How long did everyone wait to have intercourse after a vaginal delivery?

Hi there

The (general) waiting period is about 6weeks. But I think it id up to you as to when you feel comfortable. A friend of mine waited 3months before she even attempted having intercourse. I personally will wait for after 6weeks. I had a vacuum extraction with stitches and it has not healed completely. Untill it heals, no intercourse for us.

With regards to bleeding. You have to limit your activity. The more you move, the more you bleed. So I suggest that you take it easy and take each day slowly!

We waited maybe 2 1/2 weeks. I was done bleeding by 2 weeks though, and felt like I was ready. I don't think it really hurt, it was just a bit uncomfortable.

I only waited till i stopped bleeding, about 4 1/2 - 5 weeks, would of done it sooner if i wasnt bleeding. I also read on a birthing website that it can be good to have intercourse before your 6 week check up so if you have any problems you can discuss it with your doctor. i had a very easy labour though with no tears, it was a little uncomfortable at first but nothing too bad.

I waited til the whole 8 weeks so I knew that I was mostly healed up & the cramping went away. Just whenever your ready & arent hurting anymore.

i would wait as long as your doc says. they are the DOCTORS after all. none of us went to medical school. I say dont temp fate, and don't risk the damage you could do.

and ps after my 1st was born I remembered that sex was what got me into this mess in the 1st place (i hurt SO bad), I had NO desire to touch my hubby!!! LoL. I was like uh NO!

My fiance and I had intercourse 3 weeks after I gave birth to my daughter (as soon as I stopped bleeding). I didn't have any stitches and wasn't sore. Actually our first time after my delivery was fine. Don't worry and only do it when you feel ready.

i did at 5 weeks and it didnt hurt too bad, but my baby was smaller than most. just make sure you have lots of lube on hand.and good luck. stop if anything hurts

ok very embarrasing, I made him wear 2 condoms cause i was terrified of pregnancy so soon but i only waited 3 days. It did hurt but very little, the second time was about 4 days later. However i should add that i ws very lucky not to have gotten an infection. I have given birth 3 times and I never waited the whole 6 weeks. 4wks, 3 days, 3wks, Make your own choice but realize that my 3 days was tempting fate.

i waited until 6 weeks i had three internal stitches and bub was delivered with the help of a vacum after 12 hours, it didnt hurt at all i think i worried about it hurting for so long i convinced myself it would be painful but it wasnt. we just went slow for the first 2 times then after that all the nerves were gone.

i waited a month, it didnt hurt, if ur nervous your going to clamp up and it will hurt, plenty of foreplay and ul be fine, i had a big baby aswell need an eptisomy and vacum its all in the mind, good luck

We tried every couple of weeks starting at 6 weeks. But it hurt so bad. (I had a 10 lb. baby and tore so bad that it took a rectal surgeon over 2 hours to repair it). We were finally able to have sex 4 months after. I think it just depends on the person and how easy/hard the delivery was.

LOL!!! I waited 4 MONTHS, and it still hurt! It's going to be uncomfortable no matter when you do it, but the pain does go down if you wait a little longer (and the more you do it). I don't suggest waiting as long as I did, but I just didn't have any desire for sex. I would suggest waiting until your doctor gives you the okay, AND after you've been on birth control for a couple of weeks... unless you want to get pregnant again right away. Call your doc and see what he/she says... but definately wait until after you stop bleeding.

Good question, at my 4 week check up I was cleared to have sex again. We tried, but it hurt soooooooo bad that i made my husband stop. I too, was still bleeding well after my 6 week check up. So I talked to my hubby and told him how bad it was so we agreed to wait until 8 weeks. He went really slow for the first few times until I was more comfortable. I think it took to about 10-12 weeks for me to be completely comfortable with sex again. By then I had stopped bleeding, and my episiotomy was fully healed. Good luck and take it slow!

I waited 6 weeks and it was still painful, however, I ripped pretty bad. Also you should wait until you stop bleeding all together otherwise you are not fully healed inside.

I tried at four weeks . . .good luck! It hurt so bad!! I was very active and ready to get back into my normal swing of things, but six weeks ended up being when my husband and I could do it.
