my 7month old son wont fall asleep till 1am!!! he cries and rolls around and sits up while rubbing his eyes so i know he's tired! but for some reason he fights it so bad! it's even hard to get him to nap during the day. I've tried turning off all the lights and tv and just making him lay there in the dark for hours.... he still wont fall asleep. any tips?

Believe it or not , I recently went through the same thing with my 2 year old. He would not go to bed at night, even though we knew he was so tired he was ready to fall over. We picked a time 10:30pm. At that time, we went in , gave him a bath, brought him into the bedroom, dried him off, dressed him, talked in low tones and kept just one small light on, and we don't play with him. If he gets giggly, we tell him that we need to be very quiet because it's time for bed. We lay him down, read him aa couple of books, and he's out like a light. I don't know if it will work for a baby that small or not, but I know it has sure saved our lives! Does he nap good, because it almost sounds like he may be getting overtired. That's not fun to deal with. When that happens, it's almost lke their bodies forget how to go to sleep. Maybe you could try rocking him, or even a baby swing. I've done both with my little guy! Or, it may just be a phase. I have learned, tis too shall pass! LOL I know it's hard to deal with though!

Wow, that's dedication on his part. The biggest thing is to make him not want to be awake. If he knows there is no chance of you coming in and picking him up then he will sleep. Maybe he's insecure? Try going in his room and rubbing his back as he falls asleep. Don't pick him up, just be there in his dark room. I'll bet he will be asleep within 15 mins. Also, a warm bath helps to relax him and mentally prepare him for bed. You don't have to wash his hair every night just get him in the warm water, maybe a song or a nursery rhyme, and if hes bottle feeding then make him a nice big bottle. I always say theyre no match for a quiet dark room, a full tummy and a clean diaper :)

If he doesnt sleep during the day its probably because he is overstimulated, and his excitement carries on into the nighttime..he probably wont sleep because hes overtired..in the daytime, talk very softly to him, dont use sudden movements, keep him away from brightly coloured toys, play soothing music all day, and have him wear a hat with a brim so his peripheral vision is blocked....dont talk to him at all when you want him to go to sleep and for an hour before. My daughter had the same problem and this is what I did for her...now she takes 3 naps in the day and sleeps very well at night.....she does go to bed at about midnight but that is just the time she wants to go to bed...I kinda let her make her own schedule. I figure midnight is better than 5am, which is the time she kept me up until before I did all this!!!
