I have starting getting random pains in my vagina about a week or two after I had the Mirena put in. My 4 week check for it was suppose to be Dec. 17th, but I'm have a gallbladder surgery and had to reschedule it for January 5th, since they lost 2 doctors. What should I do? If's very uncomfortable when I feel the pain. I don't want to have sex, in fear that it's in the wrong place and that it'll cause more pain. People say it's rare to fall out or become misplaced, but I think I'm just making myself nervous. Just not sure what to do... Any ideas?

blah!! i was hopping i was just siking myself out about the pains and uncomfortableness that it was causing. I was told that the bleeding could last for some time and that I could possibly end up cramping worse during my cycle. I randomly cramp, but it doesn't last to long and I can deal with it. I was told I'd be losing my insurance in January, which is why I went with the Mirena so I wouldn't have to worry about pocket paying for birth control and I also wouldn't have to worry about remembering the pill, which is how my son came along. :) Any ideas?

i myself have the insurance problem, but, i found out, if you decide to go with the patch, the shot, whatever, the health department will actually help out! they have the "slidinbg scale" payment deal.. if you dont work, and no ins, then you pay 2 bucks for 1 yr supply of pills here in florida, it all depends on where you are though! check with your local HD and see if they have the same set up!

I had my mirena places in june, after the birth of my son in may... i also had my gallbladder removed in 2006.... anyuhow, i started feeling the "sticking" pain, kind of similar to the very small "braxton- hicks". I waited for 3 months, and bled the ENTIRE time, mind you, and i finally got fed up, and i went to the doctor, and go figure, the darn thing did fall out! mine was sitting right on top of the opening to my birth canal, which is why it hurt so bad! My suggestion is, go to the doc asap! if it sits there to long, it can pierce your uterine wall, and cause A LOT of damage! It can also give you some serious infections! And DO NOT have sex until this is removed and the doc has checked for tears in your uterine wall!!! Believe me when i tell you, it makes the pain excrusiating(sp)! Good luck to you!

I want to say how helpful this has been... Mine is feeling similar and I am going to call my doctor asap tomorrow... I've been bleeding off and on since it was put in about 3 weeks ago, and I have the off and on pain in my lower abdomen as well... :( I thought maybe my body was rejecting it, but now I realize that it CAN fall out... *sigh*... Here we go again... oh and, another question... My boyfriend felt the strings that they were supposed to cut when it was placed... Are you supposed to feel those? Are they going to be there for the full 5 years? Cause I wasn't told about that... :(

yes, he would be able to feel the strings... the string is literally "fishing line"! it takes about 3 to 5 months for them to "soften up" as my doc put it! very normal, but it can be a very unpleasant feeling also!!

no, because the strings are only like an inch long.....the whole little mirena is only an inch and a half long, plus the 1 inch string! my doc told me, if i couldnt get in to see her, to go to the emergency room, and have them remove it, because it can cause the really bad infections and tears!
