Im a nurse and have actually had patients with swine flu. Granted they had been treated but its out there. I normally dont get the regular flu shot for me or my daughter. But I DID get her the swine flu last month. no reactions at all. ANYTHING you give your child could give you a reaction or could kill them. Every vaccine out there has killed at least one person. But I feel, if I worry about everything thats going to kill my child, she will live in a bubble the rest of her life. I felt it was safer for her to get this particular vaccine than to not give it to her.

cdc.gov has all of the up to date information regarding both the swine and regular flu. there is great information about the vaccine including the risks and benefits. you can look at statistics specific to your area and so forth. i encourage you to check it out before you make a decision. there are alot of misconceptions out there about this flu!

we did not get vacinated because the vacine was not avalible in our area until about a week ago. but Both of my babies and i got it and it really wasnt that bad. a little congestion and we were tired. maybe a little fever. the only way we knew that we had it was because i went to the doctor for congestion meds. and he tested us and we had it. i have had head colds that were worse.

Oh and myself my husband nor my son had ANY reaction to the shot. My husband had a sore arm for one day and that was it. People who say the regular flu is more harmful then the swine flu didn't do enough research becuase it clearly states that the number are almost the exact same...but in my area i have not heard of anyone with the regular flu this season...they are saying that the swine flu might be this years flu strain adn to expect it to change every year. The regular flu already does change forms every year and it has not been seen, here anyways. Look in to your local area to get stats on both flus to make an informed decission for yuo and your family and consult your Dr. We contacted over a dozen Dr's and peditricians before finalizing our decission. I just caleld offices to see what they were telling their patients and i had one tell me not to get it out of 14...

This is my story...

My son is 2yrs old. I am a stay at home mom and at the time of these events i did childcare in my home for a 2yr old boy his 4yr old sister, who was in preschool and a 16 month old girl from another family. We also have a 5 month old daughter. About 2 months ago now our son came down with a cold and had it for about a week. (The brother adn sister i watched were always coming to my home with some form of cold.) The 2nd day our son seemed to be over the cold he started to scream at the top of his lungs. Rigth before he started doing this he was running around and acting like himself again. It was around supper time so we figured he was jsut hungry and was anxious to eat. Around 7pm I left teh hosue to take a book back to the library and when i came home my husband said he gave our son his bath and he was shaking uncontrolably the whole time. I took his temperature and it was 104.3! So my husband took him to the emergency room while i stayed home with our daughter. My husband came home about 2 hours later and informed me that the Dr on said it was jsut a cold adn to give him Tylenol and it will go away in a day or 2. Well 2 day later it was still 104.7 so this time I went back and I demanded an X-ray and said i wasn't leaving without one. 30 minutes later her was diagnoised wtih H1N1 and pnemonia...2 weeks later we were waiting in line for our H1N1 shots and I don't regret a thing. The clinics were only open for about a week when we got our shots and if they were open before that I would have gotten the shot earlier. My daughter is still too young to get the shot but will be next month when she is of age.

Now due to the kids i watch that were always coming in sick i broguth up the shot to the parents at which point they informed me they don't believe in immunizations so would not be gettign the vaccine either...now when i say immunizations i mean all the shots babies get from birth on from your family Dr. I was very disturbed by this as i had a new born in my home and they did not inform me of this information so i requested they keep their kids home when sick. To make a long story short the mother adn myself had some uneasy words ith eachother as she thought i was forcing her to get her kids dine which isn't the case. I jsut wanted her kids be kept home when they were sick as her 4yr old was goingt o school adn they also have a 9yr old in school fulltime so it would be very easy for my kids to catch soemthing in between. I no longer watch any kids and wont until my daughter gets the shot.

It is a very hard decission to make by far and i think every parent needs to make the right choice for their family and this was the right one for ours. To put it in perspective I thought to myself, If my kids were to die from this would i be able to live with myself knowing there was something out there to prevent it and of course the answer is no.

No one should feel pressure to get their kids and themselves done.

The events that lead up to us getting the shot were by far the scariest for me and i was never so mad at a Dr in my life for having the opportunity of catching it sooner but failed to do any testing.

If your kids are sick and you know there is soemthing wrong, then stand up to the Dr. No one can tell you what is normal for YOUR child no matter how many kids they see in ther un of a day, you see your kids everyday and know them best.

I wish everyone the best of luck during all flu seasons and i hope we all come out safe on the other side.

I will definatly NOT be getting the shot for my son nor for myself. I have done some research on this shot and I have found that the CEDC does not reccommend the shot nor do they know the effectiveness and saftey of the shot. Plus the shot has is made basically the same way as the flu shot, it's just another variation. Also, there are various medals in the shot including mercury and I don't fell that I should put that in my or my son's body. We are healthy and eat right and will be fine. It's more of a scare. Yes it is out there, but there's other things you can do to protect yourself. I do not believe in injecting myself or my son with the virus. Hope this helps. Happy holiday's!!

this is going to sound really crazy but my daughters father thinks that they are jus trying to scared us and that the shot has some type of chip in it so that the government can watch us. .....i really dont like giving my daughter meds, also i dont know any body, who has had swin ful so i think this is one of those things that ill jus pass on,i also though that people where dieing for the shot, i say no but then again that is just me and my daughter(daughte 2 months n not in school) if ur child goes to school then i would really think about it all the things thats passed around by kids in school.

no. its more rosky to have them vaccinated fot it then to actually get it. the swine flu is less dangerous then the regualr flu.
