We started him on food about a week ago, and he took to it so well.

He is on Aptimil Hungry milk, which is a little thicker than other milks, and is aparently meant to delay weaning?! But after every feed we found him crying for more, and wasnt satisfied, so we started him on food, and he loves it!! He is having a veg lunch for his mid-day feed, and a meaty dinner in the afternoon (e.g. Cow & Gate sweet potato and Cow & Gate Grandpas sunday lunch) He usually feeds every 4 hours, has 5 lots of milk a day (8oz of water to 7scoops, as he doesnt like drinking water, so we up the water in the feed - and i know a lot of people will protest against it.) and his last feed at night he has a little baby rice in to thicken it up so he sleeps through the night. I don't know whether i should start him on some breakfast, as i think it may be moving way too fast, though he had a banana today and he loved it, eating and chatting away like there was no tomorrow. He just loves his mushed up fruit and veg - scoffs the lot quite happily now! He does know when hes full, as he spits it out usually, and hes not sick after his meals.

I don't really know where this is going... but is 16lb a normal weight?? And what do i do when hes 6 months and need to cut out the amount of milk? Do i replace it with a yogurt? AAAHH its all pretty new to me as its my first child.

Thank you so much for your help.

My little guy is 16 pounds and he turns 3 month on the 16th of april....so he is fine! ( but now im concerned that my guy may be too big) when he is 6 months he will be eating more solids and need less milk.. you can start giving him water....he may not prefer but he has to learn to drink something else....A pediatric nurse suggested that we give him water in a bottle and his milk in a sippy when we get to that age. This will make it easier to switch him to sippy cups and he will drink more water.

My little boy is almost 7 months, but I believe he is smaller than average. He weighed 15lbs at his 6 month checkup, so I'm assuming he might be closer to 16lbs now. Anyway, one of my friends has a 4 month old & he weighed like 16lbs 8oz at his 4 month checkup. So, it seems to me that your baby is right on track. :) My son doesn't really take to solid foods very well, but we are working on it! Good luck with everything. I know this first time mom stuff can get confusing! Trust me, I know!

Well, my daughter was 6 lbs 8 ozs at birth, weighed 8 lbs at 4 months. She is now 10 months and only weighs 14 lbs. Doctor of course has her being weighed every 6 weeks and she is not gaining weight but me and my hubby are small so she is bound to be small. She eats, is healthy, has always eaten formula (no breast milk) and sleeps 10-12 hrs a night! i dont worry about her weight!

I always say bigger is better that way if they get sick by some chance they have some to loose. He certainly has a healthy appatite, start him on breakfast for sure it wont hurt him at all. I would also consider putting the cereal in all his bottles not just the night one i did this with my little girl from 4 weeks of age. If he is asking for food then i say feed him, particularly if he knows when to stop. Its not that unusual for 4 months old babies to be eating 3 meals a day and still have 4 or 5 bottles. As for weening off formula the age for that is usually 12 months at the earliest as they need to nutrients in the formula to help their immune systems. Cows milk is a heavier milk but you can still also add cereal to it as well so dont worry to much about him still needing it when you ween him. Be happy with the fact he is a very healthy and happy looking boy dont worry about what the books say all babies are different and a book cant brand them all the same. I know what its like to have one the other way, my little girl has always been content to not eat solids or her bottles. She is now 4 years and 4 months weighs approx 36 pounds and is 100cms tall so tiny. Good luck

I dont think that is an alarming weight but it definitely can't hurt to consult his ped. about his diet. My doctor told me that since my bf & I are both short & slim our daughter is more likely to be as well (obviously), so try not to worry so much if your baby is a lil bigger than some im sure his ped. wouldn't let him become unhealthy. You never know he might just be getting ready for a growth spurt ;)

Boys tend to be bigger than girls my second daughter was 16lbs at 8mths and 22bls 5oz at 15mths.I have heard of babies being 16lbs at 3-4mths and perfectly fine it also depends what weight the were born at as it follows from there on the growth chart your doctors would be following.Your son looks fine to me in the profile pic very happy and healthy.:-)

my son is 6 months, but at his four month check up he was 16lbs 4ozs...i had him on cereal twice a day at that point and shortly after that we started the veggies and fruit....i know i asked my dr about the weaning of milk and she said he will do it himself on his own time and it will be around the time he's eating pretty much everything. he's still having his 4 7ozs bottles in a day along with his meals so he isn't yet cutting himself back. you can go on and look up what is a normal amount of milk for them to be drinking at each age on this site http://www.babycenter.ca/baby/formula/ho...
good luck

Hey, thats great, just wanted reassurance, only 2lbs off, im sure he'll get that off when he starts crawling, surely?

I was going to start him on porridge in the mornings now and then, but i think i'll wait a couple of weeks or so, just to make sure he doesnt turn bedbound before hes 1! haha! :)

Thank you for your help!!

Hi, I just looked on a site and tried to get some info but I'm not too sure whether it's correct or not so you should speak with your child's pediatrician. It said the avg weight for a baby at 4 mos is 14lbs so your child is not far from that and regardless, the important thing is, he's healthy. I've never heard of replacing their amount of milk with yogurt, in fact, I don't believe you can start them on yogurt, however, doctors may say different. He should start solids by 4-6mos:

1. Semi-liquid cereals

2. Strained or mashed fruits and vegetables

3. Finely chopped table foods, including meat and other protein sources.
