Is it bad to let my 2 month old baby sleep through the night?

My daughter is almost 2 months old, and she sleeps through the night (7-9 hours depending) at least 2-3 nights a week. I love it, but some people are telling me I'm crazy to let her sleep through the night. They say that I should be waking her up to feed her, even though she usually ends up a rather large feeding before bed, and also as soon as she wakes up. I don't feel like it's a bad idea, but some people seem to think that she'll end up malnourished if she doesn't have that 3 am feed. Am I crazy to let her sleep through the night?

NO!! I have 3 kids 3yrs, 2yrs, and 8 months old. They started sleeping through the night at 9weeks, 8 weeks, and 7 weeks old. If you want a GREAT book that teaches you how to get your baby on a schedule and sleeping through the night by 8-9 weeks old get "On becoming baby wise" it is the best book I have read on baby stuff. All three of my children are healthy and happy! The only time that I might wake my baby to eat would be if she sleeps too much during the day b/c I want her/him to learn the difference between day and night and sleep all night long. I recommend this book to every mom I know, and the ones that have read and applied it have all thanked me b/c their baby too now sleeps through the night!

My daughter slept through the night from the time we brought her home from the hospital. I asked her pediatrician about it and she said that was fabulous and to let her sleep. She said to make sure I feed her right before bed and AS SOON as I get up. Starting god sleep habits is so important in its own way.

There is nothing wrong w/ letting your baby sleep through the night. You need to count that as a blessing b/c alot of moms are not fortunate. The one grand rule that needs to be obeyed is when baby is sleep, mom should sleep. How would you like someone waking you up to shove food in your mouth. If you wouldn't appreciate it, I'm sure your child wouldn't. Those who told you were crazy not to wake your baby up in the middle of the night, there crazy and haters b/c there children didn't or doesn't give them that luxury, lol

i think it is fine!!! my oldest slept through the night from the day she was born...they hospital tried to get me to wake her up every few hours to eat...but i learned by experience if they want to eat they will wake up.... sleeping all night at any age is okay as long as they are happy and it doesnt bother you to get a full night's sleep :P

No your not crazy at all... my daughter is almost 4 months old and she has slept through the night since ive had her home from the hospital, she eats big b4 bed and as soon as she gets up. You gotta do whatever works for you and your baby. if it would make you feel better just ask your doctor. go with what you feel, if you think its ok then stick with it.

it good that she already has a sleep pattern that way you won't have to go thru that stage were she has her days and nights mixed up

You NEVER wake a sleeping baby. If she is sleeping through the night count your blessings and let her sleep. If she is hungry she will wake up and let you know. My son didn't sleep through the night until he was 2 years old, I'm sooo jealous!

No not at all, you are lucky just like I was. My daughter slept from 8-6.30 from 6 weeks old and has slept thru every nyt since then and still does now even tho she is teething. Just enjoy it as some people aren't as lucky as I am. I found that she was feeding 6 oz every 3 hours wen she started sleeping thru so she certainly had enough milk to sleep on and if your daughter was too hungry, for sure she would wake up =)

Absolutely not Nikka! My 12 week old sleeps through and has for a few weeks now. Its bliss! She also has a really big feed right before bed and then another huge feed in the morning. She is packing on the weight and is perfectly happy and healthy. My first child also slept through from an early age. We are lucky to have bubs that sleep through if you ask me! No sleep deprivation here!

It is absolutely okay!! My daughter started this at two months also and her doctor said to enjoy it that it meant she was developing quicker that most. Would you want someone waking you up from a peaceful sleep just to eat. If your daughter was hungry she would wake and let you know :)

It seems to me like those people are crazy for telling you that, your baby will wake up if she needs to be fed, enjoy all of the sleep when you can, my daughter is nearly ten months old and she still wakes up during the night.

I dont see that her sleeping through is wrong. my son sleep day and night for almost 20 hours only waking for feed. he was very small and needed his sleep to help him grow. your daughter should be fine, she will wake up if she needed feeding.

Hope this helps xx

I don't see anything wrong with it. My son started to sleep through the night fully when he was 2 1/2 months old and he would sleep 8-12 hours a night, but rarely naps in the day. I think that if they are still growing just fine, then let them. My doctor told me it was fine and to enjoy it! We usually use a size up diaper at night to get him through without leaks and he sleeps perfectly.

My son has been sleeping through the night since I brought him home. They wake when the are hunhgry, they wake when they sleep enough. If you really worry about her being malnurished I'd wake her up ahlf through and feed her. But mine turned out just fine has a perfect weight and eats like a little piggy. :) Consider yourself lucky because every mom wishes theirs would sleep the whole night...

Never wake a sleeping baby. Her sleep is natural when she's hungry she'll wake up.

In the meantime you get some shut eye. Enjoy that sleep.

Let the baby sleep, my 3 year old when he came home from the hospital was sleeping through the night from day one, it concerned me and when I called the pediatrician he told me leave that baby alone don't you dare wake him up. He said let him sleep if he will, he also said if he was hungry he would wake up and let me know so that is what I done, he got a good bottle before he went to sleep and as soon as he woke up. Don't worry your daughter is fine, enjoy it.

My daughter was sleeping through the night at a week old! Shes far from malnourished, shes a happy healthy toddler now! She was also formula fed so that probably had a bit to do with it (kept her fuller for longer). My son didnt start sleeping through the night until 5 months or so, after he self weaned and went on formula. Other than that he was up on his own every 4 hours like clock work. In my opinion youre crazy to wake a sleeping baby.

I'm actually going through the same exact thing with my 2 month old and I'll tell you what my mother (a mother of 3) told me: "Your baby will never starve herself. (I have a daughter too) When she's hungry, she will let you know." If your baby doesn't have any issues eating during the day and she eats to her heart's content at night, enjoy the blessing of her sleeping through the night.

"let sleeping babies lie!" lol-I am not fortunate enough to have my little guy sleep through the night, in fact he is up most of it-and he is 10 weeks old.............but I agree with the other moms, if she is hungry she will wake, are you bottle feeding or nursing...formula tends to last babies longer than the breastmilk does ( I nurse and co-sleep so i am sure that contributes to my little guy being up so much...)

If it feels wrong to you, change it, but if you are ok with her sleeping that long, then by all means ENJOY!!! :)

No you are not. Never wake a sleeping baby. I have 3 children, i never woke them up for a feed and they were always fine listen to yourself not other people and if you are happy with it do it. Is your baby happy? if yes well then you are doing a good job and stick to it. Always remember that they can stop sleeping through the night at anytime so just enjoy it for now.

My mother-in-law used to tell me I needed to wake my son up for feedings all the time, I never listened to her and my son is 21mos old and healthy as a horse. Let her sleep and enjoy the time that you get. If she gets hungry she will wake up and let you know. Never wake a sleeping baby, because if you do you will change her habits and schedule and it will be hard to get her back in track.
