IMPLANON Birth Control?!

Implanon can be wonderful, then again... I have had mine for 4 years, (1 year expired *oops*) Up till now it's been great, but recently I started missing periods and thought I might be pregnant. I'm not ready for another yet but fiancé was excited about the possibility. Anyway, I went to my OB with these concerns and he all but laughed me out of there and refused to give me an ultrasound (it's been almost 3 months since I had a period! and I am usually VERY regular - even on Implanon) The same day I decided to go to the ER to find out what the heck was going on, turns out I have a cyst (a type that can occasionally cause a faint positive on home preg tests). I now have to deal with a sulking fiancé, and concerns about the cyst rupturing. Implanon -like all progestin only birth controls - can cause cysts. WHICH I WAS NOT INFORMED OF! HOWEVER! I am going to go back for a replacement because estrogen/progesterone birth controls can have MORE complications, and aside from a small benign cyst which will go away on it's own, I have NEVER had problems with Implanon. btw, only 52 of 2,406 women on Implanon reported cysts. So I guess I'm one of the lucky few, and it could be because I let it expire in the first place that I had this complication. I'm sure you have already made your decision by now about bc, but I came across this post on google when I was looking for similar stories, and figure it might be helpful for someone else who comes across it.

I would never recommend it. I had non stop bleeding when I first put it for 6 months. Then I had regular cycles for a year n a half n then 6 months of hormone instability .

I had an Implanon in for just over a year. I hated it. For the whole time I had it in I did not stop having a light period. It was terrible.

I'm gonna have to break your pro-life bubble with this fact. If you believe life exists once the sperm meets the egg then most forms of birth control is an abortion. Birth control cannot keep the egg from being fertilized. The only thing birth control does is block the egg from implanting. I hate to tell anyone that but unless it is keeping you from ovulating, then the egg is still being fertilized. I'm not trying to ne rude, it just annoys me that that fact is left out.

I am pro life to,

I am having my mirena removed due to the fact that it harms the fertilized egg by stopping it from implanting - thus killing the potential life!! Even though I do not want children, I cannot rest knowing I am possibly aborting a baby. I need to find out - are there any birth-control methods that stop the egg from being fertilized besides sterilization and condoms???



egg+sperm=baby

egg+sperm=baby not implanting in the wall = death ...



This has stressed me out completely!!!!!

i had it was great for over a year in a half.. but then had 2 periods back to back and wasn't into the bleeding thing so i figured i'd get it removed to have predictable periods if i was going to bleed. on the lowest dose pill right now .. haven't had issues switching, i'd recommend implanon

I would have to say DO NOT get the implanon implant.
I've had it twice and the first time was a dream, just lovely, and recommended it to everyone. Barely a mark where it went in and an invisible scar where I got it out.
The second one I bled every single day for a year, left a tiny raised pink scar where it went in, and it broke and migrated in my arm and was found in surgery to have half in my upper arm near my elbow and half up near my shoulder blade. It left a horrific and embarassing scar from the removal surgery, and it had torn through muscle and left my arm less functional for at least 6 months after the surgery (and the month before, prompting removal).

I know a lot of girls with similar stories. Probably almost 2 horror stories for every dream story. I wouldnt feel right not warning you.

This is a decision 4 u 2 take n with consultations with ur gynea doc.bt I really avoid medications cause they all ve side effects.

I have the implanon. And I've never had any problems with it. When I do bleed it's only for a few days and its very light. I havent went any at all this week. I cant say I've gained any weight but I havent lost any either and I've been dieting. I think it treats everyone differently. Not everyone bleeds all the time on it. It's just something you will have to try and see if you like it I guess lol

Never tired it bt I knw of many that had problams with it, y nt try knwing ur circle n nt having sex during ur ovulation period.

i have the implant but hopefully having it taken out on monday! i have gained so much weight i bled for 16 weeks!! im having to take the pill now to control my bleeds, it is just awful! i would not recommend it! x

i went on this before my first son and i was fine. when i went back on it afterwards i was a total cow all the time i was so stressy and hormonal!
they do say it effects women differently, so all i can suggest is give it a try really, if it doesnt work for you have it taken out x good luck

But if you get pregnant on Mirena it destroys the baby--- for those who are pro life-- thats not the best choice. they dont put that in their brochure-- my doc was the one who told me that. I was WANTING that.... but there are risks to every bc and lots of them MAY cause weight gain acne and cysts.... its just part of the hormonal changes



And it breaking and having to have surgry to remove it is a rare occurance. I dont know-- every one weighs things differently-- but i guess its trial and error, right?! You never know what is going to affect you and what wont.

I have had the mirena twice now. The first time everything was great for the first 10 months then I just started bleeding. I was on my period for about 6 months, it was awful., I finally took it out and tried other types of birthcontrol. And Im sorry I hate birthcontrol that causes weight gain, lol.  Again in September had mirena put back in for a second try. Everything seemed out, except my uterus started getting tender and I spotted at lot. The during intercourse (insert laugh here) I got the worst pain in the world, almost as bad as contractions. I couldnt walk or talk for almost 2 hours I went to the emergency room, I was afraid it had perfereted the uterine wall. Luckily it hadnt, but I had gotten an infection, more then likely from insertion of the mirena, but because it was in the uterus it was difficult to detect before it got really bad. I ended up on 3 antibiotics and vicodin. Then just to be sure it was taken care of I had to do another round on anitbiotics. 

My Best suggestion, once you get it wait at least 2 weeks to have intercourse, my doc said it gave the mirena the best chance to settel properly. And be prepared, it will not be comfy getting it implanted be sure to take some ibprofin afterwards it really helped me. And no vigirous activity. I hope it works better for you then it did for me. My sis-in-law and my best friend have one and love it.

Hi, I have this its due out this june and ive never had a problem with it, never had any bleedin or anythin. it is really good and does work.
