I'm not even 1cm dialated. And I'm really worried. What are ways that will help the dialation process. I don't have a partner, so sex is out of the question. I've been excercising everyday, I've been cleaning house... please help.

Deep tissue massage. I was 2 days overdue with my daughter and I want to a massage therapist telling her I want to go into labor, so she gave me a deep tissue massage focusing on my hips and ankles. I had her in less than 15 hours and I too was 1cm dilated prior to my massage! Good luck and congrats

Don't worry, I don't think it is that unusual. I know that I wasn't dialated at all on my 40wk 3day appointment, but my water broke two days later, and then I dialated no problem! I think that the walking is good, and also I've heard eating fresh pineapple and spicy foods. But don't work yourself too hard - at this point you need to be resting up for labor. It will be here soon enough!

its actually the sperm is what makes you dialate i forgot what it is that they have but it some kind of like chemical that helps enduce labour. .but yeah my first was 2 weeks late. ..don't worry they wont stay in there forever lol i know its already been forever but. . and i don't believe in due date anyways, when they give me the date i just think okay the beggining of may (or which ever month) . . i don't know about taking stuff to bring on labour some people do, i don't like to do that. .but good luck

Hi, I have 4 boy born between 2003-2007. My first pregnancy I tried everything and nothing worked, once I relized nothing would work and I'd probably be pregnant FOREVER. The labour started that night or actually 2am.
One thing you can try is lying down on your back and slowly rock on to one side then the other I did that for the other 3 and during labour too.
Don't forgewt you can also talk to your dr. abt. getting induced, it is not as bad as everyone says. I was on my own for my 4 labour and I will tell you that it was comforting knowing I had people who knew what to do and it was my 4th every prgnancy is different, just as every baby is different.

if ur 1cm dilated and it doesnt get any better just keep doing what eveyone has said but then if uve been having contractions for over 48 hours and ur still only 1cm dilated they may be able to give u oxytocin to induce ur labour but just keep ringing the hospital and ask them what to do.

I agree with Liza! My son is now 6 but I started having contractions about 4 days before my due date. I hadn't been able to at all the night before and was only dilated to 1 cm. and my doctor sent me home with some Tylenol w/ Codene so I could get at least a few hours of sleep and then told me to walk and walk and walk some more. I was huge by my ninth month and so walking didn't appeal to me but my son's dad suggested we go for a walk around the local creek that has several walking trails. We took about a 45 minute walk, going up hills, down hills, etc. and that night after many more painful contractions I was admitted to the hospital. You may hit a certain point where you won't dilate anymore until your water breaks. The hospital had to break mine for me and then I went for 6 to 10 in about a half hour. Good luck and congratulations!

Walk, walk and walk. My dr once explained it to me as, the baby's head is like a hammer, when you walk, the hammer hits your cervix & speeds up the dilation process.
Good luck!

im not exactly looking for contractions. All though I know they come, I'm looking for help to open the cervix.

I wouldn't stress out about it too much. THe baby will come when it is ready. Have you tried talking to your doctor or midwife about it? If you haven't already, you could try do ing squats, stair lunging, swinging, jumping on the trampoline. All of those will help the baby drop and help you to open up. Also, some people don't really start dialating until they start labor. have you had ANY contractions yet? There are natural things that you can do to help induce labor. Exercise of course, being one of them. Acupuncture can also help too. There are natural things you can intake to help things move along, but I would talk to your health care professional to see if any of them are a good idea for you. good luck.

I tried exercise too. I didn't have anything that worked! I also tried sex (it's okay that you can't, it's very uncomfortable and doesn't work) and castor oil (DON'T DO IT!!) It was so painful and gross! What I suggest is to do things to make yourself feel better and more relaxed. Go swimming (amazing!) and get a massage. Also, don't worry, most first babies don't come until after the due date.
