I only pay 400 for the month but I lucked out and found a family member to help me out as I am a single mom and can't afford the 1200/month/child that the daycares in my area charge! The cost seems rather excessive to me but that is one of the downfalls that comes with being so far from alternative choices

I am a nanny for a family of two, and get paid $11 per hour. I also get to bring my baby with. - My husband and I have one sitter that we really like, besides family, and we pay her $10 an hour. You have to take into consideration the age of your sitter, and possibly their living situation. Our sitter is graduated from high school, and living on her own. Plus she is fantastic and we get along very well. I think that she is worth every penny.

I live in a small town with a couple different daycares and the one that my son is at is a daycare at a lady's house. She charges $1.80 an hour for babies up to 18 mos of age and 1.70 after 18mos

Well what I think is that you get paid 8.50 an hour to work at Mc Donalds lol and my daughter is a little more important to I go for 10 bucks an hour when I go out for the night....but nannies are different if its like a full time thing where I live they charge 30 bucks a day for daycare.

i read this yesterday and thought that $3 an hour was about right, untill I talked to my sister who is a college student and just got a new weekend (day) babysitting job. they are paying here $10.00 an hour and if there are any times that their other child is there they will give her another $5 an hour for each extra kid. HELLO? i think i need to find a weekend babysitting job for that rate, LOL

Sitters for us in this area are expensive-for some reason the high schoolers think they should be paid like a full-time nanny and want $10 or more an hour which I think is outrageous! They best I have been able to find is $7 an hour. I still think that is too much for 2 children (who generally are in bed for most of the time) but I have tried to offer less and can get no one to agree to that rate. So it's either pay more or no sitter. We have had family only watch the kids until recently but we'd like to give them a little bit of a break and have people we could call in a pinch.

alot of it depends on where u live--i live in a small town and the cost of living is lowww--i pay $60/week for 11 hrs a day. i am so blessed to have found a private sitter b/c i am saving about $50 a week by not having to go to daycare. ask people u know who have kids to see how much they pay for child care and if they have any recommendations on a daycare/sitter/nanny. if you do go to a daycare make sure u take a tour and pay attention to the ratio of workers versus kids. good luck

I watch kids from home. I charge $150 a week, monday thru friday, 7am-5pm. So really I am only making $3 an hour/child.

The going rate in Ontario Canada is roughly as follows:

-Outside Home Daycare for a full 8+ hour day is $30-$35/day for one child and $50 for 2 children (inludes meals & activities)

-In your own home: 8+hour day is usually $30/day for one child and $45-$50 for 2 children

-Hourly is usually $2.50-$3.00 per child or $5+ for 2 children

These rates were based on what child care providers in my area were charging in February of 2008. Hope this helps! Good luck in your search!

I come from a small town, which makes a big difference. I pay a little over $2.00/hour for my six month old. my sitter is a stay at home mom with 6 kids of her own. She homeschools her kids and is a christian. I am very thankful for her! She understands money doesn't grow on trees. On the otherhand my sister who lives in the city pays about $5-10/hour/kid. Good luck!

We pay about $2.50 per kid per hour or $5 an hour. I also have an infant that requires a little more work. I don't really know what the rates are and was kind of wondering if it was too high or not high enough.

I'm curious too...I've never had a sitter...only family members have watched my daughter a handful of times. I'm not sure what the rates are like now.
