i think i had mine about 6 weeks after, think it was June (my daughter was born in April) but I did breastfeed so don;t know if that made a difference-don't think there is an actuall time frame. Speak to your midwife if you are concerned :)

I had the initial bleeding from the birth which went on for about 4 weeks. I had a 2 day break and then my 1st period came along which lasted about 2 weeks and was very heavy.
I went on the contraceptive pill after the 1st period and they've settled down to how they were before I was pregnant now :)

Well it depends, if you're breastfeeding or bottle feeding, I breastfed my daughter til she was 6 months and that was in Nov 09, and I got my period in 2 weeks, and i tried to breastfeed my son but that didn't work out so well so I pumped and got my period about 2 months after.

i was one of those -- i had a C-section and i stopped bleeding at about 2 weeks, then bled again around 4 weeks for a few days (first day really heavily), and at 8 weeks started getting my period and been getting it every month like clockwork and i've been breastfeeding, at 4.5 months i was producing 40 oz of milk a day and still got my period, a heavy one too. that was horrible, i felt like someone sucked the energy right out of me through a straw.

it was different with each of my children with my first one i didn't have one again for 4 months and with my son it was about 2 months and with the last one i didn't stop bleeding for about 8 weeks and 2 weeks later started bleeding again so it's different for each person and each child
By the way i was reading over some of the other reply's and i just wanted to say I was breast feeding with each of my children and I still started so breast feeding may or may not stop you from getting your period just relax and it will come when your body is ready for it to

Oh, but I do know that in the 4 years before I had my daughter, I had a very heavy and painful period, every month that sometimes lasted 8-9 days. Now I just spot for anywhere between 5-7 days, which is really great! It could also have something to do with my form of birth control though, which is Marina. (I think that's how they spell it)

3 days afteri had my son and ill tell you to stock up on feminine supplies you never know! Just remember to keep track of your bleeding form labor and an actual period, its hard to tell unless its 2-6 weeks after! Good Luck :)

Bleeding for 3 weeks after giving birth is completely normal. All women do it and some last for 4 weeks. As for not having a period since September, well are you on birth control? I have had irregular periods my entire life and I have gone for 6 months without it before. No I wasn't pregnant. Were you irregular before your pregnancy? Some women just get messed up after wards. I was always irregular before and now for the first time in my life I am regular and I breast feed which is not typical for breast feeding moms. If you are real concerned I would go see ob-gyn although it is probably nothing. Good luck!
My daughter was born in the Begining of Feb and I didn't get mine till late May or early June but I did bleed for the first 6 weeks after I gave birth too. Mine wasn't too heavy because I had already started taking birth control before I got it for the first time.

When I had my son 5 years ago I bled for 6 full weeks afterward and then my first period was right the next month on time. With my Daughter who will be a year old in 12 days I did not get a period for almost a year after the birth.

My baby was born May 9th, 2009. During my healing process i bled for 6 straight weeks after birth, but still have not had a period, only occasional spotting. I am breastfeeding though, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

Usually breastfeeding moms don't get their period while still nursing, however I got it 2 months after he was born and I am nursing. It was a full 5 day heavy period and I seem to be pretty regular now. FYI when you are on your period and nursing it slows the production of your milk and also makes it taste funny. I have to supplement formula every month when I have it otherwise he wouldn't be getting all he needs from me.

Breastfeeding makes a big difference. Years ago when I had my boys ( now aged 28,26,24) breastfeeding was the cultural preference where I lived. I had no objection to that, and in fact, breastfeeding provided a special time for me and my babies. After giving birth to each boy, I did not have a period for about 15 months all due to the breastfeeding. It worked great for our family. All of my boys are 2 years and 2 months apart, spaced by Mother Nature.
I didn't stop bleeding. Contunued to spot bleed for about 6 months after I had her before having a proper period, then I had problems for about a year after. She was about 18 months old before it went back to normal. I haemorraged when I gave birth though, so I think that was the cause.

I had this same question since I was breastfeeding in the beginning..I had my baby on 10/19, bled for 4 1/2 weeks, stopped..bled for 3 days. .Then recently just really had a period this past week. My question is now, do they last like the did pre-pregnancy?
I had my daughter September 2nd... I had the postpartum bleeding for 6 weeks and then had my first period November 28th. My daughter is also strictly breastfed. Always remember that every mommy and child are different :) My girlfriend had her daughter 3 days after me and she still has yet to have a period.
I hope this helps! :)

I got mine about 6 or 7 weeks after I had my baby. It was HEAVY for about 4 days. I called my doctor because it was so bad, but he said to just take it easy until it lightened up. I've been normal (like before I was pregnant) since and my baby's 4 months old now.

***Just as a response. Hi Im a mom of 3 in Pace Fl... I felt i needed to INPUT HERE: I bled for almost 3 months after my last son, Macon (big Mac), was born. Im gonna explain because this is all under MOMS CIRCLE....
(I Bled, not everyday, but Id bleed for about 4-8 days then stop for only 2-5 days)
so my experience IS different, but also whilst preggo:
-I had an abnormal PAP ( had one before years ago and had to get a *colposcopy* where they take a chunk and check it out. I had Severe Dysplaysia, Cervical cancer. I was NOT preggo then so they did a LEEP and Laproscopy, BUT THEY COULDN'T DO THAT CUZ I WAS PREGGO AND ALL MY BIRTHS WERE HIGH RISK 4 PRETERM LABOR)-----So..
I actually HATE DRs/Offices/and Hospitals and get Anxiety Attacks while at them... so I never went BACK to my DR after he was born. I just waited and hoped Id be done bleeding soon, but maybe that was me having my period soon afterwards.
I dont know and didnt even look it up, but this has been my experience. MUCH ♥

well it also depends on if you are breast feeding if you are it could take longer for your period to start up.. i didnt start mine until 6 months after my daughter was born and the doctor told me it was normal in alot of woman to do that if they are breast feeding and if not it can not start anywhere from a month to 3 depending on the woman...

u will usually start getting them 4 - 6 weeks after u have finished bleeding from having bub, they can b heavy until u get back to ur normal cycle.
for example, i bled for 2 weeks after i had my daughter and i had my first period when she was 7 weeks old, the first 6 periods where heavy, i finally went back to normal periods when she was 14 mths old but with my son, i bled for 5 weeks then got my first period when he was nearly 11 weeks, hes now 11 mths and im back to normal already, each person and pregnancy is different, the time in which u get ur first period will differ from sum1 elses. they r most likely going to b irregular bcuz ur body has been put out of wack with a pregnancy and labour.
it really just depends on how ur body recuperates after having a child as to whether u get them sooner or irregular
i hope ive been sum help!! cheers!

im nursing exclusively and its been 15 and a half wks and still havent got mine yet.my dr said with nursing the average for when ur period returns is 4-6 mo after but could be sooner or longer...my friend had her friend had her baby 2 days after me and she got hers after 8 wks i think she was exclusively nursing till then but then started supplementing one bottle a day and i think it triggered her period.

My daughter was born at the end of July09. I bled for about 5 weeks after the delivery and then about 3 weeks after that, I had some light bleeding for about 4 days. I figured my period had come back, but I haven't had any other bleeding since then. I took a couple of pregnancy tests just to make sure I hadn't gotten pregnant again and they were all negative. I've been exclusively breastfeeding since my daughter was born, and so at this point I figure I just won't get one until probably after she is weened...and that is fine with me :-)
