Is it ok to freeze jars of baby food?

Can you freeze the little jars of baby food?
When they first start out trying food, they only have about a tablespoon (20grams) each time you try them feed them.
The doctor has said try once a day (so 20 grams a day) and jars are 110 grams. You can keep it in the fridge for 48 hours after the jar is opened, so rather than waste half a jar, can it be frozen. I was thinking of packaging them up in to little portions, and just pulling one out when needed. Im guessing you can because you can freeze things like apple pies etc, but im just not sure and i didnt think to ask the doctor.

Thanks Angela. That's a very handy website. I'll have to go out and buy some more fruit and vegies to make all these, then I'll set aside a day for cooking them all up.

Oh and it is also a great way for measuring... 1 cube = approx. 1oz! Hope this helps!

I think you could definitely freeze the baby food as long as you use the ice cube tray method. I make all of my LO's food myself and I make up huge batches. I freeze everything in ice cube trays covered in plastic wrap and foil, then after approx. 1 day I remove the frozen cubes and store them in labeled ziplock bags. They stay good for approx. 3 months this way.

Honestly I think that you can freeze the food, just not in the jars, but if you have been feeding your baby directly from the jar you shouldn't freeze it. Your baby’s saliva will cause bacteria to grow in the jar and it could make your child sick later. Have you thought about trying to make your own baby food? When my kids first started eating solids I made their own food, that way I was able to control how much I pulled out for them to eat. You can find recipes online and it’s actually easier than you might think. But if you don't have the time to make baby food at home, I would suggest buy some ice trays, putting the baby food in the ices tray, each cube is an ounce; when the tray is full cover it with plastic wrap, and freeze that way. When frozen just place the cubes in a Ziploc bag and label them. I know home made baby foods are good frozen this way for 8 months, but I am not sure how long the jar baby food would be good this way.
