I have a 3yr old son and an 11 month old daughter. They do not have a common sleep time except at night. This means if I want to have a shower I have to wait until after 8pm at night or I have to do it when someone is awake.

So my question is...

Is it ok to leave my son to play in his room (the room next to the bathroom) and leave the door open to have a shower?

In the past I have simply had a shower with him but giving the kids a bath is my husbands special job with them (which I assigned him after our osn was born so he'd help out) and he gets upset if I do that, and my son doesn't want to have 2 showers/baths a day.

If I leave the door open I can hear anything as loud as the phone ringing, so I should beable to hear him if he needs me.

What should I do? This last week I have only had 1 shower (on the weekend when my husband was home).

Yes I have a 2 year old ad a 10 month old and often just let them play in the bathroom while I shower. Sometimes they just walk off and play in the dining room or my room but it only takes me like 10 minutes to shower.

Definitely! Give yourself a break to clean up and don't stress over it. I was a preschool teacher and a nanny and the general rule that I was told is that at age 3, as long as you can hear the child, that is enough. I have two girls, a 3.5 year old and a 9 month old and I shower daily in the morning. My husband travels nearly every week, so my girls and I are on our own! Generally, I shower around 10 am, after my girls are fed. I turn on a cartoon for my oldest and either put my baby down for a nap or put her in the pack n play. Her pack n play is in our master bedroom and is full of toys! We also have an alarm system in our home, so I make sure to keep it on in the morning. This way, if my oldest were to ever be tempted to escape, the entire neighborhood would know it! When she was a little bit younger, I would simply close the baby gate at the top of our stairs and close all of the bedroom doors, except for mine (she couldn't reach the door knobs or couldn't turn them hard enough to open). This way, she only had access to my room/bathroom or the loft upstairs, which we converted to a play area.

Of course! I have 3 girls all under 5 and I've been showering alone since my oldest was a few months old. Tell him what you're doing and what you expect of him while you're in the shower. Good luck!

I have a 22 month old and a 10 month old I usually let them play in the bathroom while I shower but I've also let my son play in his room since it's baby proofed. Mine never get into trouble I'd think your son is old enough to play unsupervised in a safe environment for 5-10 minutes while you get a shower.

I have a 16 month old and her room is child proof and when I shower I put a baby gate at her door so I can leave her door open while I shower. I think as long as he is in a safe place and away from your LO it should be fine.
