise??  And what were these (diet. and exercise) stats before you lost all the weight??

Okay - I wish you girls would read some of the other posts in this thread.   Most of the replies are "If you find out, let me know!!"   I'm letting your know!!! lol Not only have I posted several informative (fact-based) posts, I've given links, and videos.

Della - As happy as I am that you are exercising, if you have REAL fitness goals, you must do more.  There has to be a deficit : calories in vs. calories burned.  This is the key to weight loss - simple as that!

I get it - You like to eat.  There aren't many of us who don't.  And here's the good news!  Once you reach a certain point, you can gradually start adding back foods that wouldn't really benefit you in the start of your exercise routine.
As I've said in this exact thread - *higher metabolism = more calories burned.  * higher the muscle mass = higher metabolism.  * increase in caloric burn = decrease in body fat.  The absolute most effective way to raise your metabolism is not by skipping breakfast and eating carrot sticks all day, its by PUTTING ON LEAN MUSCLE MASS!
Unfortunately, "power walking" with light weights isn't gonna get the job done.  It may maintain the weight you're at right now, but I doubt it's going to burn enough calories to see any difference.  Unless you're walking 6 hrs a day - this isn't gonna cut it.
And I'm not sure why you use the wrist weights - I'm guessing they're 3 lbs each or less, which means after about a week (maybe less) of using them, they're not doing a bit of good.  Your muscles will get bored with the same work out routine.  If you walk 20 minutes every day, it doesn't take long for your body to adapt to this schedule and no longer react.  You must shock your muscles.  This is the only way to see change.  If you walked the past 2 days,  ride a bike tomorrow, then swim.  And please remember, strength training is necessary.  You can lose the fat by intense cardio, but it'll be much easier if you're weight training, and your body will only look more toned, lean and firm!

I don't know if women are afraid to lift heavy, bc they think they'll get bulky, but please listen.  It's basically genetically impossible for any average woman to get a "body builder" look by lifting weights!   Unless you're taking HGH, or Anabolic steroids, it just won't happen.

Rachel - it's great that you have Wii Fit and are doing that but, I honestly haven't heard anything beneficial.  If you absolutely can NOT join a gym, I recommend P90X - it's intense but EXTREMELY effective.   I also suggested everyone watch a video I posted in this thread.   As the trainer in the video says, he uses these exercises on children and NFL athletes!!!   You can do it at home - no weight is required, and believe me, I've done it, and it will raise your heartrate and burn a ton of calories!!  Its a 30 minute vid., only about 15 minutes or so is the actual workout (they call it a warm up, but for beginners, this will be a good workout!).

Christina - how long has it been since your C-section??  I may have some advice for you.

As I've said, I'm an NASM Certified pre/post natal Personal Trainer - this is what I do!!  I'd love to help any and everyone that truly wants to make a wonderful life change!!

i found that pole dancing lesson helps u lose it as u tone up why u r doin it so u end up with a flat belly and becoz u r toning at the same time u do not end up with a flat belly and extra skin if u can do a lesson that works on the moves then the belly fat will go quick i have been doing it for 5 weeks now 1 hour per week an have lost over a stone and has nerly got my flat belly back and it also works on ur legs and arms aswell

[deleted account]

I have Wii fit and most of it you can do on your own without it. When you are watching T.V. instead of sitting and watching you can do step. You can use a short step stool or something of that nature and just try to keep a steady pace while doing it. Also, a hula hoop is another one and you can use canned food as weights to do for your arms.

tummy tuck is your only hope. after the skin is stretched during pregnancy u can lose weight and make it flat but u will still have the extra skin. Sorry to ruin ur day. lol

Since the above poster obviously has no or very little knowledge of the human anatomy, fitness or nutrition and decided to throw a blanket over every pregnant woman's body - Here's a little bit of factual information for you :)

First of all, this will be very generic and may not apply.  I'd need your stats to personalize it:  past weight, current weight, age, height, body fat %, current exercise routine, did you breastfeed or not?, how long have you been postnatal?, stretchmarks?, etc.
I'm an NASM certified Personal Trainer, certified in pre/postnatal exercise.  My husband has a degree in fitness and wellness, and is a former bodybuilder.  So please please please feel free to post or message me and we can definitely help you, no matter what your current situation is.

Skin is a living organ,  and it constantly adapts to it's interior and exterior.  However, you'll realize, where there are stretchmarks, there's loose skin, and that's when skin is basically unable to regain its orginal shape.
Muscle mass is key.  You obviously want to lose body fat, but weight lifting is essential.  Not only does weight lifting only firm and tone your body (not bulk), but more muscle mass = a higher metabolism.  Every bit of muscle you gain increases your metabolism's caloric burning capacity by 50+ calories an hour!!  So, for those who are telling you to do 100 sit ups a day, forget it.  Spot training isn't beneficial in the least.  Just because you do 20 min of cardio and 1,000 crunches doesn't mean you're gonna have those rock hard abs.  You need to train every muscle (glutes, abs, biceps, lats, etc) bc again, to lose body fat effectively you need to raise your metabolism, and muscle mass is the best way to do that!!  There are a lot of other things you can do to boost your metabolism (although minimal), such as drinking ice cold water as soon as you wake up, and eating 6 small meals spaced throughout the day (3 hr intervals).  You body is working, therefore burning calories.

Also, your skin needs time to regain its elasticity.  So if you just had your baby, keep in mind your body is STILL adjusting.  I'm very fortunate.  I gained 33 lbs with my son, and with high intensity cardio and tons and tons of strength training - I looked better than I did pre-pregnancy!!  It CAN be done, don't let some of these women tell you it can't just because of their own personal experience.   Your body just went through 9 months of anatomic torture :)   Don't doubt what you can do.

Its the depo shot. I was on depo about 5 or 6 years ago. Those 2 years of my lifer were my heaviest dispite no change in my exercise or diet routine. When I went back to the pill I instantly lost the weight. My son was born in Dec. and I lost my baby weight (and tummy) by about 6 months after my son was born. I exercised LOTS and I was strict about what I was eating. If you don't have time to go to the gym, pick up your baby and go up and down the stairs while singing or playing with him/her. And strap your little one into the stroller and go walking. But I bet if you switched your birth control to something different you would lose the weight.

Yeah I had him at 22 & am 23 now...I was doing well before I got on the depo shot, then I gained 10 lbs & haven't been able to get rid of it, even though I am no longer on the depo. I'm trying to find time to exercise but it's hard. The only time I have to exercise is in the morning & my son wants to play then, so if I try doing wii fit, he tries to 'help'. It's adorable & fun, but I don't get a very good work out...
Nothing wrong w/ having a little pooch, I guess. It's better than trying to be as tiny as ppl in Hollywood. I'm in the middle of my normal weight range for height & if I manage to lose a bit more weight, I'll still be stuck w/ the pooch, but be a little happier either way
