I definitely don't think it's because you're overprotective or cuddling him too much. Babies don't seem to respond to that kind of thing until they're much older (I think someone told me around 18-24 months) and most kids will let you know when they've had too much affection!

My lil boy is pretty sensitive and sometimes he'll cry with his dad or grammas but will be fine with me. But I think your son may have a lingering health issue from his past infection or maybe something new. It's definitely worth taking him to the doctor. And even if the doctor says he's perfectly healthy it could just be a phase he grows out of.
Good luck!

When you say 'cry all the time' is it really steady? Does he literally cry all day or is it for short bursts? Does he cry for multiple hours a day? My son cried a ton and was whiny and uncomfortable until he was about 4 months old. He was finally diagnosed with a bladder infection and after the anti-biotics he is a much happier baby. He used to cry for about 2 hour stretches and very little would calm him down. The doctor said that it wasn't technically 'colic' but sorta similar. Of course, after he had blood in his pee they took another look!! My brother had undiagnosed ear infections for months and was crying constantly too, so it could be number of things.

Possibly teething too...if this is a new trend.

But if it seems like he is crying for hours and isn't sleeping well and is generally fussy it might be worth it to take him to the doctor. It never hurts to take your baby for a checkup.

Even if it isn't a medical problem it doesn't mean you're a bad mother!! Some babies are just very sensitive to everything around them or are just difficult. I'm sure you're doing your best and you should congratulate yourself on making it 8 months with a hard baby!
