My daughter is only 4 months old and i just wanting to prepare my self when she gets to be 6 months. I am seeing the sippy cups for 6 months and up and I will be new to the 6 month old stage since my first born never got to the age. I am really confused when it comes to this and is looking for some help. I am just wondering how do you introduce the sippy cup and do you stop using the bottle as well??

My daughter was a year once she showed that she could hold the handles on her cup.. And the doctor said she didnt need that much milk anymore we  just took the bottles away and gave her water all day and for breakfast and dinner give her milk... She did great and replace the other intake with yougart and cheese... I hope this helps

Hi Stacey! For both of my kids the sippy cup never held formula, I always gave them juice or water in their sippy cup, about 3 to 4 ounces at a time. I think your daughter will love the idea of a new object to put in her mouth, and once she tastes something different in it that she likes she will be "hooked". As for the bottle, it was one week of terror. I talked to both of my kids about "losing" the bottle and at their first birthday we packed them in a box and said good-bye. My daughter had a very hard first week, but hold your ground and you will be so grateful later! Best of luck to you! You'll do great!

When I started my daughter on her sippy I couldn't get her to "suck" she just wanted to bite it and chew on it. So when I was giving her a bottle I would sneak in the sippy every once in a while and she figured out that you suck instead of bite. I only put juice in her sippy and leave the milk in the bottle. But thats just us. Good luck.

The nuby is probably the best sippy cup every its so much like a bottle the transition was so easy for my daughter shes 14 months now but we handed her the cup at 10 months and she never wanted a bottle again. I would definatly recommend it to anyone

i started my little boy on sippy cups for water from 2 months (very hot summer and he enjoyed the cool water) if you dont mind mess just let them play with it and they will soon figure out what it is for

I also recommend NUBY. The Gerber soft spouts with handles are also good too. We started with juice or water in the sippy at 6 months. If your baby can hold their bottle then it won't take them too long to figure out the sippy. We didn't put formula in the sippy until we were weaning from the bottle and formula (at the same time) at 11 months. You can use the bottle and sippy simulatneously. We always gave our daughter her bottle after a solid food meal and usually for her "snack time bottle" (afternoon bottle only, no solids) we would sometimes give her juice in a sippy instead. Also if you get the kind where the nipple comes out of the circle twist on thing (like a bottle) be careful when she gets to be about 9 months because she will figure out how to pull the nipple off and spill everything out. Everything's a learning experience with first borns, but you get the hang of it pretty quickly.

When my kids got to be around six months and I started to feed them baby food, I would give them the sippy cup just during meal time. They got used to the cup and silverware and everything all at once. I also did what Leron did. When they turned one, I put milk just in the sippy cup and water in the bottle. The transitions was really easy for us.

my  oldest daughter didn't start using sippy cups untile she was about 11 months old and when she started  we took the bottles away because she was starting the big girl stage.

we didn't start our son until he was a year old. He didn't show interest in the sippy cup and was really attached to his bottle.   At that point we put water in his bottle and milk in the sippy. The transition was really easy and stressless because we waited until he was ready.

Try the sippy cups by NUBY, they have a soft spout and are easy for little hands to hold. They are also really affordable, you can find them at Wal-Mart for under $2 a piece

when i started mine on a sippy cup, i just started with maybe 3 ounces of formula in the cup until she got use to drinking out of it. it's been about a month and a half and she still doesn't quite have the hang of it, but is now drinking about 3 and a half to 4 ounces out of it per sitting. she gets her cup when she eats "real food" and still gets her 8 ounce bottle when she wakes up and maybe one in the afternoon if she seems like she needs it. i hope that helps!
