Hi. I had my Mirena coil fitted July 2010, after being on the Pill and Implant since my daughters birth in May 2009.
My husband and I have recently been talking about giving her a little brother or sister, and have decided that we want to start trying this year. But have decided to put off having my Mirena Coil removed til May, as we want to move to a bigger house because where we are now is/would be far too small for us to extend our family.
I was wondering how long, on average, it takes to get pregnant after having the Mirena Coil removed?

i had the mirena and when i had it removed the doctor told me it would take at least a year to get pregnant...he couldnt be anymore wrong! i had it taken out in december, and found out i was 6 weeks pregnant in march! i would say dont take it out until you are 100% ready for another baby.

I had my Mirena removed yesterday, (easiest thing ever!), but am now bleeding heavily from the moment it came out. Does this count as my first cycle? Wondering when I would be able to conceive now that its out? I had the Mirena in for the full 5 years. I have 2 boys whose birthdays are in December anfd January and would like to have a summer baby!

I had my coil put in in oct 2011 and had it removed in feb 12 as me and my partner had decided to try for another baby. About 2 days after having it taken out I bled for a day. Me and my partner tried for the month but then came on around 33 days after the 1 day bleed.. We have again been trying and I even bought an ovulation kit to try and moniter when I was ovulating (this didn't even tell me the days) I am now 34 days days since my last period and no sign of coming not even had twinges or pains.. I have done 1 test and this has come back negative. I am confused on to how I am meant to know if I am pregnant or not or if my period is just late from the coil??? What is the expected time for periods to return to normal and ways to know when I am ovulating?? Also I have been feeling nausia but it has been in the night. I dont know what to expect as we didn't try for our last baby. I had the implant in my arm and had it take out due to complications an fell pregnant 2 months later. I hope it happens soon. Any advise anyone. Thanks x

Had my Coil removed today. Wasn't anywhere near as painful as I'd read it to be. Just felt like a mild period pain, and was over before I thought it had begun.

My Dr. cautioned me to get pregnant the following cycle because the hormones in the Mirena thin out the walls of your uterus - so while it is possible it also increases the risk of your uterus tearing or miscarriage. He said that it would be perfectly safe to TTC on the 3rd cycle.

I got my Mirena out in Oct. and I am still waiting for conception, but my friend got hers out and was pregnant before she even had a chance to have a period. So its different for everyone :) Good luck!

I had the Mirena in for 3 years and then had it removed because my boyfriend and i wanted to try to have another baby. I had it removed in September 2010 and in December 2010 I found out we were expecting. I had conceived in November and our second child (another girl) was born July 29, 2011. When my doctor removed it, he told mgr our could take up to 6 months before getting pregnant but as you can see it was less. Just anticipate that it can take as long as 6 months.

Thank you ladies. I appreciate the advice.
This might sound daft, and presumptious, but. I'm so excited at the thought of becoming a mum again, that I'm counting down the weeks to the beginning of May, so as I remember to make the appointment for as soon as they can fit me in.

Yes, Mirena is the exception. It has little to no hormones. It still depends on the person's body though...and whether or not the doctor had inserted it correctly in the first place.

Mirena doesn't have a lot of hormones.

I had mine removed October, had my period in November and got my positive pregnancy test in December. In fact, when my OB took it out, she told me that I could get pregnant that day. =)

It completely depends on the person and their body.
Some people are able to get pregnant right away.
Some people may not get pregnant for a year or so. The hormones from the Rx's can stay in your system for years.
Some people become sterile after using birth control hormones. A sad fact, but true.

I had read tons of stuff online that said you needed to wait and if you didn't you had a higher risk of losing baby and many people said (online) that it took months but my OB said if I didn't have any trouble with the first one I should not have trouble this time. I was very blessed : )

Ooo, I'm getting excited already, and I'm nowhere near being pregnant yet (probably being daft).

I hope it does happen pretty soon after, I'd love to have my 2nd in early 2013. Partly because I suffered PND with my daughter, and 1 of the tips for not risking suffering with a 2nd is to not have it's due date around the same time as the child you suffered it with (May).
I'd be happy if it took 6 months, too.
Thank you.

I also fell straight away but be aware it could take up to 6 months and still be normal! :) good luck with your babies!

Wow. All this information is very helpful and quite suprising. I didn't realise quite how fast I could get pregnant. Jessica, I am definitely ready to get pregnant. If it was a viable option, I'd make the appointment tomorrow to have my Coil taken out a.s.a.p. I am SO broody for another child. But, I'm also willing to leave it til May.

I removed mine on June 30th 2010, bled for 10 days, started tracking my cycle with Fertility Friend, ovulated July 27th, and got a positive pregnancy test on August 8th. So I wouldn't take it out until you are ready to be pregnant...

My cousin is a nurse, had hers removed and was pregnant within the week

They following cycle. So basically once you have a period after it being removed, you can get pregnant.
