A more controlled study should be conducted to actually prove age as a factor.

Well when half of women over 35 have fertility issues, no wonder they have an increase in birth defects. They need help conceiving so turn to medical assistance. I think the studies proving age is a factor are flawed because they don't take into consideration all of the medical procedures these women undergo and drugs involved. All variables are not controlled therefore those stats are not accurate.

It's not only because of the increased use of fertility drugs. Although, that does increase the chance of birth defects, multiples, ect... It's been clinically/scientifically shown that older women have increased risk of birth defects. You can read about it in any anatomy and physiology or maternity nursing textbook. Those are really informative.

do you think that may have something to do with the increase use of fertility drugs for women over 35? Not the fact that they are older, but that they are using drugs to conceive.

The incidence of birth defects increases dramatically at 35 and increase significantly every year after that. I'm not talking just a cleft lip. I'm talking mental retardation, missing/extra chromosomes which lead to gender issues.

If your rendered infertile because of menopause...then THAT is too old.

LOl @ 35. Crap. I had my youngest at 36. 35 isn't TOO old at all. Your fertility will decrease from approximately age 35 (everyone is different). Complications increase at that age, but it is still perfectly safe.

I think I would have to say 30-35 depending on health. I know a friend of mine was 40 and had no problems. Then again i'm not a good person to ask. I had all my kids before 25 and dont plan on having anymore.

Well... in my opinion i would say 35. Also having a baby in your upper 30's is risky
