Do you have any other symptoms? Do you have sharp pains on your back also? I had horrible upper abdominal pain, which was sometimes accompanied by very sharp pain in between my shoulder blades. I went to the ER twice for this (once at 14 weeks, once at 26 weeks). Finally, it was determined that I had gallstones. Unfortunately, I was in so much pain and not gaining enough weight, that by 28 weeks, I had to have my gallbladder removed! That solved the problem and I was able to carry my daughter to 39 weeks! Lesson learned: be proactive about your health, especially when you are pregnant! Initially, ER physicians and my OBs blew off my condition. I was always sent home, given pain meds, and told that I would be fine. I found one particular OB at my practice who took my complaints more seriously and found me a surgeon to speak with. 30 weeks is the cut off for most surgeons to perform procedures like thus. If I hadn't kept insisting that something was wrong, I would most likely had to of been delivered much earlier. Besides, the original diagnoses grossly underestimated my condition. I had MANY gallstones and one was sitting right at the entrance to my bile duct. If it had tried to pass, most likely it would have become lodged, inflaming my duct and causing sepsis! Good luck to you...I hope that everything will be fine. Don't let others convince you that your pain isn't real. Even if its not serious, its seriously bothering you!!
