Hi everyone, I'm a new member here as well as a mom!! Everything is like new world to me after my son was born. I love him so much. Just one cry and i will jump right off the bed running to him. Today, my son is 25 days old. He got his circumcision this afternoon. Didn't even cry. I thought he's okay. But when i changed his diaper, i was so horrified. I never thought the wound would be this bad. Just look at it enough to make me cry. I have to ask his dad to do it. He cries when we put ointment in it. Is there any ways i can help to make him feel better?!Please help me!!

My boys are circumcised. Did the doctor that performed the circumcision give you a paper telling you how to provide aftercare? Usually they tell you to put some vaseline with loads of polysporin and change diapers often. It's normal for him to get upset when you are changing him because the area is sensitive and it needs to heal.

Hi Kaitlin, we wanted to do it right after my son was born. However, the doc said we must come back 3 weeks after to do my check-up and my son's circumcision. Anyway, we use wipes every time we change his diapers and avoid touching the top of his penis. Then we use Q-tip to put ointment on. The top is red, doesn't have any smells. He's a little hot to me, but my mom and husband said he's fine. I think he cries because it hurts when he pees. The doc said he will be fine after 2-3 days. All i can do is putting the ointment. But to be honest, I'm not sure i believe her much. When i was still pregnant, we felt something wrong whole time, told her about it, still she said everything was normal. Then i ended up on the C-section table. So this time, i really want another opinions.

hmmmm. My sons got circ'd at birth and while they cried then, they did not after during changes or putting ointment on it. Are you using wipes on him or powder(could irritate- if you must try a warm, damp paper towel instead of baby wipes, no powder)? Does it seem infected (pus, smell)? What did your pediatrician tell you to expect?

You can try a nice warm bath (with or without baking soda, but no soap) and let him soak a while. We would use a mixing bowl from our kitchen, fill it with warm water and a tablespoon or so of baking soda, and hold him in there (so he's sitting, but his top half is dry) and let them soak for 5-10 min when they had diaper rashes that broke skin. It can be very soothing.

You can also try a tag team with his dad- you nurse or feed him and let him change and ointment his penis.

Good luck, it does get better!
