Hello!

My son is seven months old. He doesn't sit up by himself, only does the tri-pod thing when I put him in a sitting position.

He is almost crawling, rocking back and forth while on his hands and knees. He also has said his first word (Mama) and says it often.

I try not to compare him to other babies as I know everyone is different, but I am just wondering when your baby was able to sit up unassisted?

Thank you for any and all input! :)

My daughter started sitting up unassisted at 6 months, and was able to get into a seated position alone shortly before she started crawling, which happened at 7 months., and now at 7 1/2 months, is already pulling up to standing! But still not talking, just babbling. Every baby is different, and I think people put too much emphasis on milestones.

Mine started at 5, almost 6 months. If you are really worried about it, try sitting him in a bumbo chair. I borrowed one from a friend, and it really helped him to sit up on his own in just a week or two.

My daughter is 5 months and she just started stitting on her own...though she still face-plants often! Just don't worry, I mean like everyone else has said different babies develop differently!

My little girl is seven months and has been sitting well for a few months but had to hold her bottom half for balance. But now she is doing great on her own. I was upset because a friend of mine, her little boy has been rolling over since 3 months and sitting up for months and now nearly crawling. But I have exepted that all babies are different, lol.

My son started to try to sit up on his own at about 3 months, but just recently at about 5 or 6 months has he been able to really sit up on his own. He still needs me to put him in the sitting position, but he can hold himself up now. If he falls over he hasn't been able to push himself back up, but he's getting there and even getting in the crawling stance now.

My wee girl was about 7 months when sitting up by herself. I found her 'Swirling gumball machine" to be a huge help with her sitting.. maybe this or a toy similar would be of some benefit just to encourage it if you're that worried :)

my son was 5 and 1/2 months when he first sat unassisted and crawled at 7 and 1/2. he is 9 months on the 4thnov and he stands without holding anything for a few seconds so i think he's close to walking.

My son is 10 months now. He just started sitting up by himself when he's 9 months. And yes, every baby is different. Don't worry, his time will come.

My two girls, are only just starting to get the hang of sitting up and they are 8 mnths old, and as for crawling, they have got a while to go yet. Every baby is diff and does things in their own time and at their own pace, if your son is not sitting up by the time he is 1 then I would go see your health visitor, but til then, sit back, relax and enjoy your son growing up x

Ha...I told myself since my son isn't crawling yet that MAYBE he won't be like his daddy who walked at eight months...hehe.

Actually (and people think I'm crazy for thinking this) I am excited for my son to start moving...I get a little bored sometimes when he doesn't want to play all day so I am looking forward to chasing him. Might help with losing more baby weight! ;)

My son has been late on almost every "milestone"... except sitting and walking. He sat at 4 months, and walked at 8 months! He's 2 now, and has just started using "real" words (only a few) about 6 months ago. Now I can't shut him up or get him to sit! Don't worry. Every child has things that they are "late" on (I absolutely hate that term). He sounds like he's almost ready, though! Good luck, and I bet it will happen soon!

my girl was 5.5months when she sat up well byherself but... she is now almost 12months (next week she turns 1) and she still dosnt crawl... so they def do things at there own pace!!! also a friends baby is 2 weeks older than mine and he is crawling standing alone and so so close to walking alone but cant sit alone... even his childcare centre said this is out of the ordinary! but he is a normal we ajusted little boy just wanted to do everything else first... :o)

I'd agree about babies focusing on one milestone instead of another. My son was sitting unassisted at 4 months, but didn't even try to crawl until he was 8 1/2 months.

I think that sometimes us Mom's tend to read too many of those parenting books LOL! :) Every baby is different. Your son will sit up when he is ready to. Don't worry :)

I think those child development books cause most of my worry... It makes sense that he is working on one thing at a time, and since crawling seems to be more interesting at the moment, I am hoping once he gets that down, sitting up without me will be next!

My daughter tries to say "mama" but she just sounds like a broken record so she just keeps saying ma ma ma ma. But she can pretty much sit on her own and crawl... and she's 7 months so some babies just work differently.

My son didn't sit up until he was 9 months old!!!! Weird thing is that he could stand, crawl and walk when holding 2 fingers but could not for the life of him sit!! Babies concentrate on one new skill at a time so since he almost crawls and talks I don't think it's anything to worry about! Check with your ped it helps you be less worried.

My little boy started setting up at 6 months, but I know lots of babies that don't seit up until 8 months. So I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just work with him and help him to strengthen his back.

Yep like Eliena said you can't compare one baby to another. I was worried also , my son wouldn't sit up until he was about 8 mos. old. Just help him and be encouraging also don't get discouraged. He will do it when he's ready.

My son started sitting up a tabout 6 months, but like Eliena said, every baby is different. Don't think there's anything wrong with your son because he is not sitting up completely yet. He will very very soon. And then he will crawl and then walk and you will not be able to rest anymore....lol. Just love him and have fun because they grown up way too fast. My son will be 7 this sat. and I can remember the day he was born like it was yesterday. Good luck!!

You can't really compare any baby to another. My daughter is almost 8 months and she didn't start sitting up fully on her own until she was almost 7 months. It seemed as crawling coincided with it. I am jealous though because my daughter still hasn't said her first word yet. She makes sounds but no full word. Don't worry. I have another friend who her baby didn't start sitting up until they were I think close to 9 months. As long as their learning and trying and you encourage them to do great, they'll be fine and you'll be a great mom for always being there and giving great encouragement!
