How much should I pay for babysitting?

I am starting a full time job and found a babysitter. She seems Great! We have had play dates so my daughters can get to know her. She will be babysitting my 9 month old monday-friday from 7:20am until 5pm and then my 4 and 5 year old on fridays only from 7:20am until 5pm. We have talked prices but she is so relaxed about it she keeps saying "whatever you feel comfortable paying" or "what ever works for you" So this is my first time getting child care for my girls so I would like some advice as to what I should be paying.

I am a nanny and I make $15.00 an hour. They pay for my medical and dental insurance as well as half of my gas. I get PTO and full paid time when they go on vacations. I would go to care.com and search your zip code for care; see what nanny's and babysitters in your area are asking for and use that as a jumping off point to an set amount.

I charged $10/hour for one or two kids when I was a part time nanny. Her previous nanny charged $12-14/hour depending on if there was one kid that day or two... so I probably could've gotten a little more.

I agree with some of the other posts. It depends on the age of the babysitter and what you expect her to do. I pay $10 an hour during the day for my 2&5 year olds and $15 an hour in the evening. Sometimes I will pay a flat $40 for "date night" and that covers the whole evening. The flat rate works great for occasional sitters when you aren't sure what time you will be back.

For daily childcare, I would suggest a weekly or daily flat rate. For a suggested rate, it depends on the area as well. Find out what other moms near you pay and then add a few dollars after you decide the sitter fits well. A flat rate is easy to remember, easy to establish a routine and what to expect. I would also suggest writing a list of things you need the sitter to do (even if you think it's obvious) and a written out routine you want your child to follow. No questions then on what she needs to do and what you expect your child to be doing. A list of their favorites, what they don't like or can't do is helpful as well.

It really depends on what the girl is going to do for you. If she is young (living with parents 14-18) and just playing with the kids, picking up after their messes and feeding them something you have prepared you should pay something like minimum wage (around $6 to 7 per hour). If she is a professional and is doing more you would pay more.

Paying her isnt a problem at all. Im am just confused as what an hourly or whatever rate would be. This is my first time having any of my girls in child care. I have always been a stay at home mommy.

first, we can never put a value on our kids, if you are not paying out of your pocket, and you want top quality childcare, the you should pay her top quality pay, after all you pay for what you get, now if you can not afford to pay her at least let her know that up front, just pretend the show was on the other foot, what would you want to be paid?
