We started going to the pool with our son when he was 3 months old. He loved it! They are such things as water slings like this one, http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=35...!/pages/Bitty-Bear-Baby-Boutique/124529740913371?v=app_135607783795, that will help her get use to the water and allow you to relax a little bit. Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and a nice cool place too go after 20 minutes outside.

My daughter is 4 months old and she has been swimming probably about 5 times now. We started taking her about a month ago. We bought an infant float at Wal-Mart that has a canopy on it, so it keeps her completely in the shade. We live in Texas, so it is really hot here too. She loves the water and just hangs out every time we go swimming! We are actually going to do Mommy & Me swim lessons when she turns 6 months old because there is an indoor pool in our town that does them. Get your child started now so they are comfortable in the water!!

any time is a good time to get them use to water. I started my son in his early months and he adores the beach and pools now. just be extra safe with sunscreen, hat and shirt. never try to lay them slightly on their back tho. if the water is too cold for you it will be 10 times worse for them and you have no hope of getting them in there and enjoying it.

maybe start at home with a pool big enough for the two of you with slightly warm water to get her use to it first.

thank you all! i was just worried if it could cause harm to her for some reason. and yeah she loves bath time though. but i put her tippy toes in the pool and she didnt like it but im thinking that it was just that she didnt expect it is all. im taking her swimming on the 5th and trying again though so wish me luck! and thank you.

It used to be advised that you should not use sunscreen on babies less than six months old, but the American Academy of Pediatrics now states that sunscreen is probably safe to use on younger children, especially if you just use it on small areas of your baby's skin that is exposed to the sun and not protected by clothing, such as the infant's hands and face.

Still, younger children should be kept out of direct sunlight because they can burn easily and may not be able to handle getting overheated as well as older children. So even though it is likely safe to use sunscreen on kids less than six months old, it is safer to keep them out of the sun.


And as for your question about the pool. Just take her! I took mine at about 3 months old, the only thing is the smallest size of baby swimmers I could find was from 16 pounds and up.

Just hold her above the water, wet her feet at first, then just slowly lower her in further. If she hates it, u will know soon enough! But have fun with it!

Ask your pediatrician about sunscreen. It's not recommended for baby's under 6 months so you will need to keep her in the shade if you can't use sunscreen.

does she like taking a bath? if she does then she might like being in the pool a little bit. just make sure you have the sunscreen on. nothing worse than a baby with a sunburn. *shivers* just make sure you don't get her ears wet so she doesn't get an ear infection.

There is not a age when you can take your child into a pool. Just make sure you put lots of sun screen on her. I know i wish i would of started the pool thing with my son a lot sooner, he is 21 months now and doesnt like going into a pool.
