it is ok to let them cry it helps in lung development and they need to learn how to put themselves to sleep i made the mistake of holding my oldest til he went to sleep and well did i pay for it when he got a lil bigger lets just say he is 6 now and still wants to sleep in the same room or bed even with me or his grandma my 4 yr old on the other hand she wasnt rocked or held til she fell asleep and well she is the easiest child to get to sleep ever!

Karlie- are you asking about letting your baby cry herself to sleep or letting her cry when you cant seem to comfort her and you need a break? It seems like most people are taking this question to mean cry to sleep.

Personally I don't like to leave my baby to cry himself to sleep. All babies cry for a reason, wether it's colic or just wanting love. You can't spoil your baby with love! If your baby continuously cries, pick her up and comfort her. She'll grow out of it when she's ready.
I've been warned by countless people....."Don't spoil your baby, you'll never get him to sleep alone!"......I don't care, as long as my baby feels secure and loved, I'm happy.
But for goodness sake how would you like to be left alone, screaming for someone and no one comes!!!

I think so, although its much easier said than done. I always tell myself im going to let her cry, but i always pick her up lol. I know that both of my brothers let their kids cry themselves to sleep. and now their kids dont fight naps, they just go to sleep. crying wont hurt your baby at all. just keep tryingnew things and eventually youll find a soothing technique that will work for you and your baby. good luck!

Sometimes you ust have to. Every now and then my daughter will get really cranky and after hours of trying everything I can think of, I just have to put her down and take a few minutes for myself. (If someone else had been around I would have them take her) If you are getting to the point wher you cant take anymore put baby down somewhere safe and comfy and take a 10 minute break. You'll feel better and you'll be better able to make baby feel better.

You have to TEACH her how to fall asleep on her own. That is a talent that she was not born with.....If you rock her to sleep each time, she will learn that, that is how she falls asleep. Let her cry it out, and she will than learn how to fall asleep on her own.
Good luck:)

Ive rarely had to rock my daughter to sleep - but on the occassions where I have tried rocking and it hasnt worked I HAD to walk away because I knew I was reaching breaking point and needed time to calm down before dealing with her again. If you are doing this regularly then I would say try finding another way to calm her and teach her to go down without such an effort.

Yes. And you actually shouldn't be rocking your child for an hour. They need to learn how to get to sleep on their own. I only rock my daughter when she's sick. Trust me, it's best in the long run.
