I believe it is about 50 words by time they are 2, but not 100% sure on that. Each child will be different so I would say if they are close to 50 then they are good. If it is much less than 50 then I would talk to your doc. or have your local AEA do an evaluation to see if there might be an issue. For using sentences I think that comes with time. Some things that you could do to encourage sentence use is when your daughter askes for something have her say what she wants but saying please after and then a thank-you mommy after. Or you can say....say can I have the blue cup please, before giving her the cup....This will help with encouraging her to use sentences along with working on manners and learning colors or numbers or shapes. I would say between the age of 2-3 is when they really start to put those sentences together more and more.

From what I understand, 2 year olds should have a vocabulary of about 50 words. They should be beginning to combine 2 words to make a sentence, but that doesn't mean it will happen often. And all children develop differently. The most important thing is that she understands you. If she can follow directions, especially 2 step directions, she is doing great! Just keep talking her ear off, and wait patiently for her responses. Supply her with the words she can't find. Kids at this age develop so quickly. Just 3 months ago, my son had a very limited vocabulary, and spoke mostly in sign language. His vocab has improved immensely since then.
