My month and a half year old daughter has solid stools like you or i would have. and my mother said that she is constapated. what is her poo suposed to be like is this normal?????????????????
she is burping and tooting alot like normally but the stools are smaller and harder? it this normal?

I have the same problem with my little boy who is 2 months. First check the formula. It may be a case of lactose intolerance. We had to switch to another formula. I have to help him poo every day or two by moving his legs like he is riding a bike and pushing his legs up to have his knees touch his chest (that works for gas too) everytime I change his diaper. Take a bit of her lotion and rub clockwise around her belly button, this will help move her poo down. If she is gassy...burping and tooting...use mylicon or gas x...it works wonders and keeps them from fussing a lot. DON'T use the q-tip and vaseline up the bum unless you absolutely have to. It triggers the poo urge un-naturally and if it is used too much then she will lose the natural urge to go on her own. It works really well but only do that if she has not gone poo in 2 or more days. Try not to let her go more than 2 days without pooing. Try supplmenting her with a little prune or white pear juice, equal parts of juice and water once or twice a day. My doc said no more than 4oz total of juice per day. Gerber makes an apple/prune juice that tastes a whole lot better than just prune juice. Hope this helps!!

hard balls or it can just be big but firm. its not supposed to be firm. if they are constipated you usually see them strain and cry and can sometimes bleed, or they get stuck half way between trying to go. if shes formula fed she most likely is constipated. just use some vaseline on a cotton tip sounds grose but it gives a bit of relief for them, or give her some prune juice and water through a bottle or raw sugar in the bottle just half a tea spoon or less.

This is constipation in a breastfed baby and is so very rare that I cannot recall ever seeing it in a baby who is receiving breastmilk as a sole source of nutrition, as are most babies in the first six months. It could be related to a food allergy. Formula fed babies get constipated much more often and may even have harder bigger stools like older kids and adults. Getting these stools softer is a balancing act of great proportions.

Constipation can be a sign of dehydration; mild dehydration often occurs when introducing your baby to solid foods. Breastfed babies are less likely to be constipated because breast milk has a natural balance of fat and protein which promotes soft stool. The symptoms of constipation include irritability when passing a bowel movement, blood in the stool, and pellets. Contact your doctor. Increasing your baby’s fiber intake can also help. Foods high in fiber include pureed prunes, pears and apricots.
