How soon is too soon to take a pregnancy test?

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant with our second child. We started trying within just a couple days of when my period was due, and it is 5 days late, but it is a couple days late sometimes. I have IC, ( a bladder condition) and I will have to go about things differently with this pregnancy, so I would like to find out at soon as I can, but I don't know how soon it would show up on a pregnancy test. The tests are a tad pricey and I don't want to buy any more than I have to.

Thanks! I'm not really concerned about not being pregnant because we had originally planned on waiting till Sept before trying anyway, but as they say... The rest is history! LOL So, even if I'm not now, it's not gonna be too disappointing, I'd just rather know for sure because of the medical condition! Thank you so much for your comments they were both very helpful!

Sorry but you may not be. when your period starts again count that as day 1 (the very 1st day,even if it's at night). Than count.. up until you get your period again. Most people avg. out about even 28 days or so. So after you get your count down, find your middle date. For example: in middle day for 28 days is 14. So the next time you get your period (after you get your count down, this can take up to 2-3 months) (or you might be able to figure it out if you kept track of your pass periods) the middle day of counting untill you get it again..is when you are most feritle. I hoped that you can understand what I'm trying to say. Having sex right before your period is due is not going to work, the egg has already release long before you get your next period. You want to try when your egg has just released. I have 3 children, and with the 2 youngest, I used this method and got pregnant right away. Good Luck.

There are tests out there that come two in a package, like EPT, or first response. Most tests can detect up to 5 days before your missed period, so I would say its safe to take one now since you are already 5 days late. If you want to save some money i'd go for the two for one boxes, they are usually the same price as just one. That way if it doesn't come up positive, you can wait a few more days and take the 2nd one. Mornings are the best time to take them
