Is it bad to let my 2 month old baby sleep through the night?

My daughter is almost 2 months old, and she sleeps through the night (7-9 hours depending) at least 2-3 nights a week. I love it, but some people are telling me I'm crazy to let her sleep through the night. They say that I should be waking her up to feed her, even though she usually ends up a rather large feeding before bed, and also as soon as she wakes up. I don't feel like it's a bad idea, but some people seem to think that she'll end up malnourished if she doesn't have that 3 am feed. Am I crazy to let her sleep through the night?

my son has always slept through the night, but at 2 months i think i was still waking him up to eat....sometimes he would take it and others he would not...its how your child feels, the most important thing is to keep her comfortable and healthy....nothing will happen to her as far as malnutrition as long as she's still eating what she needs to during the day

When i was 6 weeks i started sleeping through the night. my mom never woke me to feed me. so if she wants to sleep let her sleep. it's not going to hurt her.

Not at all. If your baby is hungry, she will wake up to feed at 3 am. But as long as she is growing properly and her brain is developing as it should, then there is really no need to worry.

My baby was so big at his two week appointment that my doctor said to not wake him to feed and let him wake me....at 6 weeks he was sleeping through the night.

I have actually read in a bunch of parenting books and heard from my doctor that it is pretty normal for at two months for your baby to sleep through the night. They grow in their sleep and will adjust their daytime sleep and eat cycle accordingly.

I will tell you what the doctors told me...Let a sleeping baby sleep! If your daughter is sleeping through the night, count your blessings and enjoy it! Both my girls sleep for well over 9 hours and we do fine! Good Luck!

your routine question, nikka, if your girl is doing well, i dont see the harm in trying it,but just remember that growth spurts will occur pretty often and it may not work out more until shes a few months older, my boys slept through at 4 mos, and they were over 13 lbs which i've heard and learned is a good weight that they can actually go through the night

I say if ur lucky enough to have her sleep through the night then lap it up! I'm 27 yrs old and have 3 kids 9,8,7 yrs old and one on the way. My 8 and 7 yr olds both slep through the night from they day I had them home from the hospital. The baby nurse assured me that this was completely fine and to take full advantage of it, so I did. I had very rested and happy babies :)

The main advice that my mother gave me was to NOT wake a baby during the night. My parents did with my sister and she ended up being a very fussy baby (maybe not because of that but still!) Your daughter will tell you when she is hungry, its all she cares about right now. If she starts falling below her curve then think about waking her. but not until then. Enjoy your rest, you need it too!

NO, my son was the same way. From day 1 he slept thru the night. When I would think about waking him up I started to wonder, Why wake a child up? If they are hungary won't they let us know? I mean don't go like 12 to 14 hours of no food. That would be wrong, but if they sleep why wake them? Ask those that tell you it's not right why that is, and why does THEIR parenting techniques MUST be used by other's. My mom let Both my brother and I sleep thru the night when we started and Now Im 24 with a hansome 4 year old.

They eat when they are hungry, cry when something is wrong, and smile when they are farting...lol As long as you listen to her wants and needs everything will be fine!!

i think you should wake her and feed her, at least try, and if she dont take it you know shes not hungry, but at 2 mts old she needs the nutrition, I know it feels good to sleep all night but she needs to eat to be healthy, even if you make her a smaller bottle it wont hurt to try! good luck!

Let your baby sleep!!! When they're hungry, they'll let you know. My son was sleeping at least 5-7 hours every night starting at 3 weeks old and I just let him sleep until he decided he was hungry and it was time to wake up. Now he's a happy, healthy 16 month old.

No! Girl, my daughter did the same thing and the doctors told me to wake her up to feed her etc. However, you are messing up her sleeping cycle if you do that. Trust me, when she is hungry, she will let you know by waking up and crying for a bottle. You and I were very fortunate to have babies sleep through the night as soon as they came out of the womb! My daughter slept instantly through the night. Do not drive yourself crazy by listening to other people, if you know she is alright and you feed her, care for her, make her feel comfortable, trust me, SHE IS IN GREAT HANDS AND YOU ARE DOING A WONDERFUL JOB. Also some people can just be jealous that you have such a luxury. Let'em know to not hate but apprieciate. =D

No not at all! Lap it up! That's fantastic. My son's doctor told us when he was about 4 months that if a baby sleeps through the night you don't have to wake them up to feed them. If they are hungry they will let you know. It will not hurt them. Just be prepared when they wake up they might not be in the best of moods in the morning until they have a full belly. Wow, that's fantastic. My son didn't really start sleeping through the night until about 8 months old. Enjoy it while it lasts!

