I personally found that 'big boy pants/ pull up nappies' didn't help my son at all. My son was 2 and a half when I started training him too. I let him run around without any pants on (it was summer and i found he had better control if nothing was on, on his bottom half.) and take him to sit on his toilet seat every 30 - 60 mins. In the beginning i'd give him a match box car for sitting on the toilet without fussing. Then as he got used to it, only gave him a car (as well as lots of praise, hugs and kisses) when he used the toilet. He had quite a few accidents before getting the timing right. I didn't make a big deal about it though. Just told him it was ok and that next time we'll get to the toilet. It took a week of this then something just clicked and he was taking himself to the toilet!

Hi I took my son shopping with me to buy big boy pants and chose a potty, evry morning and before bedtime we would sit him on the potty to get him used to it after a week we ditched the nappies and went straight to pants. I used to allow him to run about with no trousers on whilst at home and just keep asking him if he needed to go.

I also used sweets as an insentive to use it just one smartie or jelly baby when he did something. I also know mums that have used star charts or stickers.

Also might be worth getting a childs story about using the potty there are lots of good ones about. Also try and choose a time when there are not big events about to happen as that might make him go backwards. But good luck x

But be prepared there will be accidents. make sure you have plenty of spare pants and trousers, a bucket is always usful for soaking the clothes, also 2 potties one for up and down, towels and plastic bag work well on highchairs pushchairs ect.
