i am a smoker and i'm still in the i want to quit but in denial when it comes to doing it, so i have every bit of respect for you girls quitting cos i know how hard it is.. can i be a bit of a hypercrit and point out that even if you smoke out side the house it still takes half an hour for all the smoke to dissipated meaning in that half an hour your kids are still breathing in your passive smoke which is itself should be enough to go that extra hour/ day without one...

I quit smoking when I found I was pregnant and I haven't looked back. I have moments where it sounds like such a good idea but then I actually smell a cigarette and my stomach rolls and my nose scrunches.

But prepared for how difficult the process of quitting smoking is and my best advice is to just quit. Don't cut back or anything just stop. And here is a piece of information I found out when I was pregnant that has really kept me from smoking: 3d hand smoke is more dangerous than any other kind. It refers to the toxins and smoke that cling to ones person/hair/clothing. When you hold your little girl or boy after smoking they breathe in all those chemicals that are hanging onto you so even if you don't smoke in the car or in the house you can still be seriously damaging your child's health.

Smoking anywhere can effect the kids. My ex doesn't smoke in his car or his house, but when my kids come back from there.... I can't open their bags unless I have the time to throw all their stuff immediately in the wash. I am highly sensitive to cigarette smoke and even their clean clothes are so saturated w/ it that I can not breathe...

Gabrielle, just for the record, smoking in a car with a child is NOT harmful because they are *not used to* the smoke, it is harmful because second hand smoke is harmful to their lungs, period. It's not about not being used to it. Did you know it is also harmful to them to smoke in the house? That is not a new revelation either. It's called passive smoking. If you only just discovered it is harmful, google it. Passive smoking kills people, and by smoking in a car or house with your children, that is what you are doing to them.



Kari, I gave up smoking 2 years ago and have never felt better. I don't even feel like smoking any more. I can't stand the smell of it. However, I won't lie, it wasn't easy at the time. I made several attempts to give up, none of which lasted longer than a few months. This time I used Champix (I think they call it Chantix in some places?) and it helped, but I think a BIG part of it is the desire to quit. You REALLY have to want to do it deep down. It's very much a psychological battle.

I smoke but recently found out from my boyfriend that smoking in the same car with your child is very harmful because they are not used to the smoke so they end up with issues such as coughing, stuffiness and others. He found out when his son got sick and the Dr. asked him if he smoked in the same car with them. As for quitting, I would like to and may even be at the point that I think I can so to answer your question, sure I will do it with you!

I'll admit it... I smoke... I've been trying to quit and have been doing quite well I must say. . . It is also my resolution to quit completely... LET'S DO IT!!! LOL