My daughter just turned two months old...and she sleeps through the night as well. I haven't seen a problem with it so far. She has a bottle right before bed and then as soon as she wakes up. From what I was told by a Dr. it is fine as long as the baby is gaining weight. She will wake up if she is hungry. Let her sleep...Being a new mommy you need your sleep when you can get it so take advantage of it...

My 7 week old daughter just started to sleep through the night a few times a week. At first it scared me and I did wake her after 5 hours, the the second time she went 8 hours then I also woke her, because I was told to never let her go past 6 hoursm but then when I taked to my friends they told me to let her sleep and she will let you know when she needs to be feed. So I would go with that.

Heck no! If she's hungry honey, she is going to wake up and let you know! The only thing I would really be concerned about is her diaper. Huggies actually has a night time diaper available, so if her diaper is getting to full try those. I always went ahead and put diaper rash cream on my little ones before bed. That way they are kind of protected during the night.

These were my thoughts exactly! She wakes up from her naps during the day to tell me she's hungry so why wouldn't she at night? Besides who wants to wake up at 3 am when they don't have to?

I have another question though to add to this. I've noticed that she sleeps through the night when she's awake for a good portion of the day or even if she sleeps most of the morning and afternoon and is up most of the evening. Is it wrong for me to try and keep her up, in order to have her sleep through the night? If she gets too fussy, or just wont wake up, I'll let her sleep, but I've tried keeping her up if she's willing and she always sleep through the night those days. I think that it's good to get her into the routine, but I wonder if it's wrong to keep her up. Is it too early to start with routines like that?

I think you are good to go. If she is hungry or excessivelly wet, she will wake up. Babies grow while they sleep, so I think she is fine. 3 of my 4 kids slept through the night from day 1. I LOVED it! lol My first one was every 2 hours on the dot. The other 3 would go down about 10 or 11, and not wake up til my hubby's alarm clock went off at 6. I think you should go with what you are feeling...Is she doing ok? Or do YOU think you should wake her up? If you still have doubts, make her an appt for a check up with the Ped and ask them.

I let mine sleep too. She is also 2 months old. As long as she's eating well during the day and gaining weight like her doctor would like her to, it's ok. Unless her doctor says not to let her sleep, it should be fine.

My daughter was an itty bitty preemie when she was born and the doctors told me to wake her up and feed her every 3 hours. I did it for a couple of nights when she came out of the NICU but we both ended up so exhausted and she seemed to expend more energy which meant she burnt up more of the calories they were trying to get to stay on her little body that I decided to let her sleep through the night. She gained weight without having to wake her up and she is healthy happy completely average weight 3 year old. Let that sleeping baby lie. Use your mommy instincts they will eat when they are hungry. Good Luck!

I don't see anything wrong with it. My son is almsot 7 weeks and he is sleeping throught he night. He too has a pretty decent meal before bedtime and one when he wakes up in the morning. I don't think they will end up in any way malnurished if they sleep through. As long as they have decent feedings throughout the day and nice meal at bedtime, I don't see anything wrong with it.

there is nothing wrong with the baby sleeping! My youngest is 1 year 6 months old now, and She has been sleeping threw the night since almost the day I brought her home. You WANT the baby to sleep threw the night.. With my First daughter, I did what everyone told me brestfed, woke up at least 15 times a night to check on her , and she still needs me to put her to sleep she will be 3 in Janurary. so the sooner you can get her to sleep and to go to sleep on her own, the better. =) Just go with your gut. and things will work out fine. =) and you will get rest too!

I think youd have to be crazy to wake a sleeping baby - do you know how many women are wishing their kids were doing what yours is!?! If she isnt waking for a feed then its because she doesnt need one - if she is taking regular feeds throughout the daythen she will not be malnourished - thats codswollop (I finally get to use that word!). Enjoy your sleep lucky lady :)
